I take 4 or 5 of the mints from the bowl at the QF lounge desks. Honestly cannot recall taking any other food/drink from the lounge (barring what is already inside me ;) ) though the 'one bottle of water' or 'one muffin' type approach doesn't bother me. Filling up bags and/or taking enough for an entire meal(s) is beyond the pale though.

I saw a (large) woman grab two entire jars of chips from the VA BNE lounge counter and waddle over to her 4 (large) friends where they sat and ate them with beer for the next 20 minutes. Couldn't believe my eyes. Suspect the whole group were well on the way to heart disease and diabetes but still quite shocked.
And no, VA lounge dragons did nothing!

"I once saw a guy fill up a sports drinks bottle with whisky from the BA lounge at Heathrow.
Smart move - filling up with electrolytes first before the alcohol consumption. Helps to stave the impending hangover. :)

But still wrong

They took both jars for themselves? That isn't just cheap (like pouring soup into a thermos), it's also incredibly inconsiderate.

Sometimes becomes very awkward for staff especailly of over some crisps. Glad I'm not working in a lounge.

But yes, perhaps staff could have retrieved one back.

Reading this makes me think I'm not taking enough !

Reality is I never take anything, even water as I can get that on the plane.

The only times I ever take anything is when travelling with the kids. Will occasionally grab fruit/ nuts/ rice crackers for them to eat on the plane.

In general I think there's a reasonably clear line between taking a piece of fruit or two and loading up a bag to take away but perhaps common sense is less common than we'd all like to think.

My thoughts exactly.

Next lounge visit I think I plan to take away.

I have taken away fruit and water, and I did once have a beer that was taken from a lounge that was drunk after the flight.

I have been known to take the odd magazine from a lounge if I'm halfway through it when my flight is called - but only if they don't have one of those stickers on it saying please leave me. And the odd bottle of Capi mineral water. Once I took a shortbread biscuit wrapped in a napkin but regretted it because it got squished in my bag and made a huge mess! Hubby does tend to take the odd tea bag or two if he's got a hotel stay coming up, but loading up a takeaway container, or a water bottle full of whiskey? That's just taking the P and leads to even more cost cutting and restrictions on the rest of us. I would hope those people would get caught and banned.

Service can be so flaky.
Even the Qantas 'Dragons' can make you wait especially if air traffic control queues you for an hour !

I must be an amateur! I sneaky pilfered a couple of the lovely cloth teabags from the SQ Krisflyer lounge and felt guilty about it. Well, until I left the lounge; then I felt like the great train robber!

And then we have the joys of secondary screening at the gate... I imagine that reduces the amount of items appropriated from the lounges.

If it fits in your pocket (or a bottle of water), go for it. If it's enough for a meal, well, didn't your mother teach you about sharing fairly?

Back to my happy wandering

Fred

Ok Ill draw the line at a piece of fruit or opened drink or sandwich but never ever takeaway containers.

I do take some of the towelettes from the J lounge as they are quite robust... - for the odd travel accident. Is this OK?

I pick up kit kat, 4 finger, from regional lounge. Without guilt. From hotel lounge, yoghurt to snack on in room.

I once did a similar thing as post #51.

I took a few homemade-type biscuits from the lounge and put them in my laptop bag (wrapped in paper napkins) to eat during the flight. At the departure gate security my laptop bag got instant attention from the sniffer dog. The dog handlers assumed I had some kind of unlawful substance in the bag. When it was inspected the only thing of interest were a few crushed biscuits.

It took ages to clean the crumbs for the laptop bag.

I won't do that again.

They always have such huge piles of them to hand that I tend to take some extras as they're perfect for cleaning up my clumsy spills etc when travelling.

Sadly it seems many had the same idea as a couple of years back they 'enhanced' them down in thickness by half!

I have been guilty of taking like post #55 towelettes for the odd accident.
Oh and liquorice 2-3 pieces only.
Probably a little evil so will stop doing unless they are giveaways. ( like Lindt chocolate balls)

They are great towelettes. Doesn't everyone take some of these?
