Strategy to obtain US Amex

Has anyone successfully linked their US Amex to their Australian PayPal account? It now requires you to put in the billing address of the card but without the option to change the country. Any ideas 🤷‍♂️

Hmm never had this issue with Amex or Chase. What happens when you try to link it via the Amex App?

Can leave country as oz . Use other us details . But it does warn you that payments may not go thru

Going thru app won’t make a difference

Just tried …. spinning wheel of death leading to PayPal App crash.

i might just give up rather than persisting, in this instance. The possible pain far exceeds the possible gain ….. just a nice to have really

Never used to be an issue - used to happily have my UK & Australian cc on my Australian PayPal account (mind you, used to have a UK paypal account too - but they made me close that; they’ve obviously upped their security game)

For those that have successfully applied for Chase Credit cards what email address did you send requested information to (i.e bank statement and passport)? I have called human recon line as I got the 7-10 days message after applying for CSP. After entering my ITIN and automated voice advised they had sent me a letter requesting more information that I should receive in up to 7 days. I have a MyUS address with legacy mail subscription so I will receive the letter but thought If there was a standard Chase applications email address I would just go ahead and email the documents.
Call Chase and they'll email you the request. The letter is just asking you to call anyways.

Update: Called Chase and after being passed around to several different areas eventually the Fraud department tried to verify me. Short-code text predictably didn't work as I only have textnow paid service so they asked random questions including how long had I worked for company x and how long had I lived at address x. I answered "never" to both questions. Then the rep stated they would review my application and I would know of the decision in 1-2 Weeks by mail. I suspect it's a denial since I was never asked for supporting documents to send although the automated message still indicates the first letter is a request for additional documents.

I Don't know whether it's worth calling again and hoping for a more helpful rep or wait for the letter (which should arrive at MyUS this week) and then get it sent to oz asap to see what is required.

That's odd. When I try to add it into Paypal, it bugs out a little bit then fails and returns me back to the Amex app but the card gets added successfully.

This sounds exactly like a fraud conversation. You're probably going to get a letter saying that they've detected fraud and there isn't anything you can do besides applying again the future.

Yeh I suspected this might be the case. I know others have had issues receiving verification texts from Chase. I did purchase a $3 pre-paid T-Mobile Sim from ebay a little while back but I can't seem to get it to activate properly. I'm not sure this would ensure approval next time but it would surely help with verification process. Might have to pivot back to applying for Amex Platinum and wait a few months and try again with Chase.

Not necessarily . It’s quite common for chase to verify you by asking random questions for which the answer is always no / never .

Did you guys try Google voice?

The point wasn't about the random questions but rather the fact that they said "we'll get contact you in writing 7-10 business days" over the phone after all the steps. I had the exact experience when I tried to apply for WoH and went through all the mentioned steps but was sent a letter saying that they believe the application was fraudulent and when I called they said they can't recon the application.

I'll be truly surprised if he gets an email requesting docs or approval in the mail.

I have GV and Chase still has issues sending me texts. The thing with GV/Google Fi though is that I can accept calls so they can verify me that way. I always request that they call my GV/Google Fi # so they can verify my ID.

YMMV but it might be worthwhile getting a phone number where you can accept calls to provide an additional step for verification. I would add a phone # to an existing account and let it report to the bureaus for a month or two.

Don’t you need to have a regular sim number to load onto google voice ?

Yep.

Hi all,

I opened my first Amex (Gold) and a BOFA secured card over a year ago and my FICO score was OK before Amex removed access. I got my ITIN back in June so it isn't associated with my existing accounts. I applied for a Citi card and it was rejected so just wondering if anyone had advice on getting approved - is it best to open another Amex through GT with the ITIN attached?

"Holiday in NY?" ;)

On another topic, does anyone know existing aspire card holders get to double dip the $250 resort credit + $200 resort credit for 2H 2023? The T&Cs said the following:

Hilton Honors Aspire Card Members approved prior to October 19, 2023 will receive up to $250 in statement credits per membership year for eligible purchases made directly with participating Hilton Resorts through December 31, 2023. Starting January 1, 2024, Card Members can receive up to a total of $200 in statement credits semi-annually (January through June; and July through December), for up to $400 back annually for eligible purchases made directly with participating Hilton Resorts on their Card Account.

Based on the text it looks you don't get the double dip but I'm aware that the airline credit allowed double dip?
I asked the same up thread and decided to take the plunge. After my membership year renewed, I booked and received my credit in Nov. Now to wait for next year and see what happens...My reading is that we do get it as "Starting January 1, 2024, Card Members..." has no mention of "approved after October 19, 2023" like it does regarding the original $250 so these "Card Members" should be everyone.
On a side note, yes, the airline credit is active and I received mine.
