Strategy to obtain US Amex

Haven't seen this mentioned, was thinking of using the HSBC Relationship Savings account to store funds in USD and pay credit cards directly from this account as it offers 3.75% interest.

Anyone use it the same way and any pitfalls with this strategy?

Also how do you declare the tax? Considering HSBC doesn't have my ITIN right now, not sure if I declare it in the US with my ITIN or just directly in my Aust tax return.

Why we can’t offer you a deposit account

Our records show that you don’t have valid tax status documentation on file.

Guess i need to submit my itin somehow

Had to fill out a big form (11 pages) stating days in US etc. but have submitted my ITIN to HSBC - they say it will be updated in 3-5 business days - lets see

Is this for a HSBC checking account?

I've just recently applied and got approved and did not need to provide my itin.
Since I was applying through my HSBC AU premier status, I did provide my tfn though.

Question related Chase Sapphire Preferred 60000 Bonus (Received) and $300 Travel Credit ended in November please.

I applied in November but took awhile and got approved in December when the offer ended. How do I find out if I got $300 Travel Credit? Is it something that I can double check before spending through Chase travel portal? Called CS and he was not sure. Digging around my account and found nothing.

Thanks.

I wanted to provide my ITIN so I could set up a relationship saving account. Its certainly not mandatory

Purchase $300+ of travel and it'll get applied to your account as a statement credit. Don't need to use the Chase travel portal IIRC.

Anyone know of a good mail forwarder for Canada? I am looking to open a Canadian Amex card via global transfer but unlike the US, there doesn't appear to be many mail forwarder options in Canada

Is there a way to know if it's elevated travel credit of $300 offer that I got? I am not sure because card got approved way after the offer expired. Thanks @levelnine

I paid for a few transactions coded as Travel but did not receive Statement Credit. so I guessed I need to use it via chase Travel portal.

You can secure message Chase to confirm the welcome offer on the card.

I'm in the same boat, the terms of the offer did say it had to be $300 spent via the Chase Travel Portal and there's some DPs online that it can stack with the $50 hotel credit but doesn't show any tracker.

In people’s experience - how long do you need to hold your ITIN and a few HSBC/Amex cards to apply for the CSP? I got my HSBC and first Amex in August but only got ITIN in Oct and only this week have applied it to both the HSBC and Amex accounts. Would 6 more months be enough?

Frugal flyer is a Canadian website that has some suggestions as does churning Canada on reddit - there is a weekly US credit card churning - they may have some info there too
