Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

We flew out 5th Jan, downstairs still open and was told upstairs was closed. Gentleman on the desk suggested they were having some problems with the new section upstairs and we could be using the "old" downstairs for some time. Anybody heard different?

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

Thats a pity, will be through sydney for a weekend trip in the coming weeks and was hoping to check out the upstairs lounge. Im probably different to allot of people but for me one of the things i like the most in a lounge is the view of the runway and planes. Its why I like the mel lounge but have no real interest in the Brisbane one.

I flew out on Boxing Day and the new section upstairs was closed, but wasn't told anything beyond that by the lounge staff.

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

I was informed on 2 Jan that upstairs was presently just an 'overflow' space. There appeared to be a suggestion that half of downstairs will be closed off for renovation at some point, which is where the overflow scenario will come in - there simply won't be enough room downstairs during busy times. Longer term, the upstairs will become a Platinum space. I was told all this by one of the younger VA staff at reception (no age discrimination in that comment, mind).

I do enjoy watching the virgin valet park my car though... LOL

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

The SYD VA lounge is quite user friendly with zoned areas & several food stations & bars, with a desirable view toward the runway.
It is light & friendly with plenty of staff & some pleasing canapé offerings.
The best part is the new area upstairs which has even better views & is much quieter with only 4 guests at 6pm, albeit it's Wednesday.
I'm satisfied to give this lounge an 8.5/10 rating. :D

Currently the upper "Cafeteria with a view" is open and the northern half the lower lounge is closed off inclusing the western bar area except for access to the premium entry.

A temporary bar and barista has been set up in the remaining North West area remaining lower area.

Re: Virgin opens "The Club" at SYD

Been away for a while, transferring in SYD via VA. 'Upstairs' lounge available for general use. A number of staff in there, re-arranging chairs, so maybe not opened for long?

Not many people in there; didn't seem that well laid out for biz types (ie no desks or benches with power etc).

I quickly retreated to downstairs to escape the loud TVs with mindless Sunday morning programming blaring out (1 x US, 1 x Oz).

Re: Virgin opens "The Club" at SYD

Noticed how so much of downstairs was closed off today and they've cut down the breakfast offerings - no pancakes anyway. I couldn't get my own tea - it's all now in the hands of the baristas who, let's face it, generally wouldn't know tea from Bonox. Went for something more pretentious instead.

Saw the pop up sign saying the upstairs lounge was open so I headed up and found a large, very cold (A/C works) almost empty room with a home shopping channel on the big screen pushing exercise gear (what else?) They had QF's pancake machine so I pressed OK and headed in to inspect the toilet/showers. Not bad but not enough cubicles. It seems that every bloke needs a dump before a flight (getting up too early?) and you often have to wait in any lounge. I left because I had my stuff downstairs still but it was as though no one was game to come upstairs or they didn't know it was there. Two baristas standing around, downstairs they were run off their feet.

How long before they make it J/WP only I wonder?

Is there any new information on this at all?

Re: Virgin opens "The Club" at SYD

Even more of the lounge is now closed off including the bar/coffee area.
There is a coffee cart, and a very small bar.

:(. I'm there Tuesday and dependant upon the amount of work I have to do, I may be hanging around in the lounge for a number of hours. Doesn't sound like much fun to me right now.

The south-west corner and elevated area (including the computer / work areas) have been operating normally.

In reality, when the upper area is taken into account the overall space is about the same as this time last year.

It should be much better when completed.

Hopefully if I finish work early, there'll be fly ahead available, but good to know, thanks.

IME, upstairs is a quiet oasis compared with the zoo downstairs.
I'm flying in on Tuesday, scheduled to land at 1800... but I may be able to fly ahead.
Be good to catch up if you are still there?

Re: Sydney lounge not fully open until March 2013.

The last lounge attendant I asked a couple of weeks ago said it was going to be like this for another 6 months! Surely not.

Re: Sydney lounge not fully open until March 2013.

I've been here for about an hour.

Upstairs is lovely, although it's very obvious where "The Club" is :)

Where is the entrance to the club?
