Strategy to obtain US Amex

I am officially impressed! Amex showed up by DHL this morning, it wasn't expected until 4 July. All activated and ready to spend $2000 in 2.5 months now.

Headed over to the states in a couple of months, is it worth opening a Chase or BoA checking account if I wanted to get a Chase card in the long term?

Apologies, 2 questions on paying the card:
  1. Has anyone had success using Revolut to Citibank after NAB took over? I've tried the new SWIFT code from NAB but got rejected. Tried the routing number and got rejected as well. Live chat just keeps regurgitating these are our details etc so haven't been helpful.
  2. Trying to set up Wise like many here. Tried to transfer from Revolut and Wise said they don't accept payments from Revolut so got rejected as well.
I've found Revolut to have the best exchange rates so was keen to keep using it. How are people transferring USD to Wise or Citibank? Thanks.

Yes then you can transfer Aus bank - Wise - USA bank. Try to find one with no monthly fees. B of A used to be but now its $12 unless you deposit $250.

I never used Revolut but I have a USA bank account since the early 80's.
I set up my NAB debit card in Wise, then transfer to USA account and pay credit cards.

Which process did you use Tiki? and did you use MyUS forwarding?

First card sent to my friend in Orlando. After 10 days I called and asked for the card to be sent to Australia. I had to get verified by notary cam, then I called back and asked them to send it by DHL.

I believe hsbc us have made it easier for non residents to open an account remotely . Check out their home page .

Thank you for sharing ! I had a quick browse through the first two pages of the application. Looks pretty straightforward. I was looking at the AMEX Checking account too, since i have the Aspire.

Are you going to apply for this HSBC account ?
It does have a $50 monthly fee if you don't deposit 5k every month or have 75K sitting in the account.

I have had hsbc us accounts for 2 years opened thorough hsbc australia premiere .
It might be better for you to qualify for premiere in australia and then open and. Maintain account in the us via oz premiere reciprocal recognition.

LOL I just had a scam call from "Amazon" on my Textnow number. I wonder how they got it, Only B of A, Amex and Chase have this number.

Next credit card dilemma. I should finish the minimum spendings on my 2 new cards by the end of this month, max next month if I use the Princess Cruise payment to finish the Amex. Since I will have larger expenses in Sept and Oct I can manage a card with a $4000 spending requirement.
There is Chase 5/24 to worry about so I need to get a Chase card or 2 in there somewhere. First choice is CSP but their bonus is back to 60k/$4000 $95 fee not waived. Otherwise there is United Explorer with 60k/$3000 spend plus extra 10K if I spend an extra $3000. Annual fee waived. Another advantage is I have an existing relationship with Chase so hopefully their fraud dept won't hassle me and they will ship the card to Australia.

Or
Citi Premier 80k/$4000 $95 fee not waived. I have a past relationship with Citi and cancelled my last card with them in Jan 2020.
Capitol One Venture 75k/$4000 $95 annual fee not waived. I have never done business with them so no idea if they will accept me based on a great Fico 800+ with 3 accounts actively posting statements to Experian. Or if i will have to jump through hoops again.
Has anyone gotten instant approval for any of these cards? And shipped to Australia?

I think most banks will not ship the first card issued for an account outside the US . Does anyone know otherwise ?

Is it possible to use an overseas address with capital one ? I could not see the option in my account . They would not accept myus either as itā€™s recognized as a cmra.

My original plan was End July Chase CSP making spend over holiday in Turkiye.

Beginning of Sept Chase United, can do $3000 spend normal living expenses.

I will be in LAX end of April. So I was going to go for Citibank and Cap One Venture end of March. If they give me fraud grief, I can walk into a branch when I am in LA and sort it out.
But now these two cards have unusually high sign up bonuses which is making me think twice about the order I do the cards.

I have a big South America trip planned for 2025 and will need a lot of LATAM flights so I would like the Chase 5/24 slots reopened in 2024 to grab a BA card.

I canā€™t log into my core credit equifax account anymore . I believe itā€™s an Id verification issue because when I called they asked me to submit my id docs .
Does this mean at this point I will be rejected for any further cards ? I ask as I was also rejected for the curve card with no reasons provided .

Is there no other Bonvoy card to downgrade the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant to? I was having a look at the US website but it seems to be the only Bonvoy card. I thought I recalled there being a lower tier one, but I must have been mistaken or perhaps they pulled it?

Been recently contemplating this again after hitting a brick wall a couple of years ago (MyUS refusing to forward the card, Amex unable to change the address because I couldn't receive a verification SMS to my Skype number). Only issue was having no Australian Amex card to globally transfer, until I remembered my old UK Amex.

Textnow was a nightmare, try as I might I couldn't get that to allow me to signup (instantly blocked for violating Terms of Service, how I'm not sure as I'd entered no details at all), tried using VPNs, the lot. What has worked to get a US phone number is to simply sign up to a T-Mobile e-SIM plan - I haven't worked out how to get it to roam yet, but it does connect to Wifi calling, so receives calls and SMS that way.

Application for Hilton Aspire was accepted. I'll see how I go with Planet Express or whether I call Amex to try the re-ship option in a week or so, but it did let me add the card straight to PayPal, which I promptly used to pay my Telstra bill, so that's more than I've achieved before.

Am I supposed to see a signup bonus counter for this card? I know Amex AU & UK have always been touch and go as to whether this actually exists or not. I can see my Hilton Honors balance in the app.

When I sign in to the Amex US Website there is a section relating to how much you spent so far to get the 2nd Free Weekend Night Reward (the $60k USD one šŸ¤£) for the Hilton Aspire so I suppose you can use that to track how much you spent so far this year.
