The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Vic to open up AZ to anyone over 18. The State Run Hubs will have on site GP's that they will consult with prior to getting their vaccination.

Victorians under 40 to access AstraZeneca vaccine at state run centres from tomorrow

Victorians aged under 40 will now be able to access the AstraZeneca vaccine at state run centres from tomorrow.
The Victorian Government says the expanded access follows recent advice from ATAGI.
Authorities say Astra Zeneca will still be available to 18 to 39 year olds at participating GP and medical centres.
Vic to also commence operation of a "drive through" vaccination clinic. People will be vaccinated in their car.

Victoria soft-launches Australia's first drive-through vaccination clinic

"You book, you drive up, roll down your window, roll up your sleeve, get a jab, it's that easy," health official Naomi Bromley said.
"This is a fantastic addition to our existing state infrastructure. It will be a really good and convenient, simple, safe way for Victorians to get vaccinated.
"This first site is at a former Bunnings Warehouse location in Melton. It's at 149 Barries Road and it's operated by Westin Health.
"Now, the site has been soft launched today. Invitation only, but from tomorrow, it will be open to bookings so, please, jump online, have a look for some of those bookings opening up in Melton and from tomorrow we'll be welcoming people through for that drive-through model."
A friend of mine works in one of these hubs and they have been giving AZ to anyone anyway...after a chat with a doctor. Not sure how long for but certainly in the past week.

These must also be walk ins...that aren't officially happening.

So ATAGI want most of us to chat to a doctor if we take Astra Zeneca, but not if we take Pfizer???

Work colleague in Brisbane saw his GP on Wednesday with a view to getting AZ, aged 45.
He told him to wait for Pfizer and despite no history of problems in his family he said they’ll have Pfizer in 4 or 5 weeks so might as well wait until then.

He also said it’s pointless signing up to the QLD government website for getting Pfizer. They simply won’t respond. 😳

This sounds like a rather curious position. By "they'll have Pfizer" was the GP referring to their own clinic having stock and not to bother registering with the state?

I didn’t ask him at the time but I gathered he meant QLD would have adequate supply. Like you I have since wondered if it was just the GP referring to his clinic. I did tell him to seek another GP though

Well now SE Qld is announced to be out of lockdown soon, demand will die down. I think I heard today the Qld CHO back to her "if you're under 40, wait for Pfizer" lines.

If that’s true the Premier should sack the QLD CHO for negligence/incompetence/similar and strip her of the promotion to governor.

Why? The Qld Premier probably secretly agrees, having delayed getting her vaccine and then only taking Pfizer.

I totally agree with you - those states are key to moving forward. However I think the 3 little ones are doing an amazing job.

I think it’s good they aren’t sitting on their hands and great they won’t hold us back but really small geographic states with more densely populated areas like ACT should really almost be done they don’t have any excuse.

They aren’t getting any biscuits from me for leading the race but a definitely a ‘thank you’ for at least not holding us back :)

At present for the younger cohort they still want them to consult with a GP and GPs will be at the state run hubs as part of the process.

So pharmacies when it happens in Vic will probably be for vaccination without a GP consult and so will probably be for an older cohort (unless Vic has cases surge that is).

The VIC CHO has massive swag with the younger generation so his strong words today re: AZ and the mass hubs were EXCELLENT. The response on TikTok is always huge to Brett.

It’s called no vaccine. They have 100% utilisation most of the time, but you can’t jab what you don’t have…..

That's all we need. "I'll wait for the Moderna vaccine" while the country withers away.
It’s fine - lots coming in - a million doses in September then three million a month. Add that to a big increase in Pfizer and soon Wallys who insist on mRNA will be able to have it (if they are still alive).

Greg Hunt has advised Moderna will likely be approved by the TGA within the next few weeks with the first batch of doses due mid-September.
Good to see that the TGA is moving at it usual glacial pace on a vaccine approved in other jurisdictions around the world in the midst of a pandemic. Hopefully TGA and ATAGI will be disbanded and a more effective agency and group take their place.

I won’t even listen to her anymore she makes me so angry. I listened to the first part of the QLD presser and turned it off as soon as she came on :(
