The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

I realise not everyone can be above average but I’m disappointed my home state (VIC) is is the drag on the vaccine rollout right now.
Is it? One state that I looked at the other day, that was doing very well in percentage terms, has only done the equivalent of vaccinating Geelong.

VIC is doing fine and of the 3 big states that really matter they are close second to NSW, but the poster was referring to a weird cut of numbers not super relevant.

40 to 49s are already mid 60s and they only opened up in July

Are you sure it was that late? In NSW 40-49s could register in mid May and attend by invite from last week of May. Then opened to all 40-49s in mid June.

Some more good news from VIC with the younger cohort swamping clinics to get jabbed. More mass hubs are being worked on to accept younger people for AZ after the initial tranche were booked out after the VIC CHO promoted the availability.

How did Victoria smash its previous vaccination record? One demographic rolled up their sleeves

"Our phones are getting slammed."

If you try to call one Brunswick East medical practice at the moment, it's likely you won't be able to get through to any of the clinic's six phone lines.

Instead, you'll hear a voicemail message telling you the practice is in the same situation as many other GP clinics across the state, with the public's huge interest in COVID-19 vaccines resulting in non-stop calls.

Doctors, reception staff and practice managers have been inundated, but they're not necessarily complaining.

Looking at covidlive today it seems Tasmania has taken a jump up the ranks to first place at 101 days till 80% double jabbed. Then NSW at 104, then ACT at 115, NT at 119, Vic at 125, WA at 127, Qld at 130 and SA at 132 (21st December).

Today I received my email from Qld Health inviting me to create an account and book my vaccination. However, after following the instructions, there are NO (none, zero, zilch) bookings available at any of the 13 Qld Health vaccination centres within 20km of my home for the entire period between 10th August to 8th October (the booking window available on the web site). The only option I could find that has bookings available is the new vaccination site at South Bank, but that is about 40km away and not at all convenient for me.

I assume this is a temporary glitch in the booking system and I will try again later today and again daily for a few days to see if bookings become available at a more convenient location. There are two locations within 5km of my home which are quite easy to attend (one slightly more convenient).

Anyway, the invitation to make a booking came much earlier than the October estimate note in my previous email from Qld Health following initial registration of interest.
Ok, I think I have worked out what was happening yesterday with the Qld Health vaccination booking system. A new mass vaccination centre was announced and set to open for operations today at the convention centre. I suspect that I, along with many others who had registered interest, receive the invitation to book yesterday to allow us all to make a booking at the new location, while access to bookings at all other sites was temporarily blocked. So Qld Health was able to announce to the media today just how popular the new centre is with 1500 people booked to be vaccinated there today. Well, given it was the only location accepting bookings, there is little wonder why it was popular for bookings made yesterday for vaccinations today.

Anyway, the system is allowing bookings at my local centre to be made today, for slots from about 2 weeks time. So I now have a booking in the system for first jab and should be fully 5G compliance and double dipped by mid September, or perhaps earlier if an earlier slot opens up while checking regularly for sooner availability.

no distance limit. I can book a vaccination anywhere in Sydney if there is an appointment.

You may be able to book but if you are in a restricted area you should not be attending, outside your LGA or 5km/10km radius.

Both Premier and Hazard were clear today that is it not appropriate to drive unecessary distances to get vaccinated, they called out the Albury example. Dr Chant also calrified she was appalled at that behaviour.

And whilst you can inspect property you are supposed to drive directly there and back again, not go shopping, dine out etc

The issue isnt the restrictions, it is a small number of selfish people flouting them, and keeping us all in lockdown longer.

You are right - one month feels like another - it was mid June they started vaccinating under 50s. However it’s still a good % for that time frame. :)

As usual the truth is somewhere between these two extreme views. Yes, its not reasonable to travel from Sydney to Albury but you are allowed to travel outside LGA or 5/10km radius if that's the nearest reasonable location. It would for example be reasonable to travel if you cant find a location locally or bookings mean you cant get an appointment for weeks/months. The hub for year 12 students is a good example of a reasonable reason to go outside LGA and 5 k radius.

Which is what I originally stated.

Noting that is for 1 week only, and the venue is restricted to only those students for that week.

Thanks for those dates update.

That's bloody amazing numbers IMO, on current runrate we can hit 80% by xmas, geez that excites me. More than a tickle under the gonads by Mrs Moo. hmm!!

And to compensate the slow stagnate level we'll hit, hopefully it's around the 70% mark cos that's when the PM stated he'll introduce incentives to get us towards 80%.
So that should nudge along the %%.

Just gotta get to 70% on our own.

Book those international trips for 2022 those missing their loved ones. You beauty.

Well for going in 2022 I'd need a reasonable chance of being able to have a trip of say about a month to go before late 2022 if I can't go late 2021. So I hope we hit the targets and they ease restrictions enough to make a trip of about a month possible.
