Strategy to obtain US Amex

I just applied for a Amex Green card (I had a SSN and an expired Amex (sep 2019)) and got instantly approved (Thanks to BlackSultan). I gave my mates address in the US and used Textnow as my mobile number. When I checked for my FICO score it said 750 with no activity on Discover which is a free site(used my last Amex Blue Cash card in July 2018).
I also got the option to add it to my apple wallet. It asked me to input the Identification sent to my email. I tried 5 times to resend and it did not turn up in my gmail account. Finally the system timed out.

After an hour or so I could see 5 ID validation code. I also received another email to try downloading again. I got the code instantaneously. I was able to download the card for online purchases with Temp CID code (4 digit - will be valid till I receive my physical card), expiry and card number. However, I was unable to add it to my apple wallet saying contact csard issuer which I will do it in the morning. The doc. said it would take 10 business days for my physical card. The card does not have a pre-set spending limit.

My FICO score noted is 712 from experian because of lack of activity / Lack of Revolving credit or Loans
I want to apply for World Of Hyatt Card with Chase. Might wait for a month. What are my chances to get it approved

Don’t think service stations are supposed to be bonus category

Haven’t received any service station bonus on Amex Green. I have though on my Citi Premier.

I’m using the government’s e-Toll tag that might not work as a bonus merchant. Glad the public transport does as I use it more frequently.

it is a bit annoying that Amex won’t let you hold a credit for more than 3 months then sends you a cheque (which in my case took months and didn’t arrive then apparently arrived after I cancelled it and got MyUS to send me my mail for ... only $US15. I know it’s a good convenience but that price takes the p***s out of us ... just my 2 cents worth.

Try the Green to buy food, coffee or GC's at any 7/11's without an attached petrol station. 3X every time. It codes as dining.

I don’t use toll roads much, but had my Green attached to my toll account for occasions when I do. Took it off and put it back to AU Amex when I noticed it isn’t eligible for 3X points.

Parking seems to work a lot better though, unless If you park at a Govt run car park which codes as Govt Services.

For some reason I thought that it was QLD. Must have got your profile mixed up. Anyway, good to see that you found that it works. I believe that most electronic toll tags will work in the other states, so you are onto a winner.

Some banks/services detect VOIP and refuse to send or unable to send ie Fluz app (trying to get Amex small shop credits).

My GV works fine with Citi and Amex. Chase is a weird one. I can receive their spending alerts just fine by SMS but verification when calling them won't work.

I tried Text Now and didn't work as well since they are all VOIP.

Yes there was a bit of a drama on that part lol I couldn't set up online account. The system just kept giving me an error. It found my info as the error was different when I tried using wrong info. It could be that it couldn't send sms to GV. If you run into the same issue, call and ask for "Online Team" and they will set it up for you (of course after another boring verification lol). The code will be sent to your email.

The boring verification with online team - how did they verify you? are they changing the way to verify you when your gv cannot receive sms?

thank so much for the info of this thread , i am looking to apply my first US Amex via GT , i have a relative address that i could use , do i also need to get an us phone number as the form only asked for au passport and stated income . my understanding that you won't need ITIN or SSN for your first GT card ?

with amex since 2016 and currently hold charge , explorer and reserve with them

I am looking at : Hilton Aspire / Marriot Bonvoy Brilliant or the Amex Green card which give 3x bonus and ability to transfer AU MR - US MR .
