Take away food from lounge

I don't think I've seen any towelettes. Where are they located?

I assume theyre referring to the hand-drying towels found in the bathrooms...

Oh, ok. I was picturing the tear open moistened towelettes for some reason

I think of those in the bathrooms as paper towel

One of those Texta / Nikko occasions

What about the EK F suite.

There is the make up station, snack basket, minibar, stationery kit.

Anyone swipe the lot?

I was reprimanded by Mrs QS for coming home with mens amenities kit and not swiping the make up station goodies.....

(I partially redeemed myself by saying she didn't need the EK makeup.....)

Yes they are actually hospital grade paper cleaning wipes but really absorbent and comes thick and folded.

They are in the J lounge toilets and are at the sinks - visible only to those who stops by the vanity sinks on the way out.....

In F on EY once I commented on how nice the pillow was and it was promptly stuffed inside my hand luggage.
My half-hearted protests were ignored.
Sadly after that CDG-AUH sector the pillow had to travel AUH-BKK-HKG-PER and was a bit of a hassle to carry!

Carrying a big pillow at the airport is a very JQ look

I've seen it on QF and VA as well. Kids carring pillows bigger than they are for a 3 hour flight. Absurd.
That's why the pillow was always inside my luggage and I carried something else in one of those EY onboard duty free bags.

I dont so much mind that. Comfort is important. After all adult wear PJs on a plane sometimes ill-fitting because their body shape is not that envisaged (or thought possible) by Marc.....

Interesting thread.

I've got two conflicting views inside me.

1. Taking away anything from the lounge/hotel/plane is theft. I shove a bottle of water in my bag, exit the lounge, and walk past a shop selling the exact same water for five bucks a bottle. It feels like stealing.
2. This stuff is meant to be consumed, and it's put out for people to take.

It really boils down to what the staff attitude/policy is. Hotel toiletries are intended to be taken by guests, and presumably the same applies to small packaged containers of food and drink in airline lounges. Nobody's going to raise a ruckus if I put a bag of chips in my bag for later consumption. And, as others have pointed out, sometimes the staff will assist you in packaging food to go. Realistically, anything set out for guests to consume is "written off" as soon as it is set out.

Being a pig about it is going too far, IMHO, but the facts of carry on life make it difficult to be too much of a pig. And just where is the boundary, anyway? Is anybody going to complain if you stash a can or two of lager into your pack? A bottle of single malt? A wineglass? A cushion? A printer?

My own feeling is that whatever you could realistically consume on the premises in a lounge visit is probably going to be okay. Two beers is nothing, but a bottle of Scotch in a sitting is likely to see you denied boarding. And one doesn't consume the lounge fittings and equipment, at least not to the extent that they are forever lost to the establishment.

Beyond whatever rationalisations I might make, the behaviour implicit in that word "guest" guides my own thinking. One respects the host and the hospitality.

I think if you can carry it with just your bare hands without assistance, then it's OK. Taking a bottle of water "for the road" is fine, in my opinion. If I didn't, then I'd only likely end up asking for one on the plane anyway, so it seems to be much the same result for the airline either way to me. A bag of nuts is fine, stuffing half a dozen in your bag rather less so.

*SNIP*

In that situation, I do feel that there is one party committing theft and it's not me taking a free bottle of water from the lounge.

I put one of those small bottles of Voss sparkling water in my bag today at the Emirates Lounge in DXB, consumed on the plane. Felt a bit guilty, but not enough to stop me.

In the VA lounge, you need to ask over the counter for a bottle of water. I always ask them to leave the cap on so I can take it with me on the plane...and they've never had an issue with it.

I'm the proud "owner" of an EK F stationary kit. Felt a bit cheeky taking it, but it's a nice souvenir of my first F flight.

I was so impressed by the Schick razors I took from the EK lounge bathrooms once that I switched brands

While I'm confessing I also took a number of chocolate banana Tim-tams from The Wing for extra little gifts

The FA informed me the writing kit was a gift along with the stuff in the make up compartment. ;)

Recently went on My first F flight too on EK. I took some of the snacks (nice for gifts), a toothbrush (Colgate!), nail file and loofah. I nabbed a mini jar of NZ honey from the emirates lounge. (It wasn't clear if you're supposed to use it for a dollop or take the whole jar)

I've occasionally taken portable food/drinks from lounges.

I've never been handed one with the lid off or even loosened! In Sydney in the mornings, they just have them sitting on the counter too.
