Strategy to obtain US Amex

Have just been approved for a Citi premier card . It will be sent to my planet express address . Does anyone have any experience with calling Citi and letting them know one is travelling and requesting. Card be sent to oz ? Or will that throw up a red flag ?

Would you mind sharing your experience in using your Citi card in OZ? Did you get flagged by Fraud Dept while using the physical card / ApplePay? Just got approved with the Strata Premier and thinking of using the card to qualify the SUB. Thanks in advance

I’ve applied for the Chase Sapphire Reserve card twice and both times the card got closed after being approved and issued due to some ID verification issues as can’t get to the branch to ID with my ITIN. It’s getting frustrating given the second time it’s happened . Thanks in advance.

I opened the online accounts in the US. The talkatone phone sub can receive bank short codes but you can’t reply with yes etc to short code numbers. I used my Wyndham account to test whether the short codes were coming through to my talkatone number. You have to get a text or call to login to your Wyndham account. When I wanted to load my boa and wells cards to my Apple wallet in the states I had to ring their call centre to activate it.

Can someone tell me how long the membership rewards take to post when using an Amex green card outside of the US? I got my card loaded on Apple wallet a couple of weeks ago and have been using it in nz in the last week but no membership rewards are showing on my account.
Also how do you load you US amex card on your iPhone when using a nz Apple wallet? It wouldn’t let me load it on my nz Apple wallet when I was in nz, so I loaded it on a separate phone. Not wanting to carry around two phones…

From what I've read on reddit, it was pretty much a cycle of apply, hit the spend, get the points and transfer them ASAP then wait for the shut down. There is no way out of it apparently.

Yes flagged for fraud quite a few times . Difficult to set up on Apple Pay . Only when the card is new though .

P2 got ITIN a couple of months ago and used it for the first time at Cap1. Decided to apply since Cap1 could be difficult. Checked the pre-approval link and was pre-approved for Venture. Submitted the app and uploaded a copy of ITIN and passport on Monday night and was approved this morning. There is no address verification so it is good for those who don't have a bank account or utility bills. The app was all done by me without P2 doing anything so it is good if you have a lazy (or busy) P2 .

I have had Citi cards since 2016 so things might have changed. In the past, I had to set up travel notification every 3 months or the transactions would be declined. However, I haven't had to do this for the past couple of years. The option is still there at Services --> Travel Services. If your account is new, I think it won't hurt to set this up and start with smaller transactions.

Yes it was 75K. Decided on this one before Chase because P2 cannot do address verification at Chase and I think Cap1 might be inquery sensitive. They are just weird and I think P2 should signup as soon as getting pre-approved.. I was approved for Venture X after being denied for Venture Rewards 2 times.

I’ve been using my Citi US card in AU for years and it’s worked well with both ApplePay and the physical card.

I did try to buy $2500 worth of Apple gift cards at the supermarket to buy a computer and that transaction was blocked. I managed to unblock the card easily. I bought the Apple Card’s with my Amex so didn’t get to test how it backed up after the block was cleared. It’s worked well for purchases since (though I don’t usually spend $2500 in one go with it).

Hi, long time lurker here, appreciate all the content. Read through all the posts over Christmas hols 1.5 years ago and decided to jump through the hoops. Tello, HSBC premier for bank account. Have Bonvoy brilliant first GT card along with HSBC premier US card. After 6 months or so then applied Hilton Aspire via GT. Then got ITIN and subsequently got Amex Bonvoy Bevy and Business Plat.

Would like a good visa/mastercard in the US as earn rates in AU cards aren’t great and have caps. CSR seems a good start by end goal is Cap One Venture but seems like need at least 2 plus years to get cap one.

any advice on getting cap one venture card would be great. Applied but got denied. Probably not long enough credit history by the looks of things.

I’ll call them tonight and check. Seems the relevant department was closed when I called. Will revert. Weird they approved my application a second time but then got closed when I’m trying to sign up for an online account to manage the card. Worst case might apply again when I go to the US in person sometime I’d guess

I applied on Thursday for Ink Preferred and said it was under review and would soon contact me.
I got IHG Premier last year, don’t think they took so long. IIRC they sent me an email to provide ITIN and passport after 48 hours.

My second Chase Card (WOH) took just on 30 days to be approved. I got the same message as you. Called multiple times over days and weeks and needed to be verified multiple times and passed back and forth to various departments and was finally approved. I ended up faxing my ITIN letter as requested by Chase from the snail mail that was sent to my MyUS address. This took about 2 weeks to arrive in the suite and then another few days to get it sent to AUS. I proactively asked whether there was additional information I could provide to speed up the decision I was always told they had what they needed and to simply wait. It might be just a case of getting a competent rep who asks for the required information, and you get approved immediately. Hope it's a little quicker than my experience.
