"Thats why I fly Qantas"

It isn't porridge, off the top of my head I can't remember as someone told me once..
It's bircher muesli and with walnuts, and IMHO is delicious (though I'm not sure how good for my diet the nuts are).

First thing I noticed on Monday - first WP flight ex BNE, - shot glasses with bircher muesli. A definite step-up on the serve yourself options, though I think the BNE Business lounge was more crowded than the QP next door.

Which is good for commercial passengers, but they still treat staff on staff travel like dog ****!
Which still amazes me, as if we don't look after each other, then who in the company will (which is being said quite a lot lately). ;)

Really?? that does surprise me.. I thought they'd look after their own so to speak.. why do they treat them like that?

You should have been on my flight last week. They certainly looked after each other including the 4 in uniform staff in J and one out of uniform staff member holding up disembarkation while they stuffed (insert much stronger word here) around getting themselves sorted out and having a good laugh at the front of the aircraft.

And here I was thinking I would get some serious responses.

Shirley you cant be serious??

Qantas are really scraping the barrel with this campaign, and it's evident in the responses they are getting!

You sure about that? I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you.....

I was well and truly looked after when the ash cloud hit in June.. Impressed that they got me out the following day on a long weekend!

I fly Qantas because it matters not were on this very big planet I walk on board the QF 747 / 380 aircraft, I know I'm home. In that AJ is very right.

Caught Malaria in India on one trip and the first sweats broke out about 1 hour out of Mumbai to Sydney. Chief pilot came to see me and asked if I wanted to go back to Mumbai to get medical attention? I told him him "Just get me home" and he did. .

By chief pilot you mean.... the Captain?? and not to doubt your story, but I don't believe a captain would consult a single ill passenger on wether they would like to return to the point of departure for medical treatment. That is a decision for MedAire!
Whilst he got you home, he also got everyone else on the flight home too..... why you feel this is specific to Qantas escapes me.

Also often for international flights from Australia, QF has the only direct routing and it makes sense to choose that even if there is a much cheaper option.

are you serious? name one international route where Qantas has the only direct routing? Scratch that, I can think of 3. SYD-EZE, SYD-JHB and SYD-DFW. But as a home airline, that is pitiful. Certain other foreign airlines offer the only direct or more frequent services to many more cities that those dominated or only serviced by Qantas. Think oz to KUL on MH, ADL-SIN on SQ, ADL-HKG on CX, PER-JHB on SA, SYD-SFO on UA, SYD-YVR on AC. I think you get where this is going....

depending on where you were going and with whom you were flying, other airlines would have gotten you out on the day you were initially booked on! I know what id prefer.....

Yes Bill, well here it is.From SYD to ASP for $48 tickets (i think this was a promo fare before they failed on the route) we needed to buy, coffees, breakfast, headphones, coloring in book, more coffees, sandwiches, some drinks, face paints. My daughter who was then 4 or 5 did Make the astute comment that we don't pay for anything on Qantas, and it has stayed with me until this day!

oh thats right... because Qantas will fly you to ASP for $48 and give you a colouring in book (you might get it in a kids pack... if your lucky), sandwiches (on top on breakfast) and face paint!! I mean really..... you'd barely get a second cup of coffee without getting a surly look. And don't even dream of asking for fresh milk instead of those god awful UHT sachets that they are so fond of, as you'll almost be told off!

Can't imagine that happening on the Singapore Airlines flight!

I feel bad for even worrying about it. But it kinda annoyed me at 10:25pm to be held up while they stood around like a gaggle of geese laughing and joking while getting down all their bags before any of them moved. Like, you got your bag then GO! Balancing that whinge I was also happy they were having fun and cheerful.

Someone mentioned qantas was great during the ash cloud. My experience with qantas and the ash cloud was nothing but pitiful. No communication not a single SMS, refused to rebook me at the airport and I'm still waiting them to ticket my rebooked flight in September.

Wow! Why so aggressive? Seems you joined the forum 22 July and your posting history is interesting:

Where is the aggression? just pointing out that no captain or airline I have ever heard of (and i'm not saying that I am an "expert" on this topic) would personally consult an ill pax and ask them if they wanted the aircraft turned around, 1 hour in flight, so that they could get the medical treatment they think they might need but are not medically qualified to diagnose. Can you imagine the costs in inconvenience associated with such a decision? that is why there are rules, policies and procedures regarding ill passengers and whilst each airline is no doubt different, a personal consultation by the "chief pilot" is not one of them.

If the OP knew he contracted malaria, as he claims, then perhaps he could have done all the passengers and crew a favour and not boarded the flight to get the appropriate treatment. However, this is not entirely clear, as all he said was that the effects started approximately 1 hour into the flight and he may have found out it was malaria after he arrived back in Australia. All I am saying is that if he needed immediate medical attention, it would have been found, either via an onboard Dr, a ground based Dr or a diversion to the nearest appropriate airfield.

As for this chief pilot "just getting him home"....... i thought this forum was one where rational, professional frequent travellers shared advice, opinion and perspective on all things to do with aviation. If i wanted drama, i'd watch a midday soap!

Regarding my posting history...firstly I cant view the link and secondly... what of it?

I know most people don't care but I wish they did something about their on time performance. I was around 30 minutes late on Friday and over an hour late on Sunday. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but still a pain to arrive early for a flight they know will be delayed and not even offering a seat on an earlier flight.

As for onboard service I guess I have not noticed anything different but then I do not believe there are any issues with QF domestic cabin crew. We were offered free alcohol on Sunday night for the 1 hour dely.

I've had nothing over 15 mins in the last 2 months on QF.. and late arrivals have all been thanks to traffic congestion (I've been mainly going to SYD). I guess it is the luck of the draw

If it is luck of the draw then my atrocious luck explains my poor on time performance.

On a brighter note I got to BNE airport early yesterday and asked in business lounge if I could get on earlier flight. They were flow fowarding and I was given a seat on the next flight due for boarding in 4 minutes but it was a middle seat on a 737 so I declined and asked for the flight after. I got 4F and the flight was not full and as it so happens it was the new 737.

In my opinion the seat at 4F felt a little tighter and for future reference the arm rest by the window is fixed and gets in the way. Good thing though there is the IFE screen and the tray table slides out further away from the body than usual 737.

I had 4C on VH-VZM the other week and agree the seat felt a bit narrower. Really dilemma for me because IFE is not useable in row 4 until after takeoff. Between ADL and SYD that means I can't watch a full movie. But in row 5 the IFE is useable immediately and I could just get in a full movie.

I wasn't going to start a new thread but....

Sitting in the MEL J lounge at 2:30pm and the barman is quite happily making barista coffee for people who ask... This man deserves a medal!!! Is it sign of things to come????
