We exited BKK yesterday afternoon.Only change was we waltzed straight through Immigration-those that went to the Fast track channel took longer to get through.
We then headed to Pattaya.Absolutely no problems.

Very concerned about these things happening- once again [eyes roll]. Booked through BKK on the way to Langkawi over Christmas and then scheduled to stay five nights over NYE staying in the city itself. I don't fancy those noises to be shots instead of NY fireworks so I only hope they get their cough together :(

hotel occupancy and forward bookings falling rapidly from bloomberg - the PM has been given 2 days to resign so seems like it's set to get worse

We left our hotel at 4 PM and had a great run to BKK, no dramas inside our thoughts to the folks killed, injured and missing days off work

Home safely in MEL as we speak.

Staying in Pattaya-hotel had 80 cancellations for this week.
Silly because no problems here.
Return to BKK on Wednesday.
Thursday will be quiet-King's birthday so the protesters will almost certainly take a day of.

I hope your right, given the deadline of 48 hours for resignation it could well be an escalation point.

CX are now waiving rebooking fees for the next week, probably in response to an HK travel warning issued today.

Interesting excerpt on Royal Thai Police at Wikipedia:

There are no standard issue pistols carried by the Royal Thai Police. A policeman working inside the organization has to buy his own weapons and he/she must buy what's available in Thailand and what he/she can afford. If the police officer can’t afford one, they are allow to purchase by paying installment through their own police co-operative.

One of the popular choice to many Thai police officers is the M1911A1, the .45 ACP pistol in which can be found in Thailand commonly while the 9mm Parabellum Glock 19 is another choice to the Thai police officers.

Though the Thai police does not issue a pistol, heavy arms are always available to the officers, such as the Heckler & Koch MP5 and FN P90 sub-machine guns, Remington 870 shotguns 、M4 carbine and M16 rifle or other weapons.

Well of more importance Thai police have removed all roadblocks and the demonstrators have occupied the Parliamentary precinct.
No word from the Government as yet.
The Army yesterday suggested they could assume power to break the deadslock.
Looks like the old Bangkok elite may be back in charge.

I wonder if the west can bring down governments that easily?

Hire a crowd and protest until they get their way.

So much for the will of the people.

It has now been announced that in fact the Government and protest leaders have agreed to a 48 hour truce for the King's Birthday.
The protesters have all left the Government Offices and gone home.
Military leaders will meet Friday to discuss the crisis.

That says so much of the reverence for His Majesty.

Race of Champions has been cancelled due to the unrest.

Was there late last week and found the protests a slight inconvenience, as a tourist, as a few roads were blocked and I could hear them from my hotel, however if you stay out of their way you should be fine - and as far as I know they are certainly not targeting tourists.

Appears to be all quiet today but the police are ready at their headquarters opposite Central World-

Calm before the storm?

Looks like it:

Anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban declared last night that demonstrators will "blow the final whistle" on Monday to seize power from the Yingluck Shinawatra administration.

Mr Suthep announced at the government complex, the main rally site, that he would not prolong the protest any longer but would make it clear on Monday that demonstrators will "win or lose".

"D-Day time will be 9.39am (Monday 10 Dec). You, Bangkokians, just leave your homes in the morning and march along the roads, all roads in Bangkok, to the same destination - Government House, and we will not return here...
