Booked my first First/Suite Saver return SYD SIN HKG next year for Mrs Hammando and I to watch my cousin play in the Rugby 7's.

First Savers on the way up and then Suite Savers on the way home.

Its going to be a long wait to March next year, hopefully I can convince her to go somewhere else in the mean time.

Love it Hammando - I can feel your excitement in your post - Suites truly are a fabulous experience.

Does Mrs Ham know she will be traveling Suites? Cruiserette will be experiencing Suites for 1st time also June 19 - but at this point in time she thinks she is in F and has no idea she will be confronted by a Suite when we board in SYD.

My assessment would be similar - good for a meal / drink / short relax, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to spend more than an hour or two.

Personally, it reminded me of The Wing (or is it The Pier? the new CX F Lounge in HKG anyway) - nice lounge, but no QF SYD/MEL F Lounge or TG BKK F Lounge.

Interesting that SYD QF F lounge is better than TPR. Sounds like TPR is a glorified restaurant? I think I will try it once but just not sure if I will last that long in TPR. Sometimes I prefer to just go out to town but with 5:30 transit, the trip to city would be short if I decide to spend sometime in TPR.

Anyway (OT), it looks like I will finally try out the QF F lounge as I will be flying on SYD-NRT JL J (I am BAEC Gold). Unfortunately the flight take off at 8:15am so I am not really sure if I can take full advantage of QF F lounge. I tried to look for QF21 for evening departure but no AA award availability. Let's see how it compares to SIN SilverKris lounge + TPR.

Talking about excitement my niece who just turned 15 has a school holiday A380 Suites run coming up to go SIN- LHR-SIN.
It has been made interesting by us not wanting to tell her school friends that this is possible. She loved it last year.

She does. At the moment she's not that excited, but it might be because i'm flying to VA j to Vegas this morning with a bunch of mates.

Actually i'm almost certain thats it.

Interesting that SYD QF F lounge is better than TPR.

I can't comment on the comparative quality of the resturant / booze offerings as I didn't actually have a chance to eat at TPR (not to mention I'd just come off two consecutive R flights, so I was stuffed to overflowing already!), but to my mind the QF F Lounge wins in ambience / decor, and for the simple fact that it has the F spa.

Sounds like TPR is a glorified restaurant?

Resturant + "lounge" (fairly large seating area filled with big, comfy chairs) + showers.

I think I will try it once but just not sure if I will last that long in TPR.

Definitely try it. We're all ragging on it a bit, but only in contrast to some of the best F lounges in the world - it's still very nice, and well worth a visit.

Enjoy :-) You're correct that a 8.15am departure will probably hinder your ability to fully enjoy the experience, but you can still get plenty of time in there if you're prepared to get up early (lounge opens at 5.00am according to the QF website). If you've never been before I'd probably aim for at least two hours, even if that does mean starting the journey tired. Not sure what time the spa opens though.

Agree. :)

The advantages include the fact that (on the basis of only two visits, I should add) it is extremely quiet and not at all crowded. One of those two visits was an extended stay of several hours, and at no time were there more than a handful of people in a space that would have adequately catered for a much larger number.

On that longer visit, I was not feeling well but had said nothing to any of the staff. Unprompted, they brought throw rugs and pillows to me, offered broth and herbal teas, and were both helpful and non-intrusive.

Most impressive service. :)

The earlier visit was long enough to enjoy a meal and both food and service were excellent. Again, very quiet and relaxing. Certainly worth trying out for yourself.

Agree, too, that the QF F Lounge amenities, especially the spa, outweigh most alternatives, though. :)
(Spa treatments are available outside the SQ lounge, of course, but not complementary, as far as I am aware.)

AFF folk - Cruiserette and myself have 2 x Suite Savers dep SYD SQ222 at 15:15 on 19/06 to SIN then F SIN-BCN.

At time of booking no 2 x Suite Saver availability ex MEL hence SYD booking – but now need to get from MEL to SYD morn 19/06.

Will be flying VA and then need to get to SQ F Lounge so what time would you good people suggest arr into SYD?

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks guys for your input - maybe I wasn't too clear.

It’s been like an eternity since I transferred SYD Dom to Int (MEL has a civilized terminal with both under 1 roof) – and Rita my SQ MEL g/f would kill me if I didn’t go make myself known to her SYD counterpart.

Yes legroom won’t be looking for eternity in SYD SQ F – maybe 1 hour max pre boarding – is that clearer?

Did you ever get an answer on this?

IMHO the Sydney lounge is very average, so I wouldn't rush to spend any time there. I would pad with enough time to make sure you make the flight, but I wouldn't press for much lounge time. Lets just say I would board when boarding is called...

