Successful QF 'Bid Now Upgrades' data thread

Any news yet on the upgrade?

Hi

No not yet.
I bid $900 & 5000 points and then they sent me another offer for Premium Economy $500 & 5000 points. If my bid is not successful for the business class then they consider the other bid for Premium Economy.
They said they will notify me 24-12 hours before my flight. So the earliest I will hear is tomorrow evening I guess as my flight is Monday evening. I am just keeping everything crossed! I hate flying, so I'm hoping this might sweeten the experience for me lol

No upgrade :(
Both bids were unsuccessful. For business and for premium economy. I kept refreshing my email
They notified me exactly 12 hours prior to flight.
Maybe next time. What's the chances of being able to upgrade on check in? Probably slim I am guess.
Maybe I will get an offer on my return leg....
Thank you to Mattg for helping me understand the process a bit better anyway

Gee they are really pushing this bid for upgrades? I received another today for a domestic ADL-MLB 3000pts and $195 per person for a booking of 4 O.o
Are they selling that badly that they are looking to get groups of 4 to bid for upgrades?

Hi all

This is my first post on AFF, so I hope I do it correctly
Our family of three are flying SYD to DFW this week, booked Prem Econ.
I've received an email for an upgrade bid - min points 5,000 with cash bids from $620 to $2,465.

Can anyone please give any suggestions?
It would be good to be successful in a bid, as we have never flown Business before.

Many thanks

It really depends on how many points you have in the bank and your status with QF.

An upgrade from PE to Business is 50,000 points SYD-DFW with no extra money (aside from taxes).
So for a family of 3, if you have 150K of QFF points you could apply for the upgrade through the Qantas site rather than bid for an upgrade through the Bid Now auction.

If you don't have that many points then maybe you should have a think about whether it is better spending an extra $1860 to $7395 getting to DFW or spending it when you are there.

QF business is streets ahead of its PE product but family flying in J, whether for points or $$ can really drain the balance of both rather quickly.

If it was me, I would lob in a bid for just under $1K each and somewhere just over 5000 QFF points each and hope for the best.

Either way you will still be on the top deck of the A380 and not in the sardine can downstairs.

Thank you for your reply, The Flying Brick

I do have enough points to apply for an upgrade through the website, but wanted to keep those for the return journey, especially as it's a much longer flight.

I appreciate your input - I had thought along similar lines, so will hope for the best!

*nitpicker hat*

3k points and $195 for an upgrade to Florida is fantastic!

MLB is the airport code for Melbourne, Florida (USA). MEL is the airport code for Melbourne (Tullamarine), Victoria, Australia

just for future reference :)

Ok fair call :) my bad, here's hoping I get the same offer on my flights to Florida next year then :D but for now it will be back of the bus tomorrow when we fly :(

I certainly wouldn't pay 3000 + $195, it's barely an hour flight.

Added my unsuccessful bid on PER-ADL

Only bid this time because I thought I might not get an exit row (196cm, so I do not fit in the new 737-800 cabin 30 inch seat pitch). In the end, I got an exit row, so no biggie

When do people find out if their request has been successful? Am on the QF583 tomorrow at 19:30 so T-27 hours. I assume between 12-24 hours?

Seems to be it, possibly affected by Australian business hours. I had a late afternoon flight on Monday, put in a bid at midday Sunday, got a response by Monday morning.

There is a link in the first post of this thread that opens a form. Use that to enter your info and it will update the spreadsheet. :)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I was offered an upgrade this week on CBR-MEL for a minimum bid of 3,000 points + $100. I am quite sure that the minimum bid would be accepted as J looks completely empty so far, but I can't justify it for a ~40 minute flight.

BNE-PER A330 QF589 0830 Departure
New J Business Suites Config
4000pt + $210
Successful. Notified at T-24.
Seems like a good burn/$ charge.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

QF is inviting us to bid for MEL-ADL at 5000 points plus minimum $85.00 per pax. We'll pass. I like the $85 but not spending 10,000 points for two of us on a flight of just over one hour.

... or less.

Had 53 minute flights in recent weeks. Seriously

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Got an offer for SYD-CNS for $365 + 5000 points. I almost sprayed the drink I was consuming at the time. Seriously, are they smoking something? I can bid for an upgrade on VA for no points and less than half that dollar amount, AND my original fare would have also been cheaper!
