Strategy to obtain US Amex

I'm assuming these numbers are the last 5 digits of the card I will receive (hopefully)?
No, these are the last 5 digits of your original card which is now on the way to your STE. You will receive a new card once you get through this, and can see your new numbers as soon as they reproduce your card.

Did you use the Aus starbucks app?
No. I’m using the US Starbucks app, because the Aspire offer is for US restaurants, not Australian ones, so I’ve assumed that there may be issues if loading the Oz app.

Can I ask why I would even need a USA credit Card? What’s the benefit when there are so many good Australian card options with no fees or exchange rate margin ie 28 degrees credit card?
Good Australian card options? There are none. They all disappeared when the RBA interfered in interchange pricing.

The US credit card market is vastly more competitive than ours and there are zero Australian card options that can be called good compared to the US options. Have a look at something like the Hilton Surpass card (currently offering 150k Hilton points as a signup bonus) just for a start.
The 28 degrees card earns no points at all and, as far as I know, has no benefit except for no exchange rate fees, which is standard on almost every US card.

When I saved the offer to my Aspire, the T+C included “... you will earn one $20 statement credit each month after spending $20 or more in combined eligible purchases on your Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card at US restaurants (including takeout and third party delivery services) per month, during the Purchase Period, up to a total of $220 in statement credits...”

So, “combined eligible purchases”. Anyway, it’s per month, and not per statement, so still plenty of time to put your mind at rest. 😀

Edit: Not still paying taxes are you? 😉
:) no tax this time as i put tax free state as the billing address.

yeh that figures... did you have to do something fancy like VPN to get the US app here in aus?

Just to add another datapoint for those looking to get Auth Users; once the card has been shipped to a US address, after 10-14 days, you can ring up the back of your card, and ask them to ship it to your Australian home. They will also offer to change your address to the AU one if you would like. This will be shipped with their fastest option (FedEx/TnT or UPS). Must be a legit house address here in Australia (which I'm sure most people here won't have issue with).

Ideal for those who just want the card and that's that. But most likely those who got Amex, its a door opening for other cards so probably wouldn't want to do that on your account. Note, Auth Users in the AMEX system does open up a FICO score in the back-end, tying to their spending habits; and *your* (i.e. main account holder's) ability to pay back.

Just got $10 + $20 Starbucks credits on Bonvoy and Aspire. Also got $15 Wireless credit on Bonvoy biz from topping up T-mobile. Amex plat also gives $100 bestbuy credit which I will probably buy T-mobile topup card. At this point, I can keep the number for 7 years and 4 months. Thankfully I can make use of $30/m Paypal credit or I will have extra 5 years with T-mobile. 😆 Didn't think about keeping the number this long but at least I will be able to get more Google voice numbers.

I do use a VPN.
Hi DC3, I also got the spend $20 per month/restaurant offer on my hilton aspire card. Can you please clarify if you are loading up the US starbucks app with $20 and you have been getting the $20 statement credit each month?

I loaded my US Starbucks app on 1st Feb. In my Starbucks app, “Add money to Starbucks Card”, I have my Aspire set as the the payment method. The Starbucks app credited immediately as did my Aspire debit. The $20 Aspire credit came through on 12/13th Feb, so almost two weeks. This promotion only started in Feb, and can be used monthly until the end of 2021. $220 all up available.

I just need to set a reminder to use it monthly (and allowing for US time difference if doing it on the first day of the month). Also, I’m using a VPN.

Edit: The US app can be used in a number of countries including USA, Canada, Mexico, UK, Ireland, Australia, Hong Kong and the balance never expires. Starbucks apps in most other countries are country-specific.

received my credit on the 10 Feb
From posts on FT, the 28th January seems to be a possible cut-off (application) date in order to receive AA miles for the Motley Fool, for when the rules changed. ☹️

I have Apple store accounts for each of Oz and the US, although I believe that Apple frowns on more than one account. I downloaded the Starbucks app on my US Apple account.
