Sydney airport Baggage system outage

This morning at SYD Term 3 at 8.30am the bag drops aren't working and each piece is being individually checked.

Security line invigilators were having everyone weigh their carry on. 10kg max strictly enforced. I had go through the charade of moving some papers out of my carry on to my briefcase.

I think that’s unrelated to the baggage outage, QF at SYD seems to be really cracking down on carry on - one up one down signs everywhere (including in the lounge) and staff tagging second bags to ensure they’re not placed in the overhead lockers.

Which would only mean anything, if the crew onboard went through the overhead lockers checking for tags, which I'm sure they don't given they have better things to be doing. But does raise some interesting scenarios:
  • Passengers just removing said tags themselves
  • Passengers moving other passengers (tagged) bags out of the lockers if there's no room

Including business?

On my flight last week they weren't checking boarding passes, so I would say yes. The QF policy is the same in all cabins (and they had advertisements in the J lounge about the 1 up 1 down policy).

QF has the same allowance for Y & J.

If it's a full flight and they are at the point of checking carry on (as my flight was), the staff were definitely monitoring the lockers. At one point they told the gate to check all future bags.

Yep. Second time in as many weeks I've been weight-invigilated at SYD.

In the security line?
And if I said I am only here for the lounge for JQ reasons etc?
