Surprise! You've turned Gold!

When I first received the message I was a little skeptical, but thought if genuine maybe it's partially in compensation for all the stuff-ups I've had with them lately... and then it turns out to be another one!

I got the same upgrade email tooo ..... then another email a couple of hours later that retracts that initial email:

Hi Alan
Oops! Due to an error you've received our previous email by mistake. Please disregard the free upgrade communication as unfortunately you do not qualify for that upgrade.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Warm regards,
The Velocity Team

a very nice Friday the 13th prank i'd say esp. if i had made some non-ref bookings in those two hours

"Some members"? I, having flown DJ once in the last two years, got the Upgrade email, as did my parents (they've flown DJ maybe three times in the same period). From the thread here, it looks like everyone with a valid email address got the message. BIG error!

Thought the "Oooops" email was a bit flippant. (Hope that approach doesn't extend to the rest of their operations in the future: "Welcome to the lovely Gold Coast. Just one little thing, though. We've sent your luggage on a little trip to Tassie. Ooops! Just as well it's nice and warm here; don't need to wear much.")

DJ should never have hired that new 'Computer' expert:

A week, maybe, ago, Crazydave said he was working on something about gold membership and then the email came. Allelujuh, for a while anyway, the airways were paved with gold.

Maybe something is coming but the wrong button was pushed????

Maybe they hired the Amex people?

Anyway, I'm glad I didn't push the 'pay' button for 13800 points and $425 on V for the same trip Jetstar just wanted $450'ish for.

I'll do well over 300,000 MILES on UA alone this year.

These gooses should mail out a few Lounge passes as a PR move to those who bother to contact them. 99% will not bother of course.

I'm surprised some people are getting quite worked up about this. I never expected the Gold status and was surprised when I got it.
Easy come, easy go. It's not like I was actually entitled to it. They're only human after all, stuff ups happen.

I'm actually glad it was a mistake - I was so annoyed the girls at work had "reached Gold", when I easily spend five times as much as them on DJ a year, and still on Red (and never got the email).

Not a very good look though for DJ.

Now does anyone have Sir richards email address?Mrsdrron has decided she is really upset with him, promising her the world and then pulling the rug from underneath her.:p.She really would like to give him a piece of her mind .Sir Richard I advise hiding ;).

The lass who won the 25m points got a call from Sir Richard and she kept his number:D Can she post it here?

Re: I got given an upgrade to gold on Virgin... And have done no flying with them for

The best thing about being 'dumped' from V's gold is now finding UA's sub $300 fares for Hawaii to Denver. Hawaii's quite nice apparently, and more stable than Fiji.

My dad and I were so excited when we received complimentary Velocity Gold membership for next year. For a couple of hours Virgin were going to get a fair chunk of my travel next year. Not anymore. I thought I was special. Extremely disappointing....

And now i'll start the conspiracy's. Think that this could just be a viral promotion to tell more people what Gold status offers customers?!
What does Velocity Gold really offer? It costs AUD9,000 spend per year to get Gold status and access to lounges in a few cities in Australia. Why bother? I can maintain QF Platinum status for ~AUD2000 per year and have anytime domestic lounge access regardless of whether I am flying QF, JQ, TT, DJ or anyother carrier....

I don't know what you lot are complaining about. At least you got complimentary gold for a few hours!

All I got was the retraction email. :(

They didn't even bother to give me the free upgrade before taking it away.

Lol, does that mean they've downgraded you below Red?

I also can't see the fuss and "distress" caused. Most people who are kicking up the biggest stink are those who fly Virgin Blue rarely. (Not just on here, but many other forums I visit).

Did they read:
Given you came so close to making it on your own, we wanted to say thanks so much for your ongoing commitment to the Virgin Blue Group

and go - Oooh, yes I did. I definitely, definitely did.

Ditto here...who cares anyway; I rarely fly DJ, if ever...

We also note that you have elected to opt out of Velocity Communications. Please accept our sincere apologies for sending these emails to you without your consent. Unfortunately the email was extended to our entire database by mistake.

I was so glad to get the Surprise! e-mail I had forgotten that I had opted out. Just shows that some communications can be welcome
