Strategy to obtain US Amex

I don't have any personal experience. Thought GT implied you were moving to the US so might just have to wait the time..

Do you have to show proof, or just nominate an address? If they're not going to actually send mail to it, what's to stop you nominating almost any residential street address..

If they are going to ask for proof but not send any mail, and you don't have any friends whose address you could borrow, I think your best bet is to make a 30 day reservation at any US hotel which offers free cancellation with the booking starting in a couple of days. Cancel the booking immediately but wait a day or two (until your reservation starts) then send the reservation confirmation to Cap1 as "proof".
Thinking that also, just put in an address for some cheap house for sale in middle America that the post wouldn't go to anyway.

Frustrating stuff. Opened an Amex Aspire through GT, but they need proof of address. Opened up a Capital One account, but Amex says I need to wait 30 days for my Capital One address to appear on my credit file.
So you have a physical US address not a mail forwarder?

Yes, I'm fortunate to have a relative that can accept mail on my behalf. My frustration was more the time it takes to report new addresses to one's credit profile and therefore get your address verified by Amex. I have seen other people be given alternative options such as upload documents, but I haven't managed to get that from the Amex representatives I've spoken to.

Capital One just sent me a letter advising that my PostScanMail address has been flagged as an agency for receiving commercial mail and I need to update my physical address or they will close my account. Any tips and what I can do to navigate this issue, I would very much like to keep my checking account open. The did say "Please note that your mailing address will remain the same"

Use a virtual mail box service. This is sent to a physical address, then office scans letter & destroys hard copy. That’s what people do to open up say a business or personal trading account in states that have no income taxes.

PostScanMail is a virtual mail box? Or is there something else?

Is there a fee to use Revolut? I was comparing it with Wise. I’m getting a slightly lower fee as compared to Wise, however rate seemed to always be slightly worse.

I did notice others above have mentioned that Revolut’s had better rates for them? Unfortunately I haven’t noticed that.

Can’t you use your oz address as a permanent adddress ?

I get about a 0.3% fee up to a maximum of $8 (which seems to align with this document: https://assets.revolut.com/terms_and_conditions/pdf/[FINAL] AU - Pricing Changes - External Pricing Sheet .pdf) to send money internationally via Revolut. It is a little cheaper than Wise with roughly the same exchange rate.

I haven't been able to work out how to get it for free as some people seem to have gotten, at least in the past.
Thanks, thought so too. I couldn’t figure it getting it down to no fee, but yes fee wise is slightly cheaper than Wise.

Hey everyone,

I recently tried to apply for a Hilton card and they asked me to verify my address when I did they did notice it was a shipping forwarder.

What are my next steps?

Is there some more information about this? Who was the forwarder? Was the application by GT? Was it on-line or by phone? Was there something that seemed to prompt an address verification?

If you don’t have a friend or relative in the US, getting another address may be difficult.

Get a virtual mail box. Mail will get delivered to a physical address. Service provider will scan mail and you receive it digitally.

The OP was needing a physical address in USA. So using the virtual post address mentioned earlier. You will have a physical address in USA, whilst you can access those mail digitally.

Have heard people opening virtually mail box to open a business where states has no state income taxes or lower taxes. As mail gets sent to a physical address such as Florida, but they can be in another state such as Oregon.

The most popular workaround is to open a US checking account (eg Capital One) and use that to verify your US address to AMEX.