The DOM -> INT transfer in SYD is a series of "simple" steps, but it can be painfully slow. As soon as one thing goes wrong (delayed inbound, someone walks slow, just miss the bus / train, pick the wrong security line, etc, etc) you can suddenly lose 30 mins (or more!).

  • Arrive on your inbound flight (hopefully on time...)
  • Collect bags and exit the domestic terminal (checked bags slow this down)
  • Get to the international terminal (via bus or train normally)
  • Check-In
  • Clear Immigration & Security
  • Go to the lounge
  • Go to gate / board (remember SQ board early)

On a good day with hand carry only, this exercise can take mere minutes
On a bad day, it could easily take an hour (or more!)

I am always reluctant to say a number because it could prove to be wrong on the day, but I would usually allow at least a couple of hours (before departure time) just to be safe. Remember, a 15:15 SQ flight would normally commence boarding sometime between 14:15 and 14:30. Add some lounge time, the terminal transfer, and contingency to the equation, I would suggest you probably want to be on the ground by 13:00 at the latest. (That is, 2 hrs, 15 mins before your flight. You could easily spin this out to the recommended 2.5 - 3hrs if you are worried).

Of course, there are stories of ~10-15 minute runs from an aircraft at the gate in T2 or T3 to the airside QF F lounge in T1, but that relys on absolutely everything going to plan (and in these cases, the departing flight is usually many hours away!!).

Not sure I understand what you are trying to say here?

However 15 year old females are addicted to Facebook, and nothing is private.

Never thought about Facebook.
I hope it never catches on!
Facebook is blocked at our office together with job search sites except for managers.
Cruiser Elite is getting closer to having Mrscruiser on board in Suites. I hope she is impressed.
Mrscove thinks it is really good and she doesn't drink alcohol so yes it must be great.
Now I am thinking about caviar with the scrambled egg breakfast.

OT but blocking Facebook and Job sites is hardly worlds best practice, most organisations now allow FB access during breaks such as lunchtime knowing if its totally banned the mobile is used anyway. Blocking job sites mean your denying yourself vital HR info on staff that are not happy where they work, very useful info in the bigger productivity picture. I am guessing you have an increasing BYOD (bring your own device) issue in the workforce, which negates any controls put in place while introducing threats that should not be there from a productivity/intellectual property perspective in the first place?

Thanks for the wishes cove - I am sure she will LOVE it.

At the point in time Cruiserette does not know she will be in Suite – she thinks it is just F – in fact I don’t think she even knows what SQ Suites are.

She is a great partner to fly with – Yes she loves champers – but she needs to take a chip of a Quell or something similar or else very bad pax – after the Quell and a champers or 2 she goes out like a light and can sleep for 10 hours without moving – PERFECT.

+1000 on this. I'm the person who gets to make these decisions at my workplace - we don't block anything, and just do some monitoring in the background. "Trust but verify" - works well as a general motto in life, and doubly so in the workplace. While I've never actually "tested" the alternative, I can't see how it couldn't be anything but worse - you lose very useful insights gained from a little monitoring, and it's bad for employee morale / satisfaction.

We haven't found value in Facebook nor Twitter so far. We use You Tube so smart phones can get our product info quickly.

Since I closed my Citi Kris points warehouse I really have to get a wriggle on to use those points in 3 years and about 9 months. And no I won't restart a Citi warehouse for Kris points. I had all this years bookings for SQ done by the time I closed the points warehouse .

So I am booking F Savers MEL-PEK/PVG for Mar and Apr 2014 - 3 flts daily ex MEL with F - only Suite Saver on 380 showing available with o/n in SIN - F Savers on 77W and 773 currently showing not available - go figure - again 1st world problem - I still have to pinch myself very time I book these.

So Cruiserette had her 1st taste of Suites SYD-SIN on June 19 - 1st time in 22yrs I have known her where she was speechless - it's a beautiful thing. She knew we were in F hence the need to dep SYD and not MEL (could not secure 2 x Suite Savers ex MEL) - but confronting her Suite the first time just flawed her - it was a wonderful experience.

I coughed up the pts SYD-BCN in F o/b - she secured J i/b CDG-SIN-MEL. Jeez what a big difference - extra pts for F well worth it you can stretch that far.

Already booked 2 x Suite Savers MEL-SIN-LHR for June next year - have MEL-ZRH ret booked for late Aug for myself - still have to pinch myself that an old broken down cow coughy can get to experience this sensational product.

Good idea to get all your F Suite A380 flights in before SQ changes the Suites to their newly released F product which IMO is no Suite (more like CX F Seat IMO). Unless they release a different F product for the A380, though the new J Class product sure looks nicer than the J Seat currently on the A380.

I read that the suite's are staying put, plus would be a massive effort to re-fit when they don't need to be.

Looking at the new J... looks very nice and not much different to F.
