Strategy to obtain US Amex

I'm in the process of relocating from Sarasota. I was going to hold off putting My C1 application as the address has passed muster with C1 in their "pre-approval" tool. Do they ask for address verification etc to get to the end of the application? If so, I'll cool my heels and change my HSBC Bank address forst and wait for the first statement with that address to be issued assuming that's sufficient for C1 to get to "yes" - I'm planning to get the Venture Rewards since it's 2x on everything works out to 1.35:1 with the currency where it is. Not bad for a Visa - earns more than a high end Amex in Australia - at least before too many of us go this route and merchants start to surcharge more widely for foreign issued cards.

Any DP for the process to get to formal approval with C1 and what they will need in relation to documentary evidence (eg AU Passport for ID). I already have ITIN. I had managed to get a checking account with C1 last year but they ended up closing it a few weeks later for an unspecified reason. I couldn't use Sarasota for the Credit Card as it wouldn't send there so hoping I can progress further this time.

TIA for your help :)

P2 just got approved a few days ago. No address verification. Just needed to upload passport and ITIN. That was my experience a couple of years ago too.

Thanks for the heads up. I will wait until my move is complete before taking my application to completion.

Welcome neighbour 🤣
I moved from Sarasota (MyUS). The US Global Mail will be more expensive than MyUS but I now receive (scanned) letters. MyUS was proving to be problematic, with no letters getting through for at least the past six months. I was never on the Mail plan, but letters had mostly got through to me in the past (3 years).

I’m finding myUS extortionately expensive as well. I have 3 letters that have arrived and they’re quoting $US46 to forward them. I understand they’re not a charity but that’s like $A68 for 3 envelopes. I think that’s taking the Mickey out of customers. The service is a convenience which must attract a modest premium but this is pretty high.

I also fell foul of CapitalOne and have been trying for months to get a refund of the balance of my 360 checking account which they closed. Nothing nefarious on my part. I have since read that this is not uncommon with them.

I received a C1 debit card at Sarasota, but the credit card was a no-go for that address.

Yeah, that is the main reason why i changed to US Globalmail too. So far, they have not failed me and having the peace of mind is priceless.

Expensive, but the upside is that they will forward your letters, because, from memory, you are on the Mail plan, so at least you can receive ordinary (United States Postal Service) mail. Have you decided where you are moving to?

My capital one checking account was closed as well . Does anyone know if planet express works with C1 ?

I’m moving to Manhattan. I’ve tested out the address with C1 and it didn’t spit the dummy for a CC application so I’ll try this & see where it goes.

I couldn’t get a handle on forwarding costs though. I’ll have to suck it and see I guess.

That mirrors my experience. I did manage to get a refund of my balance in my C1 checking account which included the account opening bonus. I got it transferred to another checking account. They took their time and I received a cheque which I was able to deposit into another checking account at another bank. It's easy to take bank transfers for granted as we do with our experience in AU. While C1 took my alternate banking details for the transfer, they sent me a cheque which I was then able to deposit into my HSBC US account using the app.

I think Sarasota is a no-go with C1.
