The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Shouldn't we be averaging (at least) 100k jabs a day at a minimum if CSL has a goal of making 1 million units per week and getting to a target of where the Government want to be towards the end of the year?

I still stand by my previous comment that the current roll out is to slow.
Brisbane lockdown is another reminder of why the 'we can take it slowly' narrative is plainly false.

Ah, that translates as making promises you can't keep....
Again, I agree. Setting the 4 million target was probably not the best idea.

What's happened has happened. I'm really looking forward to the supply coming out of CSL. It's going to make a huge difference, I hope. And novavax is sounding promising this week too, which we have a lot of potential doses for (they will be able to manufacture 2 billion doses this year, the government has 50m on order)

I agree. But you can't give doses you don't have
Maybe D'ath could unlock the stockpile cupboard rather than play politics on supply and spread false rumours about a 25 person party to cover their incompetence of not vaccinating hospital staff in (in)direct contact with COVID patients from Qatar and India.

SA has only given around 24000 vaccinations and that includes Pfizer and only Pfizer needed to be kept as stock for second vaccinations. I know that SA has received many more than 24,000 AZ. We are doing less per day than we did last week.

Then that's a good question for the state government to answer. I did see a stat that only around 25% of vaccines given to QLD health department have been administered.

Absolutely and have been making that very point clear for a few posts in here now. But the phrase this morning when the Premier was directly questioned on why it was so slow here was, as I posted earlier today 'we are doing this slowly and carefully to keep everyone safe". Insert 🤢

So, he actually said that?

I seem to recall that he jumped in and grabbed a jab at the start of the vaccinations, although I missed the reason why he would’ve been in 1a. Maybe I’m thinking of someone else?

That's the man! Yes. He said it this morning in response to the speed - the radio interviewer was clearly frustrated as he had parents waiting their shot in 1b and getting nowhere. He had the first pfizer in SA along with CHO and PC. An act of leadership at the time but the slow path he is taking is disappointing.

I noticed how quick some pollies were about getting to the head of the queue in order to show “leadership”. I wanted mine as soon as possible anyway, and didn’t need to be convinced by those pollie photo ops.

I felt that they were almost “stealing” those jabs from the more vulnerable at the time, considering the shortage of availability. Not a good look, really.

As has been discussed before, there are arguments both ways on that.

A few doses to pollies isn't going to slow down the vaccine getting to the vulnerable by a material amount and there's nothing more we dislike in politicians than hypocrisy. If the politicians say get the vaccine jab but aren't willing to take it themselves that inspires much less confidence than them taking it and saying I've had it you should have it too. The downside risks of a few pollies having the vaccine are far outweighed by the potential upsides.

Set up vaccination stations at exit of MCG and Marvel and get up to 100,000 doses over and on top of GP's and hospitals every AFL weekend.
I would not be at all surprised if come a certain point in the rollout you can only attend if you can prove you've been vaccinated. Say once every in 1B has had time to have their first jab they could conceivably require anyone over 70 to provide proof of having at least one jab prior to entry. Then do something similar once everyone in 2A has had plenty of time to get the vaccine and so forth. Yes this would slow down getting into the ground but it would provide an incentive for people to get the jab.

I think the thing with pollies getting the vaccination is I can 't imagine many people are influenced by their actions. Back in the 60s maybe there was a bit more of an admiration for our leaders. Most people seem to feel politicians are irrelevant and certainly not to be admired. I know that as a female seeing Julia Gillard get vaxxed did nothing to encourage me. They need to be looking for influencers who are relevant to those group who are hesitant. Politcians are not going to influence those anti vaxxing mommy bloggers. Sports people might be a start for a huge swathe of Australians.

I was just posting my view. And I felt that it was not a good look. However, I accept that you have a different view and that’s okay. 😀

I would have jumped in at the start, if allowed. Maybe a few million others would as well. Do we really rely on the pollies to show us inspiration? 😉

Those who are still making up their mind would soon realise that we did the right thing.

Is anyone familiar with the data mining program being used to select eligible 1b patients? I got a call from my clinic asking me if I wanted to book in for my jab as I am 1b??? I am well under the age limit have no qualifying medical conditions and am not a frontline worker 🤷🏻‍♀️

So, they know more about you than you know. 😳
