Tale of 2 brekkies [or Qantas "Cafe" Breakfast Sucks!]

Don't know why I was given Soy milk though?? I can have normal milk as a Muslim lol... :p

I guess the joy of setting up all special meal trays (or most) together. My daughter's child's meal ex-SIN in J had instant coffee sachets ... don't know too many people who want to caffeinate their kids, even to combat jet lag!! :P

Do qf9 and q10 MEL--dxb-Lhr and back have proper landing meals in first or is there also a bit of cafe breakfast?

To be fair, in F on the HKG-SYD an LHR-DXB legs I really don't see a need for a full breakfast. The continental options are more than sufficient, sometimes a pastry and coffee are plenty. Airplanes shouldn't be non stop eat-athons! It's very unhealthy to eat large amounts of cooked foods, whilst being entirely sedentary and often sleeping.

i agree with this. However if I was flying business class and decided to get some sleep rather than endure over 2 hours for a meal, then I'd be unhappy without a choice for breakfast.

First class provides a choice which is the key element.

This was my breakfast MEL-SYD on the weekend. The eggs were supposed to be "poached" but they were okay. Was also offered warm almond croissants which were quite good!
This was a Muslim meal. I thought it was quite substantial for a short flight and enjoyed it. :)

Keeps begging the question. WHY can't you get something like this (+/- Muslim meal) on an international, business class flight! Warm ham and cheese croissant or small bowl of fruit - be damned!

My CX HKG->SYD flight breakfast.
Qantas this is how it is done.
I ordered my breakfast 60mins prior to landing and ate it in 10 minutes with plenty of time to brush teeth/change out of my PJs (was wearing my QF PJs on the CX flight, like so many other people).

BEFORE:
CathayBreakie_before.jpg

I'm lactose intolerant so I don't eat the yogurt/muesli.
I find it really funny that what I don't eat and leave behind is essentially what QF considers to be breakfast.

this is a step in the right direction, but what happens from here? what are the timelines? is cafe breakfast locked in for the next 6 months for example? are there any plans to introduce a Q-eats option for those wanting a more comprehensive breakfast?

While I cannot meet your request for specifics, I can advise that all our products are services are routinely reviewed by our Customer Experience teams.

This includes food and beverages served on board and in our lounges, network wide. Examples provided in AFF threads, in addition to feedback received by Customer Care, are regularly collated and forwarded as reference.

That's it! I'm definitely trying Cathay on my next HK trip - the chance to try their new(ish) J seat (flat!) and actually get fed something decent like that has just squashed my little bit of remaining QF loyalty. Goodbye cafe breakfast... :-)

Thanks for sharing.

Yes Cathay is good as is thai with offering full hot breakfasts in business. But I will give Qantas some credit that for the MAIN courses of the full meal services they do a much better presentation. Cathay and Thai just pull a plate out of the oven and take off the foil. Qantas does present a proper plated meal in business.

If qantas could combine that experience with a hot breakfast on a single tray as an option they would make everybody happy.

As for the question about the hot breakfast on QF9 into LHR in F - yes it is a full hot breakfast service. I had zucchini fritters with tomato relish and scrambled eggs last month

Thanks Red Roo.

It would be interesting if customer care could advise what support they've had for the cafe breakfast.

You'll have seen my posts and had direct feedback from me before, but it (cafe breakfast / time taken etc) really is poor in its current form so I'd be fascinated to know who/how much support there is for it?

but the advantage of pulling a plate out of the oven is a much quicker meal service? (although i have said before CX may not have the most innovative of meals - they are pretty 'safe'. But other airlines can prepare interesting varied meals still in pre-packaged format. Taste and pace is sometimes more important than presentation.

Thanks for the reply.

If the cafe breakfast is 'locked-in' and there is no possibility for change in the next 'x' period, that would be useful to know.

Indeed from your position I agree.

But for someone on a once in a lifetime trip in F, well, the more food the better!

However now I think about it, they are very unlikely to be repeat customers, so why bother investing the money in making them happy!

With a chunk of overnight flights between SYD-HKG (and v/v) I'll attest to that. CX138 (22:20 departure of of Sydney) and similarly timed CX161 (21:25 out of HKG) both do a full dinner service after departure and a full breakfast service before arrival. Having seen pictures in this thread of what QF serves for breakfast on its AU-Asia routes, I think CX wins hands down, even if their meals are served in a plate that had been covered in foil.

Yes it is definitely faster. Thai manage a full long haul international meal done within 1 hour30 to 1 hour 45 after departure from the gate

For late night flights, I don't want to have to wait two hours while there is so much pfaffing around and I am in the back row of J. Bring on the fast full plates then let me sleep. I didnt even bother with a meal on the late night flight from Singapore. We had already had a snack in the lounge. But I was really hungry and ready for a nice breakfast.

Obviously, you & I were not in the "research" demographics of QF catering.

The bean counters on Coward St are saying the opposite.

Really, if I had been flying on Scoot, that rice ball would have been appropriate but for a paid J ticket on a premium airline like QF - and at their benefits of not having dinner (x2), that was insulting.

Why couldn't they introduce a Q-Eat system where the bean counters could have the rice ball and we could order some muesli, yes, simple muesli & toast ?

Those bean counters are too busy hosting lunches and dinners at Rockpool to worry about your breakfast!

QF - you're the reason we can stuff ourselves silly at Neil's place;)
