The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Some big milestones today and tomorrow for vaccinations:
-VIC hit the 5 million jab mark today (roughly equivalent to NSW's 6 million jab mark)
-NSW will hit 7 million jabs tomorrow
-NSW will hit 70% single jabs tomorrow
-Australia should get to 60% single jabs tomorrow (it will be close)
-Australia might get to 20 million jabs tomorrow (it will be very close)

Obviously these are a day out, so the tomorrow milestones are being achieved today, reported tomorrow.

Even with the feds in control of aged care - states had to make the rules for the aged care workers - feds just messing it all over the place.

As I know a number of people in Aged and Disability Care I have always monitored the vaccination numbers in this segment.

If there is one part of the vaccine rollout that has been particularly poorly implemented it is in Aged and Disability Care. This was meant to a priority part of the rollout, but it has been slow and haphazard. And it remains so.

If you look at the just last month the Commonwealth has suddenly gone from 435,212 dose to 758,086 doses!

Looking at what doses went where in the last month would suggest that the Commonwealth will still be massively behind in most jurisdictions.









Where my MIL is as per emailed advice received today, 83% of staff are single dosed and 69% double dosed. I suspect that is better than many.

Some great numbers. Hoping we can keep the momentum and accelerate (and that the bend in the adoption curve is above 80% not below).

Personally, I've run out of friends and colleagues to persuade to get vaxxed. Now I feel like standing in the street and hassling people to get vaxxed, but I think that might get me arrested.

They will be monitoring the hospital cases, icu, those on ventilation etc.

If they are managing all ok, then all good. If not then restrictions get tweaked and vaccination marketing etc may be increased.


However the Feds and CHOs will keep monitoring the vaccinations just as they do for the flu, measles etc.

Those are some big milestones.

Some additional ones:

35-39 first dose is at 48%. When tomorrow's numbers are released on Friday that figure should go past 50%.

75-79 may go past 90% for first dose when today's numbers are released tomorrow. They may also go past 2/3 fully vaccinated at the same time. For either of these they would be the first age group to do so nationally.

55-59 and 65-69 should go past 50% fully vaccinated when today's numbers are released tomorrow, the first under 70 age groups to achieve this.

33.4% (just over 1/3) of 20-24 year olds have had a first dose. When tomorrow's numbers are released on Friday that figure should go past 35%, half way to 70% first doses.

VIC is past half way to the 70% fully vaccinated target (currently 35.39%) for 16+. VIC should also go past 80% first dose for 50+ when today's numbers are released tomorrow.

Nationally we should go past 80% first dose for 50+ when tomorrow's numbers are released on Friday.

SA should go past half way to the 70% fully vaccinated target for 16+ when today's numbers are released tomorrow.

NT, QLD and WA should all go past 50% fully vaccinated for 50+ when today's numbers are released tomorrow.

NSW has gone past 90% first dose for 70+ (90.23%).

For once I agree with the AMA who are calling on the Fed Gov to mandate compulsory vaccination for all hospitals, clinics, GP's and all non-medical admin staff, contractors etc etc that support them in every medical facility in the country.

I just cannot believe this hasn't been done yet. Talk about moving in slomo....

I think all who work in education - especially the primary school system where most of the students are ineligible should also have a vaccine mandate and the government should do everything it can to make it easy for staff to get vaccinated regardless of age.

NSW have already mandated this. If your work onsite at a school (Early Childhood, Primary and Highschool) you need to be fully vacinated, that is teachers, teachers aids, the tuckshop ladies, cleaners etc by 8th Nov.

From the week starting September 6, education staff (including early childhood education staff) will be prioritised for vaccinations at Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney Olympic Park.

A recent survey of the Department of Education which had over 50,000 responses found almost 80 per cent of staff had already had one dose and close to 40 per cent were fully vaccinated.

My sister is a teacher and was on a call with other senior teachers (Principals, Vice Princials, RECs and union) re the new mandate last week, majoroty supported the mandate and many of the teachers were also calling for primary age children to have to wear masks too.

At the moment the kids who are attending school are (supposedly) the kids of essential workers, so at higher risk of being exposed to covid. The schools have had trouble getting staff to come onsite because the kids arent wearing masks.

In terms of mandatory vaccinations in NSW, I think many will be watching this court case closely.

They dont seem to have done their homework since they mention many occupations who have not been mandated to get a covid vaccine.

Those not wanting to get a jab can choose not to, but need to understand the majority will not want to risk working closely with them or be treated by them. Restrictions going forward will be for the unvaccinated.

There were already compulsory vaccinations for frontline HCW long before Covid-19.

I hope it gets thrown out swiftly.

EDIT: Mr Nikolic is the solicitor representing the protester who punched the police horse.
I think we can see his agenda here and it’s far from human rights.

Yes certainly all permanent medical workers at hospitals in Vic have to keep all their required vaccinations up to date. And this is verified on an ongoing basis.

Though I am not sure if there is a deadline for compliance as yet with the Covid vax.

The situation will be very fact specific, but the burden of proof shifts to the employer under the relevant laws. I think vaccine mandates will be upheld.

The feds regulate the medical body though.

States will all be on board with anything that means they have to spend less money, of which vaccinated healthcare workers is clearly one such (super easy & obvious) step.

But only possible due to co operation by the States.It was suggested by COAG in 2008.

It was a great idea.Prior to it's existence I needed to be registered in every State I got a job in.So I had 5 registrations.Now only 1.
However complaints about practitioners still mainly go to State boards.Some States,NSW in particular,investigate those themselves but others will refer them to the National board.

Potentially a legal issue is in what form the mandatory vaccination requirements are implemented - because if they are public health orders then it might be an issue that mandatory vaccination is beyond the normal expected boundaries of which public health orders are designed for generally. I guess most pre-covid vaccination requirements are in workplace agreements or employment contracts.
