Surprise! You've turned Gold!

:( and I thought I would now be flying VB instead of QF on some of the sectors. Now to wait for the retraction letter.

I just got the email too -- except that i was ALREADY gold til dec 2010.

I had 92,000 status credits with DJ (nearly DOUBLE gold) when they rolled over a week or two again. If you've all been upgraded to gold, i'm seriously going to never fly DJ again as a matter of principle.

777.

Another Gold here. Have done about 4 flights in the past 12 months so I'm a regular.

Funny it happened on the same day my Silver pack arrived from Qantas! I thought Virgin must have been watching my mail!

That was my thought too - even contemplated a shift of a couple of US flights to VA Business (although the pull of the FLounge is strong). Pretty much, a status match would be precisely what they need to do to get me to fly DJ or VA.

Oh well, guess it was too good to be true

Well, i got it too. And i've never taken a flight on DJ (although i do have some velocity points via their store).

Shame, probably would have given them a go when travelling on my own - with free lounge access, bonus points and extra luggage.

Oh well, more red roo for me.

LOL - maybe they took Alan Joyce's "Lost World Carrier" comment seriously. Upgrading every single Velocity member would certainly be a product enhancement. The lounges might need a "slight" extension in size though.

+1 more here.
OVer 3 yrs I think I have bonus pts from the Credit Card signup, a SYD-OOL return and some bonus points from an electronics store partnership.

Man is the Lounge going to be full next year !!!

Same - well, almost. I last took a flight on DJ back in 2003.

I thought it might have been an attempt to win business away from QF with a status match (I signed up a few months ago, and they do ask what your QF status is), but this thread makes me think otherwise :)

Very surprised considering that I haven't flown on DJ for 2+ yrs and I dont credit EK or MH flights.

Be interesting to see how DJ get out of this hole!:)

Yep, twitter is abuzz with people being upgraded who have only flown with them once. Probably one the biggest coughkups in Australian customer relations history.

Wonderful, got all excited when I got the e-mail... even asked Bundy Bear to print it out as I won't have access to my NSW postal address to retrieve the Gold Card before my next flight to Perth.

It would be good if its true... I have a carry-on I must check in as I'm traveling with a backpack and a laptop to Perth, Darwin and Melbourne.

Sucks that everyone is expecting a retraction.

Yep.. another here...

Pity... my first words to +1 was "I have to travel Virgin now"

Having QC (and now AA Plat) makes VB un-competitive for me... unless there is a massive difference in price

I loved the "Given you came so close to making it on your own" in the email! ;)

Will be interested to see how they get themselves out of this mess

Jeff

A free upgrade to Velocity Gold?

I'm a current QF Gold Frequent Flyer - was Silver on velocity but reduced back to Bronze last year as I never fly Virgin. However, just received this:

We’ve got a treat for you - a free upgrade to Velocity Gold! Given you came so close to making it on your own, we wanted to say thanks so much for your ongoing commitment to the Virgin Blue Group, we really love having you around.

It seems to include lounge membership, additional baggage etc... I'm not complaining but haven't flown Virgin at all this year so it looks like someone's poaching here. Could/should Virgin know who's Gold with Qantas?

Haha this is great. I do hope they keep it but not expecting it now.

I suppose it wouldn't be that disadvantageous for them to keep it, as was said earlier, for non-flyers it's just the price of a few bagtags.

But yeah, crazydave and co will be on the warpath for the poor sod manning the e-mail system :p

Another me too. Here I was thinking only Amex make stuff ups this large. Doesn't really help me, except I'll be flying Pacific Blue AKL-ZQN next month. Shame there are no lounges in NZ.
