Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

Looks like it's just a standard gate lounge for 46-48 on the top level then (with stairs down to the aerobridge)? What a waste of a premium space... best location/views in the terminal go to (non status/membership) economy passengers!

The gates look very well designed with cut outs for the barcode scanners and other tech equipment. I love the smooth sculpted desks.

I love the look of those new flight display boards at the gates, although I can't help but feel I should be shouting my order for a cheeseburger and fries into them.

Am I the only one that thinks they look like a fast food drive thru ordering thing?

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

Very interesting as I saw ground crew two weeks ago at MEL Gate 12 practicing docking aerobridge to a VAI 777. The Pit crew guys were being shown how to load containers etc....
normally ground handling of 777 is done by Menzies crew not VA crew at MEL.

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

What a pathetic, and boring looking lounge

Granted it's not finished yet though..

The EPIC fail of all proportions is the lack of AC power outlets

FAIL Virgin (again)

Its wireless power LOL, avoids the problem where hydro power causes water to drip out of the points.

By my rough estimate the floor space here is about 20% of the overall space in the lounge. Not sure it's a big deal if power points are well catered for elsewhere.

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

what a suprising comment.

So you like the lounge then ?
What makes this lounge so good as it was/is being talked up as the flagship lounge
What are your thoughts on the lack of powerpoints ?

MEL/CBR QF lounges have many many powerpoints near most of the seating....

MEL lounge manager this morning stated that their understanding is the upstairs area will have bench areas installed once downstairs is complete and some other minor changes, the thoughts of one or two on here seems correct that this is a case of providing max seating to offset downstairs closures. Internal rumours are that the transit lounge will have some form of comp beberages, e.g tea/coffee/ water/juice for guests awaiting transfer. Nice touch if it is true.
Though I do agree that it looks like a dentists waiting room. Though I'm never in a lounge long enough to worry as I try to make full use of fly ahead.

Which bit of "it isn't finished yet" are you struggling to follow?

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

Anyone remember the first Sydney Lounge (called the Blue Room wasn't it?)? Things have certainly moved on. I'm also giving them time until the full renovation is completed.

I continue to be amazed at how some people here only ever paint a negative picture and in lovestotravel's case put DJ down.

IF the finished product is as bad as you suggest then you comments are probably warranted, but until it is finished we won't know that unless you have some information that the rest of us are not privy to.

This is getting dull, seriously. You seem adamant that Virgin will not get your business in the future. That's fine, you've voted with your feet and made your point. Well done.

Why invest so much time and (negative) energy in slamming Virgin over and over?

And, may I ask, having made such sweeping and disparaging comments above, when did you experience this new section of the Lounge? Or are you making judgements from a few photos?

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

Was wondering the same thing...

In my view Virgin has done a good thing by providing a 'temporary' sort of lounge while it actually goes on refurnishing the entire lounge, which is certainly a better outcome then closing it completely during the building period.

So enough comments like 'oh but its too white and squishy'..... I'm still glad I can get free drinks and food and have somewhere to sit away from the main terminal area.

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

Quite impressed with the layout of Virgin's new gates that wasn't apparent from the facebook/flight.org photos I had posted earlier

They have essentially created a dedicated area for each gate and using a combination of inward facing seats, glass partitions and a white bench (with powerpoints) created a decent general boarding path (denoted with red signs and red carpet)(and my red arrow)

Priority Boarding from the white tiles (my purple arrow).
The Gate agent at the priority boarding side can also swap to serving general passengers.

Well done Virgin

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

Popped in today on arrival - seems ok to me. There's power by the tables by the stairs, and also on the leather lounges on the back wall.

One plus for me - cans of coke, rather than the horrible pre-mix stuff downstairs

Had to do some work so opted to come downstairs and sit on the big desks with power.

The girl on reception asked me what i thought, and said they were keen to get feedback - so I gave mine - suggest those others with an opinion do the same.

Is the Platinum only lounge I read about here off the cards now?

Re: Sydney VA Domestic Lounge Pictures

There is suspicion that once downstairs is renovated they might make upstairs Plat, but I think this is only a few people guessing.
Suspect we wont find out until closer to the renovation finishing date.

There also doesn't (at least yet) appear any easy way to get from the kerbside entry to the upper level.

It was closed off boxing day morning with only downstairs open, maybe I will check it out on the way home.
