Suggestions for F/J options EUR to AUS

QF hands down.
Would only go EY if:
1/ The dedicated F lounge at T3 AUH was ready, and
2/ Apartments were available all the way LHR-AUH-SYD

Would you say QF A380 F overall product is better then EY B777 F?

I had a good think about this and yes I would for the following reasons.
I think EY has the edge over QF in a few areas perhaps but not alot in it.
Yes they have an on-board chef but still I think QF's food is marginally better.
Yes they have private suites with closing doors so better privacy and also more better suited for couples travelling together.

But for me there is on area in which QF (and most of the other top airlines) has a massive advantage over EY and that is with regards to the entertainment system.

EY's entertainment system is just so abysmally poor it is just a disgrace and a tragedy. Apparently this hasn't improved much with the 388 but the 77W I know for a fact is about as poor as it gets. And for a 13 hour flight, this matters. Even though I read a fair bit when I travel, I still like to be able watch a movie or two if I feel like it.

My brother who flew EY 77W with a mate of his two weeks after me put it best. The selection is so unbelievably poor that it's like they got the rights to screen the movies that all the other airlines rejected lol.

Well this thread has got me very worried about my trip to EUR next year. I thought I had done well with my choice of airlines, and point usage but I'm beginning to wonder.
We are flying EY in J from BNE -AUH (777) then AUH-LHR A380 (75 k AA points)
Return is SQ (LHR to SIN in suites) then SIN-SYD in F (97,750 SQ points)

Is this my best use of points?

I'd be relaxed and comfortable with your choices.

As would I.

I too think it's a pretty good itinerary! EY has some nice amenity kits!

Decent contents but I'm not a fan of the trtradition handmade cultural look of the actual kit. Each to their own though. I find the EK kits a lot of better. But I think we've had this discussion before

Would like to comment, but can't as when we flew two legs in Biz SNG-DXB-DUS in June we missed out on amenity kits both times. We were flying on award points but I would gave thought that made no difference...

I'd be shocked if it did. Which airline?

Emirates - I was responding to the comments by Nizar who spoke of their kits, but I should have included the airline in my post on reflection.

That's really lame you didn't get an amenity kit.

I am glad to have found this post, as I was weighing up QF F (QF 9) and EY F (787).

I'm looking at a number of the routes suggested here for September to get my wife and I to and from Europe. I'm struggling to see any F or J availability for the Australian legs - some economy availability.

I have no status with any of the airlines and I've read that that can affect what you can see wrt award availability. I'm wondering whether AAs OW partners have shut up shop on award bookings prior to 22 March. I would be happy to be proven wrong. :(

your status doesn't make a jot of difference to what award availability you are able to see. I am lowly bottom rung member with VA, QF, SQ, AA, EY etc but can see award seats when I log in.

I think it's just a case of the devaluation, thousands of people would have had a lot of miles to shed before the 22nd thus rendering award space hard to come by.

There is availability out there, I just had MLE-AUH-LHR on EY in J/F ticketed today, but it is definitely limited and getting lower by the day.

I will be using SQ PER-SIN-MLE so if you have Velocity points that may be an option for you.
