Sydney lounge not fully open until March 2013

Amazing how a comment about getting Peroni on tap branches out.

Branches out??? A lounge thread is not complete until the obligatory beer stouch......and I looove a good beer stouch. Throw in some jelly and scantily clad ladies and...........oh, I guess now I am OT. Perhaps VA should can the meeting rooms and the kids area idea and install a jelly wrestling pit. The CL almost had it with Hawkies ladies (just minus the jelly), so here's a chance for VA to better them at last! Now that'd have to be a drawcard!

Considering my vague recollections of the night I had 4 litres of Salvator* I certainly won't want it served in the luggage.

* bouncing on a bench, annoying an Italian bloke, trying school boy German on a lady, getting off a tram, and waking up completely nude at 3 am.

waking up completely nude at 3 am.

Of course that kind of behaviour is only acceptable if you were completely nude, in a completely public place, completely making a fool of yourself and completely finding your unflattering photo in the local rag the next morning.......otherwise it's just a total waste of effort on your behalf! ;)

Oh, and I'm far too mature to condone such irreverent behaviour!

SYD downstairs is surely going to be noisy with that many reflective surfaces? Or are the floor tiles something special?

Most of the walls are covered is a soft spongy feeling material that is clearly intended to soak up the noise. Also, the seating areas are all carpeted. It's surprisingly not noisy... Even when full (as it was later in my stay, around 1-2pm)

I guess I should have actually checked AFF while I was there... Fwiw, the lady in the white jacket in the third picture. That's my mum on our way back home from AKL.

Could someone post a photo of the tap and the glasses the Peroni is served in? Unfortunately I won't be in the SYD lounge for a couple of weeks.

Sitting in the sydney lounge right now and quiet disappointed. The upstairs lounge is closed and with all the remodelling downstairs there's hardly a seat to be had. The reasoning I was told is that at weekends the upstairs will be closed due to it being quieter, firstly that may be a valid reason when the lounge downstairs is completed but right now it's at capacity plus there's hardly a window in sight except those looking out at air conditioning ducting. This is supposed to be VA flagship lounge and I actually came out to the airport early from the city to relax a bit in the lounge. I know company's try to save costs etc but if this means when I fly at weekends I can expect certain VA services to be unavailable I think this is a big downgrade. I fly every week like Many for work and don't really care too much about the lounges except to have a coffee and sambo pre flight but at weekends it's nice when you have the time to make the most of the lounge. Right that's just my thought anyways on this, not sure if Qf would close up their lounge in such a way.

But to be fair also chap serving coffee is very nice and friendly so at least that's good, but with one barista machine for the whole lounge he's under pressure.

would others here be happy if VA close certain facilities / services at weekends.

I tend to agree with you. Was in the VA lounge last Sunday, barely any seats downstairs, and upstairs was closed!

I find this really odd. I was there on the 7th April, which was a Sunday, and the Angels recommended I go upstairs because the lower area was really full. There were probably about 25 pax upstairs when I was there, and it was really relaxing and quiet.

Very disappointing if this is going to be the norm.

I actually like the upstairs row of seating with the direct window view. I thought it works well for single travelers and couples. Wouldn't work for groups wanting to chat. Friday afternoon, it was packed downstairs but still plenty of great seating upstairs..........shhh, don't tell anyone it's there!

Love upstairs for chilling out and watching the various international airlines.

Was in the Lounge at the same time. The AFL players were then moved upstairs to make some space. I'm under the impression that this happens on occasion - they get their own area upstairs to free up space or in general just to get on their own. But this mightn't be the case. Generally speaking, of a Sunday morning, I've had access to upstairs.

I was in there on a Sunday evening not too long ago (a month maybe?). I was allowed upstairs upon arrival around 6pm but when I went to leave around 8pm there was a rope blocking the entrance.

The longe had upstairs closed this morning around 10am and was quite crowded- it got worse when the Fremantle Dockers arrived.

Back this evening and upstairs is still closed.

Most areas jam packed, but I found an oasis near the premium security entrance - 30 chair and there's six occupied while the rest of the lounge is really crowded.

Had exactly the same experience sunday 2 weeks ago, i think its poor that as a weekend customer you dont get to enjoy all the facilities of the Sydney lounge, its quiet stuffy in there with the area upstairs closed.

Same experience there last Saturday, down stairs full, upstairs closed - asked at desk and was basically told bad luck, could certainly have improved the comms (extremely unpleasant person beind the desk)........

What happened to the rumoured Platinum Lounge for Sydney? Wasn't upstairs eventually meant to become the business/platinum only area?
