The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

I can't recall reading when Victoria will grant freedoms to those unvaccinated business owners as I have a few that I want to visit, but they are vaccine hesitant.

Maybe at 90%, but Dan likes to have people tune into to his announcements so I think we may not get much clarity as to what will/won't be given back when we reach 90% for a while.

In Vic while we have noted that vaccinations still need to rise in Greater Melbourne in general and in the hot LGA's in particular, the other aspect is that vaccinations also need still to in particular to increase in the under 40 cohort as this is where the majority of cases are occurring and also where vaccination rates are lowest.

While this cohort is less affected health wise if infected, they do tend to spread the virus more including to older cohorts.

.Over the last week the second dose rate in the under 40 cohort has jumped about 12%. So this cohort is say roughly a fortnight away from mainly all being over 70%. In the LGA's with the highest cases they also have a younger average age than the LGA's with less cases.

It is also worth noting that in terms of protection, and in assisting to control transmission that the vaccine takes 10 or more days to work well, and so it is really the vaccination rate of say a fortnight back that determines the current cases present, and in terms of hospitalisations the vaccination rates of a month ago.

Vaccinations as of the 17th. So the percentages will be higher on the 20/21st when Vic reaches 70% double vaxxed, and for this cohort perhaps roughly 6% higher.

In NSW virtually all of this cohort is now at 70% or greater (state average 80 %).

So by the end of November VIC should have reached 80% double dose for every age group 16+, and maybe 12-15 as well.

In about a week’s time every age group 16+ should have reached 80% first dose or very, very close to it.

I would like to see a gender breakdown of the 20-29 age bracket. I wouldn't be surprised if females are well behind males, the unfounded & ridiculous concerns/misinformation over fertility and vaccines is there.

Females are more highly vaccinated in those cohorts. I would suspect one reason being the dominance of women in healthcare, aged care and in pre-school.

In VIC males appear to have stronger levels in some of the younger age groups with females doing better in the older age groups.

You can see the jurisdictional breakdown on the government's health website.

Unless we are looking at different things the graph for Vic would seem to show that females are more highly vaccinated in Vic in the younger cohorts.

Hmmm. Looking at the blue bars, the second one from the bottom clearly shows a higher number of males as does the third from the bottom. Though not sure what the percentages of the population are showing. I guess that's a reflection though that male population is higher in younger age cohorts pushing up the raw numbers. The grey bar showing the population that hasn't had a dose is longer for the males in those age ranges.

Interestingly the national one does show the population percentage number and has some middle aged ranges with slightly higher male vaccination rates than those for females.

Naughty slow QLD LGA’s getting a good smacking from our Premier!

Honestly it’s a nice refreshing change that there’s no more shrieking at NSW for spreading the virus everywhere and now it’s at our slow uptake of the vaccine. Great. Get it done!

Annastacia Palaszczuk zeros in on unvaccinated regions as shocking vaccine lag is revealed

The Queensland Premier has threatened regional towns with localised lockdowns if they do not radically speed up their vaccination rate, as it’s revealed one town won’t hit the 80 per cent vaccination target until June next year.

At its current rate, Cherbourg, a small town near the Wondai State Forest, about 250km from Brisbane, will not hit 80 per cent for another eight months.

Only 32.3 per cent of residents had received even a first dose, with the second dose rate sitting below 25 per cent.

She said the state’s borders would be open for fully vaccinated interstate travellers from December 17 – or when the state hits an 80 per cent double-dosed vaccinated rate, whichever comes first.

The Premier threatened lockdowns will return in regional areas if they did not get their jab rates up.

Yes, I was more looking at the fully vaccinated rate (orange). The recent compulsory vaccinations however have probably pushed up males working in construction causing the first dose (blue) rate to push up.

Vic has broken the 100K daily vaccination rate mark for the first time.
There was one other day that was recorded as higher, but that actually had doses from the previous day as well.

100,294 doses.

Second doses now up to 67.99%. Up from 66.73%. So 1.26% in a day. So 70% should now be passed on Weds.

First doses 88.81%. Up 0.36%. So should hit on 90% Friday. Maybe Thursday if the rate lifts slightly.

In just over a week the rates should be much better in most LGA's and age groups that are currently still low..

‘You have 12 days’ QLD unvaccinated told, as vaccination timeline set amid regional jabs push

The Premier says people have 12 days to get vaccinated to be fully protected when borders open to hotspots.

Current view of the rollout by dose for OECD nations, at Our World In Data. A reminder that this is share / TOTAL population; not just the +16s or whatever other counts a nation might track.

In the 8 weeks since August 23rd, Australia has moved from position 37/38 for first doses, then ahead of New Zealand, at 38, to position 19/38, with a number more countries including the U.K. set to be overtaken within a few days of now. We're still adding doses at a rate of roughly 1% / total population every 2 days; 2nd doses have been a bit quicker in recent weeks. Aside a few, like NZ, who moved ahead, most others are taking 10-20 days to add that same amount, per population.

I was just reading that he's said that if you're unvaccinated, don't plan on waiting him out. Well into 2022.

The under performing (i.e. below 80% double dosed) areas of Greater Sydney:

and Regional NSW:

Hopefully the red ones with under 70% can get a move on before Nov 1, quite a few of the orange are only a day away from 80%.

Inner City Sydney data will be quite out. A huge number of its 2019 residents have abandoned ship
Agreed - was just typing something similar. I don't actually expect to see Sydney Inner City to shift that much more, as a larger proportion of the 2019 ERP (Estimated Resident Population) in the CBD that was there is likely not here now, or not resident in that area, to be vaccinated against the denominator.
