Thai airways first class and fleet renewal

A quick update that Thai have reallocated both of our seats to first for the outbound and inbound flight SYD-BKK-SYD today.

Although first class is back on from this October on an old 747 config, Thai have not released the sale of first class seats at this stage.

Lets see what other changes are ahead.

Just been on the phone with Thai AUS - They were very friendly and finally the ROP department has wait-listed me for "First", however mentioned that since the downgrade United has only paid for Business. Therefore I need to confirm a re-issue of the ticket with them. As I am on TG475 (where F is currently not sold at all), I will wait with that.

good luck TheDan. I hope it works out for you.

Actually, I couldnt wait and called United last night for the reissue.

It seemed more complicated than I've thought, as they claimed I was only a business award now. I told them this was an involuntary downgrade and that I have never received any repayment of miles for that.

Anyway, the agent insisted that I have to pay the difference between C and F (5,000 miles because I already had an F HKG-BKK flight as part of the itinerary). I guess I should have hung up and tried again, but considering all the time I've already spent on the phone with them and Thai I just wanted it to be over and gave them their 5k miles.

EDIT: The 5k miles were never deducted from my account, so even better. Now just 3 months of fingers crossed without major TG'ing please.

I would have done the same thing, 5 K miles is 'nothing' in the time it takes to have bought your peace of mind.

I called Thai Sydney and tried to get them to change my booking from J to F - the sales agent insisted that I need to get AV to send a note to Thai head office in BKK to wait-list me in F and there is nothing they can do about it in Sydney. She was definitely not friendly at all so I didn't bother to press on, especially I've since replaced the flights with CX/JL with dividend miles.

I am going to keep this booking for now as back up especially AV allows for no show. I can cancel the ticket afterwards (within 12 months).

Worst case you pay extra $50 and get more miles ;)

it is taking up valuable award space which can be used by others. if you don't need the booking, please let others take advantage of the seats.

You are right MEL_Traveller - I shouldn't be taking up the award space others can use.

I will cancel it in a few days - AV is painful to deal with to say that very least.
