Surely it is now now time to change lounge access rules

Clearly, the only way forward is for all users of the F lounge to wear badges, and be served accordingly.

F's:
UNLIKE YOU STATUS coughS, I ACTUALLY PAID TO GET IN HERE TODAY.

P1's:
I FLY MORE MILES THAN ANYONE IN HERE. BOW BEFORE ME.

WP's:
I'M JUST HAPPY TO BE HERE.

CL's:
COMPARED TO WHAT I'M USED TO, THIS PLACE IS NOTHING.

You forgot:

Everyone else:
I'M JUST HAPPY THAT I KNOW SOMEONE WHO GUESTED ME IN.

Sadly that's what I normally am...

What about self-upgraders? :p:p:p

You mean the people who simply smile and walk in at the right time (yes it does happen, my friend did it at PER QP)? I thought that was the role of the door man downstairs to stop that from happening. Can't speak for MEL, but in SYD you'd have to really pick your timings.

It was a cheap shot at a certian AFFer who has been known to sit down in row 1 despite having a boarding pass for row 40 something :P:P

As for following someone into a lounge, I have no doubt that this happens from time to time. I'm surprised more people don't wander into the MEL CL by mistake as it is straight ahead at the top of the escalators, and you need to do a 'U'-turn to get into the QP and then the J Lounge.

My BP is always checked entering the F lounge in SYD... probably just time to give advance warning to the lounge to crack open the champers...

They do tend to be stricter with International lounges, especially the F lounge... They need to prepare your personal ice bucket you see ;)

I think Feper was suggesting a "more exclusive" lounge over and above the current F lounge. I agree post one in this thread was not the best start but his argument evolved to the creation of an additional lounge. Is this reasonable? Personally I'm not sure. It seems QF would have to maintain the F lounge name for it's WP's here on AFF, as we have seen in this thread - The WP's are revolting!! :p

I don't have an answer, but I am strongly opposed to the double SC offers, although I understand the commercial reasoning behind them. So I think Feper and I are not that far apart in what we are looking for. So I guess it is only a matter of time before I get to experience the wrath of the AFF WP's!!!:(

Incidentally the SIN F lounge on Saturday was a standing room only zoo....for some. (Whilst QF doesn't have it's own lounge in FRA the JAL F lounge is a bizarre example of two post WWII industrial giants combining to create a third world experience!!)

I tend to fly DJ J domestically so whilst it is a benefit it is not one that resonates greatly with me. (I do occasionally get to fly Y so I do accept that it is not a bad benefit for many.)

I agree with Feper in his idea that a proper First lounge needs to be created, new and separate to the current First lounge, or a lounge within a lounge concept, however I disagree with him that a proper lounge would get access based on extremely high status. Then it's technically not a proper lounge anymore, and just a dream for him.

Ideally internationally you'd have:

  • Business Lounge
    • J pax, F pax
    • QP, SG, WP, P1, CL, CLP1
  • First Lounge
    • F pax
    • WP, P1, CL, CLP1
  • First Room
    • F pax

If anything, beyond that you might give CL members access as they're not an earned tier, but just someone you'd like to look after. But I'm sorry, just because you fly a whole lot, but aren't important enough to be given CL membership, doesn't entitle you to be in the "First Room".

I don't fly Mainline much, but when I do I'm almost always in the front row of Y. The most recent time when I wasn't was when I was upgraded. That said, I can't preselect like you can :(

Well, Qantas already only operates five lounges at each of MEL and SYD, way too few! :p

Seriously, how many lounges do we really think they should have? What possible benefits could a new 'real' F lounge have over the existing ones for those eligible to use it - private lap dances?

I believe if F lounge overcrowding was a perennial and serious problem (and, SIN and LAX aside - which are being 'fixed' one way or another - I haven't seen or heard of this occurring) then QF would know and remedy the problem. I don't think the very occasional short wait for a dining table or a shower is going to rate a serious mention in anyone's autobiography.

Ah fair enough, and here I was thinking there was some sort of backdoor for the F-Lounge.

Precisely why I labeled it an F Room, per flight there's a maximum of 15 travelling First, so the space required isn't huge. Think of it like the BNE F Box, a private area where you could dine separate to the great unwashed, seeing as that term is being used a lot.

The lounge wouldn't offer anything more than the current F lounge, other than a private space for those guests, and space to sit for those guests if the regular spots are full.

Just like the F lounge being on top of the J lounge, the F Room could be up one more level. Okay, the last bit was a joke :p

Boy, I'm enjoying this thread!! 250 replies in 5 days and all that emotion.
It seems to be a difference of perceived rights between paid F flyers and WP imposters. My calculations tell me that any traveller could maintain WP and thus access to F lounges, with 10 economy flights to London per year. Personally, I don't know how anyone could sit in the F lounge and then suffer the ignominy of slinking off to the lower deck and turning R as you board. For me, I can hold my head high when I fly, knowing I have paid for the F/J flight with my hard earned points.

There are also people like me......4 years of weekly Jetflex flying MCY-SYD-MCY got me into the Flounge.....there is no harder RH turn than that!

Sorry to break it to you but as a scum platinum my free upgrades have gone through the roof in the last 12 months as well. Your comment about no issue changing flights is very interesting.
Well you are doing a lot better than most on the upgrades front.

I haven't done too badly with changing flights this year but that depends on the person I am dealing with on the day.

My upgrades are coming off a low base and there were some special factors involved about 10 months ago. ;)

Changing flights on the other hand have really seemed to have become much more successful. No obvious weather issues to indicate flow forward but I've got moved for the last 3 or 4 consecutive QF flights from SYD.
