Strategy to obtain US Amex

Very interesting if they do accept with AU DL. Do you have a decent score and credit file? I’m only 6 months into the game so I think I’d be an outright no even with the above

I stopped checking my score because I have no way of doing so! Last time I tried MyFICO it split my credit file.

From what I've heard, the people verifying the documents have no consistency. Some accept a foreign passport, some accept a foreign DL but it's a mixed bag. Apparently Canadians have the same issue!

It's been almost 3 years since my 1st GT.

Amex GT question - can the first GT have your ITIN or should you wait until the 2nd?

Related - any difference between nova credit w/ITIN and GT with regard to acceptance?
To my understanding going GT means no US credit check whatsoever. They claim to look at your AU history but I assume unless that’s Wful (with Amex themselves) you’d not have an AU hit on your file either. Though I believe Amex AU regularly hit to update their own records

I guess you could add ITIN on first GT but I don’t think it would change how they assess

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this, I received my green card today, I had it resent to a hotel in LA were I am currently. Resend was sent in an "Extremely urgent" UPS parcel and tracking showed it arrived overnight, although their (amex's) computer says it would take about a week

I activated card online and setup the account this morning. Used it for 5 smallish <$150 usd purchases, grocery store, fuel some shopping, all successful, totalling about $350

But tonight, I tried to use it at the citadel outlet, for a $300 usd purchase, but it was declined, attempted a small purchase, but it looks like a block was put on the card. Call Amex and was told I now need to do a notarycam, and would take an estimated 24hrs to clear up, and I return in 2 days, was going to knock out the whole SUB in one go :)

Anyone else have to do a verification post approval?

I applied with a myus address and ITIN.

Did they ask for proof of US address like bank account at the time of application ?

Assuming you still hold an AU Amex that earns at least 2 points per $, what’s the point of the green (aside from the SUb)?

Pretty sure like everyone else, its the arbitrating of the points. AU MR to US MR

Plus its other benefit of additional (1:1) transfer partners

Ahh. So it’s your only card? And solely for purpose of transferring across?

I’m thinking as an additional card with the current weak exchange rate there’s little benefit to earning 3 pts per USD when I can earn 2.25 per AUD (or 3.6 per UsD) on my AU Plat Charge. Obviously that au point devalues a when i send it over to the US but the difference isn’t much to warrant the effort of adding the green.

The Gold for dining at 4x has enough extra in it (for me at least) to make it worthwhile

It's my first US amex card, might try my luck going up the line for the SUB, but it easily pays for itself with my business spend.

Last 2 trips redeeming 5x seats at a time have been fun

They can't pick them up and I don't provide bank statements.
They usually ask for salary account statements and if they see transfer to other accounts ask for those statments as well .
One can plan by moving funds to a bank account solely for transfers to wise at least 6 months before applying for a mortgage .
Also not making transfer to this account during this 6 months before applying Period .

Yeah. Definitely worth having an MR card for sure. But I opted for the Gold over the Green

I've never had this issue in the past 4 years of refinancing.. not once have I been asked for a bank statement.

Must be bank dependent.

Definitely don't try and add a US paypal account for send and split if its a new account/card - AMEX blocked my card, had to spend few hours with Notarycam, and talking to AMEX to try and get it unblocked.

For those who had experiences in opening a BoA account in the US, was there any hurdles or are you able to describe your experiences?

I recently had an offer to upgrade to the Amex Gold from Amex Green as I was looking to cancel. 30K points for 1K spend. Definitely worthwhile there!

You can ask but they might want to see more paid off.

I pay quote a range of bills using post billpay via paypal pay in 4, as this counts as an "online" transaction and I get double points on a Citi Premier CC in Australia. (all paypal pay in4 counts as "online" for Citi Premier)

Paypal says that I am paying "Australian Postal Corporation" each time I do this.

I've noticed that award wallet says "Australian Postal Corpo Melbourne" codes as shipping and gives 3x points on Chase Ink Business Preferred.

Anyone want to give this a go? Potential 3x points back on literally every bill.

I'm fairly sure this is widely known. For bills that can be paid at Auspost (physical), they will always be coded as shipping. However, I have seen instances where Post Billpay (online) does not code as shipping which is why I opt to walk instore to pay.
