The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

By the time I am fully vaccinated late September everyone (with rare exceptions) 18+ will have had a chance to get vaccinated as I’m in 2B.
That simply isn't true. There hasn't been the supply or distribution capability of any vaccine, not even AZ, to do the whole population. There should have been and it should be true but we have to accept reality.

I am in 2B, and still ineligible for Pfizer, got my first AZ about a week after I became eligible for AZ. Anyone desperate enough to get vaccinated 18+ will have had plenty of time to get fully vaccinated waiting the full 12 weeks by the end of September or even if slow sometime in October at the latest.

Just to be precise in case you are trying to take away my meaning - a "chance" mean available slots and supply.......on current projections that doesn't happen until may be November/December.

The issue is that it does take a few weeks or so after the 2nd jab to start to get optimal protection so the risk you're taking is no exposure prior to the 2nd jab and ideally at least a few weeks afterwards.
Well of course but not much they can do about it now except to get the second jab as soon as possible if we get more cases.

Well, as someone once said, when given the choice between a conspiracy theory or incompetence, incompetence will win 9 times out of 10. Either way, does not represent well for Qld Health.
I heard a slightly different version from a prominent politician who I spent a day with some 37 years ago.
If in politics there is a choice between a conspiracy and a stuff up the stuff up wins every time.It is hard enough convincing two politicians to agree.
And If a politician tells you about why there is a problem always think why are they doing this.

What's more if a young person that is not anti-vax takes AZ now they will bring forward the time that older people that are resisting getting AZ can access mRNA, people in the most vulnerable group who should have been fully vaccinated by now but have been scared off by anti-vax scaremongering and are waiting for Pfizer.
It's not really the anti-vax scaremongering, all those I know not wanting the AZ is because of the main stream media reporting on the very rare blood clotting issue.
The vast majority don't read any rubbish this anti-vax brigade publish, 5G & whatever else. Who'd have the time or desire?

Over 70% (70.35%) of 50+ have had their first dose, just under half of which are fully vaccinated (35.04%).

Just under 50% (49.92%) of 70+ are fully vaccinated.

When today's numbers are released tomorrow we may reach 25% of 16+ fully vaccinated or be just a little short of that.

40-44 has over 30% fully vaccinated. 45-49 should reach 50% with first dose when today's numbers are released tomorrow.

20.2% fo 25-29 year olds have had their first dose and 1 in 6 (16.7%) of 20-24 year olds.

60-64 now have over 25% (25.6%) fully vaccinated. So every age group 40-44 and up has over 25% fully vaccinated now.

QLD and NSW now both have over 50% of 70+ fully vaccinated.

NSW should be almost at 50% of 16+ that have had a first dose when today's numbers come out tomorrow which is well ahead of other major states like VIC and QLD. 49.02% (NSW) vs 45.85% (VIC) vs 41.26% (QLD).

Considering that they are recommended to have a shorter gap between AZ doses in NSW their fully vaccinated percentage would be expected to climb quickly.

Despite doing well with the over 70s, QLD is doing poorly with the first doses for the younger age groups.

Sometimes people wish to walk their own path. Was talking with someone at the local coffee shop about the annoyance of lockdowns, the impact its having on me/us, lost family time etc.

And how I see the only way out of it as vaccination, however they (50+) were not interested in vaccination due to the unknown long term effects of receiving the vaccine. I pointed out that I was fully vaccinated and still alive and kicking, but it made no difference - without more/absolute certainty of no long term effects they were not going to be vaccinated. Fair enough, up to them - personal choice.

Coffees were ready, and I headed on my way, leaving them to light up a fresh cigarette.

Sometimes you just can't make it up.

Clearly not a mathematician! 12 weeks from today is already November and we still more than half of our population not having had even 1 dose. Possibly we can get 1 dose into everyone by end September but fully vaccinated is just not going to happen.

This reminds me of my playgroup grandmother who doesn’t want to get vaccinated - she was a smoker too. :) :)

Clearly those who didn’t have their first dose who are 18+ back in July chose not to be vaccinated as soon as they could. I had my first dose in early July and that was about a week after I and all the rest of the 18+ population that hadn’t been eligible became eligible. Even not rushing first dose having it by mid July was easily doable for those who really wanted it. Those not fully vaccinated sometime in October either have rare reasons not to take AZ or procrastinated.

We need these icons as a set. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🙇🏼‍♀️
I support people's choice in this but be damned if their choice forms part of any Govt policy once everyone has had the full opportunity to be vaccinated.

...or there is a lack of available shots/supply.

Young people have voiced their frustration at not being able to get vaccination appointments despite being willing to get the AstraZeneca jab.

Comedian Tommy Little shared his own experience on The Project on Sunday night of being turned away from vaccination hubs in Victoria.

“Then I see ads on TV – the government telling us to get vaccinated and it makes my blood boil because it is their fault we don’t have the vaccine,” Little said.

“I feel really sorry for young people at the moment because I feel like the government is basically gaslighting them.

“They keep pushing them to get vaccinated and they don’t have a safe vaccine — they don’t have enough of it to go around.

I went to my GP in VIC and they had 1200 doses in the fridge when I had my first dose in early July. I’m sure they are far from an isolated case. Plenty of supply of AZ. So much so that the government has had sufficient supplies to donate huge numbers of doses to other countries.

If everyone eligible came forward for AZ at once then there would be a problem but that’s not what happened in early July. People not vaccinated by the end of October clearly have not been rushing to get vaccinated or have refused to take AZ.

Anyone who can take AZ and isn’t fully vaccinated by the end of October can only blame themselves.

I noticed a slight change in SA Health vaccine update announced today in that after consultation with a practitioner onsite, that AZ would be available to all at the Hubs. Previously this required a GP visit and letter and have heard some very disturbing reports of GPs refusing to do this because of liability.

Also heard of a GP who was telling people not to get a second AZ as the second one only conferred an additional 5%. The person who told me this was going to have the GP reported.

I checked the place I got my vaccines at, when I got it in May there were multiple options available that day or next. Now I used the app that looks across site, first available is in 6 days where I went and for some locations not until end September. So clearly AZ is in much more demand than previously.

Were you recently trying to convince/argue the point that people taking Astra Zeneca now would open up Pfizer shots for others and overall Australia would get to 80% 2-shots quicker? I'm sure other person would have looked at their individual circumstances and be saying I can get double dosed quicker with Pfizer.

Now the shoe is on the other foot, you look at your individual circumstance and then say overall that its their problem if they didn't get the shot. Clearly ignoring the supply issue that currently exists overall in Australia.

Which way do you want it? People to be double dosed as soon as possible (Pfizer represents a quicker pathway) or get any Astra Zeneca dose now to open up Pfizer shots for others so that 80% of eligible Australians get fully vaccinated as soon as possible.

This is true. Demand is now far outstripping supply/available shots/appointments
