The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

f
Well for going in 2022 I'd need a reasonable chance of being able to have a trip of say about a month to go before late 2022 if I can't go late 2021. So I hope we hit the targets and they ease restrictions enough to make a trip of about a month possible.
Forget 2021, that's absolute no chance, zero like covid zero in NSW.

The vaccine rollout is finally progressing to a level that may, just may see us hit our target around Xmas.

Book for 2022 before we hit 70% & the reality & details of international borders to certain countries open up & the inevitable rush & airlines websites going down & we get a new thread for that issue.

Pay a few bob more for a flexible ticket to assure yourself.
It's like investing in a stock before it's big & in demand, flights for 2022 not in demand....yet!

I suspect that I, along with many others who had registered interest, receive the invitation to book yesterday to allow us all to make a booking at the new location, while access to bookings at all other sites was temporarily blocked. So Qld Health was able to announce to the media today just how popular the new centre is with 1500 people booked to be vaccinated there today.
If that has actually happened then I sit here in disbelief that a state government would play politics with vaccination appointments for the sake of a good news story given the position we are in at the moment

Some more good news from VIC with the younger cohort swamping clinics to get jabbed. More mass hubs are being worked on to accept younger people for AZ after the initial tranche were booked out after the VIC CHO promoted the availability.

How did Victoria smash its previous vaccination record? One demographic rolled up their sleeves

"Our phones are getting slammed."

If you try to call one Brunswick East medical practice at the moment, it's likely you won't be able to get through to any of the clinic's six phone lines.

Instead, you'll hear a voicemail message telling you the practice is in the same situation as many other GP clinics across the state, with the public's huge interest in COVID-19 vaccines resulting in non-stop calls.

Doctors, reception staff and practice managers have been inundated, but they're not necessarily complaining.

The graph shows the surge in the younger age groups. And it will in the main be by getting vaccinated with AZ.

And with a fantastic 75,236 doses in NSW in the GP and pharmac_ Channel. I suspect that the pharmacists are now really starting to ramp up in NSW and are really helping to have gotten NSW numbers so high.

Sadly those channels in Vic while having increased to 31,030 doses yesterday are constrained by supply as various sources have indicated that demand has surged.

Well done to all those facilities for getting involved

A particular well done to pharmacies who have come in to their own over the past week or two. Great work (especially if you believe for some reason that they are inexperienced and not suitable for this job..........)

Three age groups went past 50% fully vaccinated yesterday 75-79, 80-84 and 85-89. In the next couple of days, the overall 70+ figure should go past 50% with 70-74 the only 70+ age group still under 50%.

More than 1 in every 8 30-34 year olds are now fully vaccinated.

Overall 50+ should go past 70% with first dose when today’s numbers are released tomorrow.

By the end of the week 40-44 and 45-49 should be around 50% with first dose, the last of the 40+ age groups to achieve that.

In 3 months the fully vaccinated numbers should look a lot better with a clear majority of the 40+ population fully vaccinated.

When today‘s numbers are released tomorrow NSW and QLD should have over 50% of 70+ fully vaccinated.

Apparently AZ is out of stock in the transit point we draw from!! (In VIC)…. I did hear that CSL were increasing production again does anyone know if that has been confirmed?

It would make sense for the government to do everything it can to get them to scale up production with renewed demand. Say we are aiming to hit 80% fully vaccinated in mid-December that means that anyone taking their first AZ by mid-September should reach full vaccination by mid-December even if waiting 12 weeks between doses.

We certainly have a window of opportunity over the next month or so (or even longer in SYD where the recommendation is to have the 2nd AZ dose sooner) to use AZ to speed up the rollout before the mRNA supply improves. There's no plans to give AZ to kids, so the more adults that take AZ the sooner there'll be supply to give kids that don't have serious health issues a vaccine.

Well we have just shipped off another 500,000 AZ doses to Timor and Fiji. We did not want it, and they sorely needed it.

Australia is this week sending 500,000 COVID-19 doses to Timor-Leste and Fiji, with further deliveries planned in coming weeks.
Some 300,000 doses arrived in the Timor-Leste capital of Dili on Wednesday, while Fiji will receive 200,000 doses this week, the government said in a statement.
"Australia has now shared over 575,000 doses with Timor-Leste, where 42 per cent of the adult population has received at least a first dose," it said.
"These vaccines, complemented by Australian technical assistance, will boost Timor-Leste’s national vaccination rollout across all 13 municipalities, including remote and hard-to-reach areas.
"Fiji is also receiving an additional 200,000 vaccine doses this week, totalling 861,000 doses shared. This is significant progress towards Australia’s commitment of one million vaccine doses delivered to the country this year."
PS. Overseas Aid is something we 100% need to do.

Good for confirmation, but I'm pretty sure most following this thread would say West Hoxton party was pretty definitive. I think the PM also mentioned it at one of his press conferences around that time.

But this instance also highlights my concerns for the ineligible to be vaccinated children.

Still haven't heard much of any hospitalisation or serious illness (ICU) in this cohort (which is good), but it is also going to be the collateral damage when the NSW Premier restarts schools.....

It's a race. "The Race that unStops a Nation"

After lagging the field NSW is bolting through the pack and may well cross the finish line first.

PS: Unfortunately that finish line may well keep moving....

Which is what I originally stated.
You may be able to book but if you are in a restricted area you should not be attending, outside your LGA or 5km/10km radius.
Sure it was what you originally stated, no qualification that you are allowed to travel outside LGA or 5/10km radius if that's the nearest reasonable location. You do realise your comments remain on here for all to see!

I am crossing my fingers that vaccine(s) for children will be approved before year end.

Almost inevitable I'd say with current rates of vaccination and likelihood that lockdown will last at least until end Sep.
Agree. Most projections now have NSW first. I think its then ACT and Tasmania. Then the National Average meets the target.

Under 12? I doubt it somehow. Hardly hear much in the way of trials even.
