Strategy to obtain US Amex

Has anyone had success in adding an Authorized User tradeline to their credit profile using an ITIN to boost their score?

I added 2 people with and without SSN/ITIN. They both get my repayment history, balance and credit limit reported to their files. It will help their score if your file is good. It can also lower their score a bit when the utilization is high.

Oh, so even without an ITIN or SSN, the AU showed on their credit report?

Yes, I added a friend without SSN/ITIN and no US card, he got a credit score after a while, half a year maybe. Can also see my limit/spend in his file as well.

Ah amazing.
Is there anyone here who's willing to help me by adding me as an AU to an old account?
Someone with a perfect payment history perhaps?
I'm mainly looking to add some age to my profile. Still waiting for my ITIN but I think Cap1 and Citi can just work with name, dob and address/phone for their AUs?
Willing to pay a fee as well for the favor.

Thanks

You don't get the age of account. Everything starts when you get the AU card (Amex).

Citi is fine with no ITIN/SSN. Not sure about Cap1 though.

Addition: Added Amex

Really? So what's the hype about tradelines adding the history of the account to the AU? I know AmEx reports it as a new account, whats the point of adding an AU if the payment history and age is not reported?

AUs will get credit limits which make their utilization low. Utilization accounts for up to 30% of FICO score. They will get a payment history starting from when they get the card as well. It's good for people who never have a card before or those who have a very low credit limit and/or low FICO score.

I added a friend who had an issue getting a credit card there. He got just one card with a $500 limit and 5xx Fico. Utilization was always high. Adding my $10K limit, and after some months, he ended up with 66X and it is easier for him to get more cards on his own now. His score dropped a bit when my utilization was high.

There are so many Americans who are struggling to get a credit card while their banks give a massive credit limit to us lol

If I were you, I wouldn't do it. Benefits aren't worth the risks.

1. You have no control over the utilization. If the primary card holder ends up with very high spend, your score will drop.

2. No guarantee that the primary cardholder will pay on time. It could affect you negatively.

3. While I heard banks like Chase reported the full payment history and the age of account to AUs file, Amex isn't one of them. This will lower your average age of account. I don't think many people here have non Amex accounts that are old. Even my Chase is only 1 and a half years old.

4. It may count against Chase 5/24 (stupid computer). However, you can ring their recon line to explain and get approved. Citi and Cap1 like to reject the app for too many new accounts these days. I'm not sure how they will treat AU cards and I have no experience with their recon line.

Capital One just sent me a letter advising that my PostScanMail address has been flagged as an agency for receiving commercial mail and I need to update my physical address or they will close my account. Any tips and what I can do to navigate this issue, I would very much like to keep my checking account open. The did say "Please note that your mailing address will remain the same"

Where is your address with PostScanMail? Which location?

6187 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach

Done all the hard work and have got the cap one account open and it works a charm and now in danger of closure.
hm, it's not showing as a CMRA in USPS, they probably have other tools to check or maybe too many people have been using that location
I'd suggest changing your physical address to a friend's or a relative's to prevent this from happening.
otherwise, you can perhaps change your location with PostScanMail to a non-flagged address by Cap1?

Yes at present only thing I can do is change to another PostScanMail address and continue to get the mail to the original address as they have advised. I don't have any relatives or friends to use an address.

Do you have to show proof, or just nominate an address? If they're not going to actually send mail to it, what's to stop you nominating almost any residential street address..

If they are going to ask for proof but not send any mail, and you don't have any friends whose address you could borrow, I think your best bet is to make a 30 day reservation at any US hotel which offers free cancellation with the booking starting in a couple of days. Cancel the booking immediately but wait a day or two (until your reservation starts) then send the reservation confirmation to Cap1 as "proof".

Frustrating stuff. Opened an Amex Aspire through GT, but they need proof of address. Opened up a Capital One account, but Amex says I need to wait 30 days for my Capital One address to appear on my credit file.
