So because its a premium booking does that mean the dates are flexible hence I can change the date/time with no extra point or $ cost ? Or am i misunderstanding things

Incorrect - Velocity rewards seats | Virgin Australia

All changes and cancellations must be made via the Membership Contact Centre and within their opening hours.
Depending upon what fares are available through our Membership Contact Centre, the fare for your new booking may be higher than the original.
You must pay any fare difference between the fare for your new booking and the original fare.

Probably a dumb question, but from that first screen shot it looked like you could pay with cash, do you need to have enough velocity points to take advantage of any of these low priced flight options???

My understanding is that you do need enough points to cover the full points cost of the flight (ie fare in points + taxes in points) to proceed from the first screen, but at the last stage of the process you can switch out taxes in points and instead pay taxes in cash.

In this case the fare is 0 points and the taxes are 13,100 points so you will most likely need 13,100 points to begin the booking process, but you can change that to fare of 0 points plus taxes of ~$104 on the final screen.

Yeah, that's what it looked like to me, that you could pay just $104, but i don't have the required amount of points, so maybe its like Qantas where it won't even let you proceed if you don't have sufficient points in the first place...

How do you adjust the points back to zero, I have more than enough points, but would prefer to pay cash for this particular flight

Follow the process - Select > Passenger > Extras > Seating > Payment.

On the payment page the slider allows you to maximise the cash cost ($104.63) and minimise the point cost (0 points).

Not much further to Europe then and the ways things are going, there will be something to get you back!

I've found the outbound but as I expected not an inbound. If I could find something similar coming back I'd go just for sh*ts and giggles but other than that I've no desire to visit AUH.

Edit your second post, or post 4 in the thread as well eckorock. You should also probably be granted access to the spreadsheet for finding this one.

what is this spreadsheet you speak of ?
the SC master spreadsheet or something?

I"m not doing this for status credits btw guys... i figure its about as cheap a way to get to Europe for a holiday in a premium reward class...

So your friend booked a mistake fare that went through or to the U.S? 14 CFT 399.88 is a US DOT ruling.

Did your friend quote this when changing the date?

A friend was able to book and subsequently change the dates on a briefly lived mistake fare (covered by 14 CFT 399.88) last week. Seems to me that VA are honouring these fares. Could well be that SABRE (or their liability insurance) is picking the tab if these fares are a direct result of the recent systems upgrade.

I have the princely total of 4,000 points in my account and I was able to book it. I will start looking for a way home, and would be pleased to hear if anyone found a cheap and efficient route back. I am traveling in May, if anyone who has also booked would like to compare dates.

Yes to the first, and no, the friend didn't quote the relevant CFR. His dates were changed and tickets reissued after charging him a $60 change fee per ticket.

Either that, or find a way to get to CMB/BOM and CX has decent one way J fares out of those two stations. MH should come in slight cheaper from the same ports.

A few of the first 7-8 posts would probably need to be edited to keep the origin-destination secret, maybe a mod could do it??

That would not be ethical IMHO, unless a post breaks site rules then I don't believe it should be touched by anyone other than the OP, we cannot change posts because we don't agree with them being published or any opinion they may contain.

I agree. Mistake posts like mistake fares, should only be retracted by the author.

Paging eckorock, NM and kevrosmith to the white courtesy phone.
