Successful QF 'Bid Now Upgrades' data thread

I received a Qantas online questionnaire about Qantas loyalty yesterday. The first part is my opinion about Qantas and loyalty but I suspect the ultimate question is about opinion on Bid Now programme. The reason is the first part is very generic but the Bid Now parts are very specific. So Qantas is doing some additional research on Bid Now. I hope that helps.

Also the survey only works with desktop computer. When I click on the link on my mobile it states the survey is full no more participants required. Later the day I did it on the computer without problems. Good luck.

had the same experience - doesn't work on iPad either

Does booking class have any effect on whether an upgrade is offered or not? I've got flights in Y to HKG and BKK in Jan. To HKG my TA booked S class so I can request a points upgrade. But BKK was booked into N class - just wondering if lower booking classes were anecdotally excluded versus higher booking classes?

I don't think international flights in O,Q and N are eligible, but when reading the QF FAQs these bookings don't seem to be excluded. I don't think anyone has reported being offered a Bid Now Upgrades in these booking classes here.

I think you have a very good point. What ever happened to these - have QF basically stopped offering them or are they rejecting most of the bids they are getting?

Personally I'm still yet to receive a single offer.
I get a combination of the 10,000 QFF points to upgrade and the upgrade bid emails for almost every booking. I am not giving Qantas 10,000 QFF points or what they deem is a fair minimum bid. Both way too high. Let me choose my own minimum like UL and RJ.

And business cabins are <50% full on most BNE-SYD flights.

Just had my first ever bid offer for MEL-BNE. Minimum bid is 3,000 QFF points + $180... Don't think I'll take the bait, although do have some form of fear of missing out due to never having received an offer prior to this.

That seems a little tight, they offered me 3,000 and $80 for a MLB-ADL flight. Considering I only paid $69 for our flights in the first place I thought what the hell and to my surprise it was accepted, guess domestic business class is really struggling.

Had the same offer however did not get accepted
Then there were two seats still two left empty so did a on departure upgrade

Received an offer to upgrade our flight to HKG. Originally booked in PE. Minimum bid was $ 385 each plus 5000 points. Decided to offer $505 each ( probably too much !! ) plus 5000 points. Upgrade successful. Notified almost 24 hrs before. Disappointed when I went to select seats could only select in middle row downstairs. However when checking in this morning the lovely agent at check in was able to have 23 released so now in 23A & B . Very happy.

Hi
I've received an offer to bid for an upgrade for SYD to LAX. Min 5000 points and $875. This is the first time for me. I have got a one world ticket so I am not sure if this has made a difference but I have only been offered the bid now for my first leg.
I really want to bid as I have never flown business before and it is something I have wanted to do for years but never had the funds.
Although I am tempted to bid the least amount possible I don't want to spoil my chances of getting an upgrade for the sake of $100. I only have 12000 points at the moment so I was thinking of bidding 10,000 points and the minimum amount of $. When I play around with the slider the indicator is still in red even when I increase my points bid from 5000 to 10,000. It seems that you will be more successful if you bid more cash which I can understand. However I can't really afford to increase the cash component. Has anyone been successful bidding the least amount possible in cash and points?
My flight is on Monday, not sure if this makes a difference.

What is your flight number and departure date?

I've been invited to bid for an upcoming SYD-BNE flight. Minimum bid 3,000 points + $115

It is Monday 30th QF17
I'm only a lowly Bronze FF if that makes a difference

OK. I had a look at your flight and at this point it looks fairly lightly loaded in business. So I think you'd be in with a chance bidding close to the minimum, but it depends how many try to upgrade with points - points upgrades have priority over Bid Now.

I'd bid ~$50-$100 above the minimum, and 5,000 points. Save your points - the extra points are just converted to "cash" at a rate of approximately $7 per 1,000 points. They are better saved for other things.

Cool thanks Mattg, I try it and report back!
How can you see the load of the flight?

How can you see the load of the flight?

From expert flyer. (You need a subscription). You can't see the exact load, but you can deduce quite a bit of information from the number of seats in each fare class that the airline is still prepared to sell. On your flight, there are still at least 9 (the maximum) seats available in even the lowest business class fare class. They wouldn't be selling that many (or any) discounted seats if the flight was full.

Below is a screenshot from Expert Flyer. J-I are business class, W, R & T are premium economy and the rest are for economy.
