The BYO Wine Restaurant Thread

Sydney BYO

I've struggled to find higher end restaurants for BYO, any tips?

We usually just visit our Japanese local.

Visiting Two Chaps soon for BYO, Tets (used to do it), Quay has a limited bottle service atm (but something like $60 a bottle), Golden Century.

I've heard Fix is also good, but BYO is for lunch only on certain days.

Otto Ristorante $25/bottle but no BYO on Friday or Saturday nights. I believe Aria is doing BYO (around $50/bottle) for a limited time if you have at least 10 people.

I’ve read that Tetsuya may still occasionally allow BYO if it’s a special occasion and a special bottle of wine (maybe if you ask very nicely?)

I highly recommend Borrelli’s though if you make it out to North West Sydney. It’s a hidden gem and very busy on weekends. The steaks and pastas are fantastic.

My goodness that's cheap.
I don't know anywhere in ADL that charges less than $15/bottle although there may be somewhere.

Yep very lucky! Although the glassware isn’t all that great at any of them. Pretty sure most of them won’t have decanters either, but I can see past that for good food.

Interesting because when we chatted to the guy at Siberia and said that we thought the corkage was expensive he said well I'm just going on other restaurants and my duck is cheaper than xx_ restaurant and then had a little rant about a few things. Hey mate - I'm here to have dinner and enjoy myself not listen to you having a whinge.

20% off $150+ Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Gift Cards using MEMBER20 ends midnight AEDT tonight, but Coles still have 2000 flybuys points with them and Good Food gift cards until next Tuesday
Do these deal come up often? And is there a thread about them?
Potentially huge savings when going out.

20% off $200+ spend @ Good Food Restaurant Gift Card with MEMBER20 - ends next Monday

no worries, but if not too late then i'd call them before buying in case they don't currently accept them
Too late. I'll find out soon I guess.
If not it won't be that hard to spend at Ryne or similar over the next little while.

How was Cutler & Co? Been a while since I've been there

Not high-end, but when I had time just over a year ago, I enjoyed The Local Eatery thanks to @Wozza, though unfortunately couldn't catch up with him, and naz_mi ($3.50/bt corkage) near QVB, courtesy of @camw - meant to go to Ripples as well but booked out - Fix and Bistro Moncur are long-time favourites/standbys - most top restaurants in Melbourne and Sydney have allowed me to BYO special bottles by prior arrangement, highest charge has probably been $40-$50

BYO glassware and decanters :)

Ring ahead and discuss with the manager. Explain that what you're looking to bring isn't on their wine list. Be prepared to go on a less busy night. I've been somewhat successful with this approach.

+1 definitely shouldn't be on their wine list, speak with the head sommelier, drop bottles off beforehand outside of service so that other patrons aren't aware

Still getting back into the swing of things after covid lockdown but pretty dark good at the same time. And they still accept the gourmet Traveller vouchers!

Coles has 15% off the 'restaurant card' which can be used at any restaurant that accepts Eftpos. Decent savings as I expect all restaurants to accept eftpos. Correct me if I'm wrong?

fyi due to covid-19, Taxi Kitchen is currently not allowing BYO or gift cards :(

however Ryne continues to accept both :)

I'm planning/hoping to use them myself at places like Taxi Kitchen who don't (currently) accept gift cards, by saying that they are just prepaid EFTPOS cards, even though GT and GF ones are as well, only more limited forms presumably based upon merchant category/code

Anyone know whether the restaurant gets the full value, other than the small typical visa type fee?

Free byo at the sydney Manly Pacific bistro on Wednesdays (accor hotel for further dinning discounts possibly). Nice spot but never tried the food, perhaps someone can advise.

Looking for somewhere in SE Melbourne that does a good meal and has good glassware. France Soir is our normal lunch spot but no BYO with number restrictions at the moment and timed seating's doesn't suite our style.

French would be preferred (rib eye, frites and béarnaise), but open to alternative cuisines. The further SE the better (less travel)

Thanks in advance
