Surprise! You've turned Gold!

Received email 5.41 p.m. ýou've turned gold then at 9.18 another email oops due to an error etc. No gold for me.

I got the email, much to my surprise.
Thought that it might make the 2-3 flights a year on DJ a bit more comfortable.
I had a chat to Lindsey about it and thought it was strange.
Would I change my flying habits.
Nup.
Am I bothered by the retraction.
Nup.

Easy come, easy go.

My wife is a Gold velocity member. If we fly DJ we can get in via her membership.

I am sticking to the red rat.

Did they read:

and go - Oooh, yes I did. I definitely, definitely did.

Yep.

I figured the upgrade was because

- V's passengers stink: we arrive 12-13 hours later than ticketed.

- Crazydave96 said there was something coming to reward regular passengers;

- by the anniversary of joining, each in our family missed being bumped to silver. I figured that, if we hadn't been zero'd back to red, we might've been gold.

- a family's regular holiday flights is paid by dad. I figured V wanted dad to take more than 1 of the brood into a lounge to wait for our flight out;

- we were mucked around with the Mel-LA route so a lounge would be nice.

- maybe this was tied up with getting us on Delta or Virginamerica. After a long flight to LA, it'd be nice to lounge around before jetting off.

- V might know my tickets include Jetstar-Pacificblue and AirNZ-Virginblue combos thru bestflights. Maybe they wanted me to not fly with others.

I don't know what you lot are complaining about. At least you got complimentary gold for a few hours!

All I got was the retraction email. :(

They didn't even bother to give me the free upgrade before taking it away.
Same here. Retraction email only
Who ever stuffed up first time stuffed up again sending out a "retraction" email to people who never got the gold email

But then again its only IT people. Where I work the IT goons succesfullly removed Micrsoft word & excel from 100's of computers. So we all stopped work for the day.

Re: I got given an upgrade to gold on Virgin... And have done no flying with them for

Hi all,

I got given a bump to Velocity gold, even though I've done no flying with them for a LONG time... (3yrs) :S

Does this make sense to anyone?

I got the same email after being a velocity member for all of 3 weeks. Click the link to the website in the email and it will take you to a page that says the offers were made in error. Bummer.:(

The Virgin Blue Velocity page has the following disclaimer at the top of it:

Oops! Due to an error, you may have received an email regarding a Gold upgrade by mistake. Please disregard the free upgrade communication.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

What are the benefits of Velocity Gold?

This has significant implications for corporate communications in a number of fields:

And now i'll start the conspiracy's. Think that this could just be a viral promotion to tell more people what Gold status offers customers?!

Coming out on a Friday night, I would be more inclined to go with disaffected employee than viral marketing.

It does read like a genuine promotion, though. Just went a little overboard in deciding who to offer it to.

But then again its only IT people. Where I work the IT goons succesfullly removed Micrsoft word & excel from 100's of computers. So we all stopped work for the day.

Of course, people in other industries never make mistakes do they?

Latest tweet from VirginBlue: "We're truly sorry for the confusion caused by the Gold status email & working on figuring out what went wrong. Thanks for your understanding"

Someone's copping a bit, obviously!

i gave em a bit of a tease on twitter this morning after that tweet.

Truth be told, I don't get why people feel priveledged to get Gold Status if they haven't even flown them in years etc.

I would love a lounge pass (mainly cause im flying DJ for work on friday at an ungodly hour and id like to be able to sit somewhere comfortable) but i know its not gonna happen.

PNG's wonderful IT system meant Mrs Pineapple got the upgrade email and retraction. I just got the retraction.

Reminds me how one month Ansett sent me a statement telling me I had 400,000 global rewards points, next month they went west along with my diamond status. I did miss that status.

Cheers skip

Well complain to Velocity Rewards/Virgin Blue then. It will achieve nothing (probably) but will help validate your claim.

What's complaing got to do with anything? You asked if recipients might believe they'd get a comp upgrade and I explained why Crazydave's tip off on 777's thread + my travels suggested maybe I was upgraded.

Care to share how you're doing that? Unless you're getting 10SC red e-deals for less than $20 each I can't see how :)
Try the YUP/KUP runs in the USA. You can probably get QF Platinum status for less than AUD2000.

But then again its only IT people. Where I work the IT goons succesfullly removed Micrsoft word & excel from 100's of computers. So we all stopped work for the day.
They aree not real IT people anyway.

Not much I wouldn't think. We're dealing with the underdog here, not the tall poppy :)

Exactly, if it ain't the roo flush it down the loo is nonews' motto,

I'm sure if they tried though they could find an angle that Qantas is responsible for this mess - Qantas probably hacked DJ's IT and did it themselves!

So where is crazydave and helping out ppl here with free gold memberships....;) perhaps he was the one at the centre of it all and has been walked out of the Village.... No more Friday BBQ's for you!!

I've been reading a bit about this in other places, and it seems many people are "outraged" and are demanding compensation. Why? They are no worse off than before they received their upgrade. There are always people who blow issues out of proportion, and make a big deal out of nothing. Mistakes do happen, though this is a fairly big mistake.
