The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Throwing out /Tipping Pfizer down the sink. It is reported we have tons of the stuff, approaching expiry date, that will have to be destroyed. I doubt it will be donated to 3rd world countries, but dumped on the sly. If doctors/providers don't know how to draw and dilute the stuff, we sure have some dumb people. Novavax is MIA.

If anyone is listening, do what Singapore will be doing. 1/3 doses for kids under 12. I presume aspiration is a MUST as any intravenous leakage is proven to damage the heart. Denmark aspirates all needles, and it is extra important for young ones. Singapore aspirates?

I'm sure enlightened parents in the ACT would go through the lot real quick - perhaps just days.
They don't do it anymore, but in the 60's doctors gave the kiddies about 6 jellybeans for taking the needle. ACT is a world first, and nasty covid resents the 99% double dose vaccinations, and is heading down the below 16 bracket.

Tens of thousands of doses of Pfizer were junked in all states last week (had expiry end Oct) - it’s to be expected in a roll out this big.

Awesome, a third vertex.

But back on topic, as a member of my implausibly large and geographically spread family purportedly once allegedly said.

People in WHO must be shocked. Looking at PNG and Vanuatu, (Thailand?). I am shocked there was no viable way to accept such stock. Or is it not allowed to re-sell without permission?
Maybe Cwth adds an Medicare surcharge for WA and QLD and NT for failing to take up shots.
Could have been used as boosters on a walk in no appointment basis.

Say there are small amounts of doses in each of a large number of practices about to expire, logistically gathering them and sending them overseas would be extremely difficult, not to mention being able to assure the country overseas that all of the doses have been stored properly all the time, and then there’s testing and distributing them over there. Some things just aren’t practical to do.

More vaccines than will be injected are ordered because some waste is expected and when it’s urgent to get vaccinated it’s better to have too much vaccine somewhere than too little.

Australia now above France and UK for population double dosed (single-dose is the number at end of bar. Dark green is single)

Yeah I wish these doses could be sent to our Pacfic neighbors. Or even get creative to encourage Aboriginal communities to get vaxxed if they have been hesitant. Set up kiosks and give them a Coles/Woolies voucher and say "Christmas dinner is on us for vaxxed people" or something like that. It's cheaper to give them vouchers than treat them in hospital if they get sick.

Who cares in the end? I don't, we're going to hit 90% 12+ Aus wide by Christmas. At the top end of the race of covid vax.
NSW already there, VIC in week or so.
Boosters in motion.

We live in a wasteful world, just look around ourselves.

Just want to get back living as close to normal / as we previously asap.

Waste is part of life in western world, some can protest all they like, nothing changes, they don't even change themselves even though they like to think so, it's all about economics & our constantly advancement way of life.

Anybody for plastic bags, clothes from cheap asian nations or premium from Europe, new phone each year or so, jump on a plane for weekend away??? my hand is up, yes please.

Waste of vaccines is a shame. The volume of single use plastic waste that has been and continues to be generated by the volume of testing is also a shame.

NSW is at 90%+ double vaxed for 16+ not quite there yet for 12+, but not far away. Only ACT has hit that milestone.

It is far from a certainty that Qld and WA will be 90% 12+ double vaxed by Christmas.

The volume of single use plastic waste that has been and continues to be generated by the volume of testing is also a shame.

Not in the least due to all those disposable masks.

I’d say almost zero chance of it in WA and QLD and only a slim chance in SA.
All 3 most likely around New years
Can you please interpret the announcement today? 🤷‍♀️😂. Are they sticking to the roadmap they released a couple of weeks ago and in particular to overseas arrivals?

And everyone will be relieved to hear that apparently pizza boxes have been pretty much dismissed as a delta transmission point.

Today was only about next Tuesday’s domestic borders opening. They are sticking to the roadmap though

So there are 6 LGAs in NSW with fully vax rates under 80% (and two where first dose is also under 80%):

Two metro:
* Sydney LGA - 72.6% (First Dose 75.3)
* Randwick - 78.3%

But we know the denominators are wrong from those LGAs due to all that empty student accommodation near the 4 universities UTS, Sydney Uni, Notre Dame, UNSW in those LGAs not to mention all those international English colleges, Hospitality colleges and the main TAFE campuses.

Unless the Sydney LGA denominator is rectified, no one living there will be able to travel interstate without quarantine.

Four Regional:
* Moree - 79.2%
* Tenterfield - 78.5%
* Byron - 75%
* Edward River - 64% (First dose 68.9)

Looking at first doses only Edward River is of concern, as all others have first doses exceeding 80%.

The international issue was in the roadmap for next week (80%) so it's strange it wasn't mentioned. I heard on radio this morning that international students were arriving in early December as well and the hostels there were going to use are cancelled.

Was interested to see if Tullamarine was in an acceptable LGA which it appears to be. CBD is problematic.

Doesn't it seem illogical that a fully vaccinated international student from a country with less than 80% double dose vaccination and thousands of active cases can enter SA via MEL airport without any quarantine. Yet a fully vaxed Aussie who live Sydney or Melbourne CBD has to have a negative test and do 7 days home quarantine?

More madness!

I have posted in the general vaccine thread the agreement's Pfizer insists on when signing a supply agreement.One is that you must have permission from Pfizer to resell or gift any doses you have received from Pfizer.

Then there is this article today.

Wot? You want consistency? We aren't sure though about the international arrivals issue as it was completely ignored.

WA has reached 69.97% fully vaccinated. So when today's numbers are released tomorrow they should go past 70% fully vaccinated.
