The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes

Just one reason I refuse every time my win10 box tries to helpfully prompt me to upgrade to win11. As long as it's optional I'm staying put thank you very much :D

ah yes, as we say "Have you tried turning it off and on again...." :D

and yes, I would often be responsible for servers with uptimes over a year. More recently we'd reboot only to install a new kernel with security patches and the like because, you know, that has to be a thing, but yes in general very solid reliability outside the Windows ecosystem. Though Unix systems can have their moments... get a runaway process go mad, java chewing up all your RAM for no good reason and sending you into swap hell or badly written applications (often also Java based :D ) sending CPU's into meltdown.... but often these could be solved without reboot.

But I digress... :D
As a Java dev, these pains are generally down to poor developer knowledge rather than the language. However, your pain is real and one that I do my best to alleviate for others when I am training juniors (and seniors who somehow only get that title because of time served rather than skill).

The worst mistake at work I've made wrecked an Aix server completely. A tiny little closing ' at the end of a parameter for the file erase command. It traversed throughout the system. I proofread the shell script three or four times over and still missed the error. A workplace experience kid level of a rookie mistake.

Oh bet that gave you the SMITs ! (Lame aix joke)

like someone trying rm -rf * in the root dir..

we've all been there. You do it once and learn.. never again. :)

Perhaps I would have great credentials to join QF IT. 🤭
I think you're past the Work Experience stage..

Man, I am looking forward to shooting the breeze on a lounge crawl with you one day, fella.

*nix jargon to me is as Men At Work would say: "do you speaka my language? He just smiled and gave me an Ubuntu sandwich... and he said..."

Can I sneak in an O/T comment, but my only real 'IT story'?

When I was a geology Uni student, a mate and I gave up hitting rocks for an afternoon to venture into the 'commuter centre' building to get a plot of data off the Burroughs mainframe. (yes, this was c1980). We were very frustrated at not being able to get the damn thing to work for an hour or so. Reading the manual yet again, we came across the command DUMP BURROUGHS. Perhaps more effective than a geology pick through the console, which is what we were contemplating at that point. We guttoed out, though.

I still wonder what would have happened if we used that.

Anyone else's homepage without the menu bar at the top, so unable to login? Same issue across Chrome and Safari.

Chrome is displaying normally for me - but I have seen alerts for Chrome users on various websites saying that a change in Chrome could prevent people from logging in and that they were working on it.

I ticked over into LTG earlier this year and just noticed that my digital membership card in the app is still showing LTS. I've logged out of my account and back in but no change to the card. Anyone else encountered this issue before?

Torn whether to post here or WCMO or both!

Booking an international award flight on QF doesn’t prompt for DoB but if you click through to APIS you see this…

Booked 2x J CRs on QF metal earlier this evening and the e-Ticket was no where to be seen before I remembered (and I usually post here) to check APIS. Sure enough, no DoB but once entered, the eTicket email arrives…

Who knows how many cancelled reward flights are due to this issue and what must be a simple fix?

Agree when it comes to partner flights with short TTL

I know woth QF, back in the day with QF flights - reward or paid - they elwould send an email either the same or next day as a reminder to do it before ticketing.

I resume that is still a thing.

Qantas changed a classic flight reward that I have booked which has blown out my wait for the connecting flight by over 8 hours 🥱 I've got the options to accept the changes, change the flight or cancel the booking but whenever I click on the option to change flights, I'm met with "We are having trouble processing your booking. Please try again or contact us if the problem persists (3006)". I suspect this is due to there being no reward flights available in the same class for one of my flights but its a shame I am going to have to go down the rabbit hole of calling Qantas to even begin looking at changing this. Would be handy if you could at least load up your flights to see where the issue lies. Anybody else had a similar experience with this?

Some things work -
Today at 1:57pm I cancelled a MEL-DFW r/t Business award. (After the recent timing changes I received an email implying cancel at no charge. )

I received the "An Update on your Refund Request" email at 2:15pm and logging on to QFF, the 253K points were back in my account with no 6K fee.

Now to wait for the $650 in +++ to hit the CC.
