The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

I'm kind of the same. In surveys I'm doing that relates to covid, I've been putting down travel, reduced restrictions and protecting myself as priorities. Protecting the community didn't make the top of the list.

It’s falling down the list everywhere on polls because now everyone in AU (well the vast majority) have access to the vaccine to protect themselves. So people are now, after two very long years quite rightly now shifting focus.

Interesting. The TGA has granted a provisional determination for the Moderna jab for kids aged 6-11, an important step towards potentially granting provisional approval.

I might have to get my 5YO a fake ID

QLD has finally gone past 80% first dose for 16+ (80.1%), the last state or territory to do so.

On the national average 35-39 and up age groups are now all past 80% fully vaccinated.

On the national average 16-19 is at 79.9% first dose, so when today's numbers are released tomorrow every age group 16-19 and up except 20-24 should be past 80% first dose, and 20-24 should get there with numbers released sometime on the weekend.

As a country, under 1 flag, the green n gold, we have reached 90%..... Huge great achievement, bring on the 3rd jabs, and my passport which is in the process of being renewed!!

16-19 has reached 70.3% fully vaccinated. Every age group 16-19 and up has gone past 70% fully vaccinated.

35-39 has reached 90% first dose. Every age group 35-39 and up except 45-49 has reached that mark.

QLD has reached 70.25% fully vaccinated for 16+ leaving just WA yet to reach 70%.

VIC has reached 70.66% fully vaccinated for 12-15.

Liam Jones who plays or rather did play for Carlton in the AFL has refused mandatory vaccination and has retired from football. Estimated to be on around $400k per year
Well since he obviously does not care about the health of his teammates and their families including elderly relatives it is good that he is not in a position to easily infect them anymore.

Hmm, I'm sure he'll find another job paying $400k for a 20 something year old. Yet to complete any formal qualification. With 3 months off per year.

Those jobs dime a dozen!

He'll be back in 2023 on less than half the money and with 2 jabs...some people don't know how good they have it, until they lose it.

FWIW I don't necessarily support mandatory vaccination as an absolute rule but if that's the law then so be it. At least he is accepting his fate, in a sense.

He has indeed taken responsibility for his decision which is, these days, to be admired. Don't like his decision though. Unlike others who force to company/organisation to do the deed when they have no choice.

If he continues to refuse to get jabbed he'll even have trouble getting a job as a box boy at the local super market, given the majors have vaccine mandates.

What’s the evidence he does not care?.
That he did not want to be vaccinated?
What’s the proof that 2Jab CovidVax sustainably and significantly reduced transmission of the CovidDelta. I’m skeptical that it actually does

In my opinion the evidence that he doesn't care about other people is that he apparently does not want to be vaccinated even though there is a significant amount of written documentation showing that vaccination reduces the chance of becoming infected and thus of infecting other people. If you are unconvinced that these and a number of other articles available on-line are incorrect I am not scientifically qualified to argue otherwise. But then again I get the flu shot every year, have been vaccinated against smallpox etc etc and equally have no capability to argue whether scientists and doctors are correct in telling me that they are effective but on the basis of overwhelming probability I accept their opinions.

To quote from the last article I posted Ross Kedl PhD Professor of Immunology & Microbiology, University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine -

Kedl said the public needs to understand that infectious disease experts are far from muddling through all this and making changes willy-nilly.

Instead, he said, the public needs to know that decades — even centuries — of research have gone into this.

“People think we’re groping in the dark; seeing things we’ve never seen,” he said. “But we have years of concrete research. How did we get here? An appreciation of the last 150 years of vaccine study.”

In my opinion
It’s amazing that so many researchers don’t know whether CovidVax significantly and sustainably reduces transmission or not of Delta and more studies are required. But some here seem to know better. Read the articles again and others. The jury is still out.

So I will refrain from calling people who are CovidUnvaxxed irresponsible or don’t care. It is always more complicated than that.

I wonder: does anyone here know the “personal reasons” why Liam Jones did not want to be vaccinated?.
