Strategy to obtain US Amex

I think it's the Chase Trifecta that makes them popular. ie Freedom Flex normally offer 5% cashback on categories rotating every quarter. Cashback is in the form of points but cannot be transfered to airlines/hotels but if you have CSR or CRP, points can be combined nd transfered to partners. Basically you can get 5x points on a lot of categories. It's kinda useless to us as Freedom cards have 3% foreign transaction fee.

I will get Hyatt about 3 months after IHG and will forget about them for a while. With ITIN, I could try do more business cards with Amex. It's normally easier to deal with Chase if you have a longer credit history. If I had to guess, your issue could be the length of history. Hope you get the account back after the review.

My last 2 applications with Chase, they did 2 hard pulls on my credit file sheesh. While some people successfully got them to remove, I was told it was normal.
I kept trying to run combinations together and came to the same conclusion the Freedom cards make the Sapphire cards worth while but the FX fee makes it a non starter for us.

Hyatt card seems good with free cert and another one after 15K spend but unless you can achieve Globalist our easier path to Hilton Diamond or temporary Marriott platinum is easier.

My FICO dropped from 780 to 730 after dealing with Chase and now look to be in trouble anyway 🤦‍♂️ Back to good old faithful Amex. Maybe try Citi in a few months if I feel brave enough.

can you receive personal text on your t mobile prepaid number last time when you deal with chase?
I only had one chase application and they acutally did two enquires, one is on the date i submitted the application and the second one is when i called them to discuss my applicaiton (this is also the time when the card got approved).
For your case two cards applications with two hp are quite normal.

Did they ask about addresses you had never heard of also?
Sounds similar to how AMEX tries to identify you by asking questions that you would definitely say no to. For example when they were trying to ID me they asked me questions like do you know who a certain person is and where they live, and did you ever own a 2018 toyota camry.... I have no idea why or how the random questions are meant to help them...

I still used GV and haven't changed yet. I don't mind their questions. I wanted to keep things simple. Phone number appears on credit file too and could take a few months to be updated. I wanted make sure the old number was there as I applied for a few cards in a short time. No idea if that helped.

Chase did 2 pulls each so I just had another 4.

my first chase card (csp) just passed 3 months. i will wait for another 3 months to apply either hyatt or IHG. My credit history is about 16 months so still relatively short. seems like there is no good offer recently on hyatt card. Hyatt card also has higher credit limit requirement compared to IHG so hard to get approved compared to IHG. In 3 moths time i have to decide which one to get firstly.

Also said best not use your card and account is under review. Also Apple Pay just removed my card without me doing it. 😬 my Chase career might be over ... Locked out of online banking now also.
How unfortunate. I feel for you. Hopefully it gets sorted.

It also seems that iPlum has its limitations for verification (although this issue is possibly universal) but not the reason for the original issue (whatever that turns out to be?)

only postpaid service can receive chase personal verification.

I think I am now eligible to view my credit score via the us amex as I have the Hilton aspire card for more than six months now. However, when I click on the link to check my score, it is asking me to register and inputting my social security number to register. Any idea on how to get around the SSN when i registerd??

Possibly a bit awkward then, for some of us.
Yes postpaid expensive and also need ssn

No way to see. We can only see the simply fico score not the comprehensive credit report.

What would be a good card outside of AMEX to get once a fico score has been established between Chase sapphire preferred & Citi premier? (Or should it be a hotel branded card?)

If I am correct both gives bonus points to restaurants, transit and any other things globally - not restricted like Amex to US only.

Both seems to be doing good promotions of their cards for bonuses but will be good to gather another card for once travel opens back up again.

You are spot on Chase Sapphire and Citi Premier are the one to get cards. The other one I like is the Capital One Venture cards. However, you will need a bit of credit history to get approved for both. Furthermore, both have their own restrictions eg. Chase has the no more than 5 cards applied in 24 months and Citi has no more than 2 hard enquiries in 6 months.
The Amex cards are good to build credit rating especially the non-Charge cards. I am in sought of a similar boat i.e. I just restarted on the US cards (I cancelled my last card in Sep 2019 after I left the US) and I also have a SSN. Still I got rejected. I am going to focus on the Amex for 12 months and then target the other cards keeping in mind my oldest card was 14yrs and 3 months. Amex has a restriction of 2 cards in 90 days. You can hold 4 non charge cards (hotel, airline) and 10 Charge cards.

I know both have their pros and cons but I am trying to look into which has more airline partners that us Aussies can use to travel internationally. Looks like Qantas/Qatar/Emirates/SQ are the ones to go so getting a card that ideally hits this is the sweetspot. Definitely going to wait for a while before apply.

I started my journey with the Plat Charge so I'm not really sure what other card to take; probs either Hyatt or Marriott. But it still will have the same issue of some merchants not accepting Amex here.
