The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes

So my comment about rubbish CMS stands imo

It's one thing if someone googles and follows a dead link - that is outside the control of the website maintainers, but this is a link from a live page that points to obvious test page(s) thathat are NOT live Why? Still raises the question - testing what changes? And how does this get through QA?

But more generally, as an IT guy, this is so poor that the website should not be being built with such links (test or otherwise) that are dead. It's sloppy and points to poor management. Frankly the most basic CMS's should deploy a complete site without dead links - its a most basic function of them.

So either way, something has gone rather wrong.

Also, on an another note, there are fare classes listed under Economy and Discount economy. Yet, when I search using the calculator tool, it says these fares are not offered. For example: Blr-Hkg on Cathay

Test links in a prod instance? Does this mean that QF has not stood up a test/train environment but are playing around with the live system? This would explain many of the anomalies and malfunctions in the system. And this, if anything, is a very poor approach to business systems.

It's hard to tell from the outside. They bloody well should have a dev and test/QA environment going - not accessable to public - and that would be normal. However that links to URLs containing things like "test-pages" from a live page suggests either a mistake deploy from say dev to the prod environment by accident instead of QA (and apparently a CMS that isn't making sure deployed links are complete/not dead) or some other situation that has resulted in this situation.

I can see how it might have happened, but it does scream, dare I say it, the involvement of the much loved "work experience kids" as we say in running things. A properly run and audited setup should catch this kind of thing so it doesn't wind up live.

Just checked.. still live 🤦‍♂️

Nothing new there at all. Still remember one time when they tinkered with the website and put it up live. At that time there was a “book business” button. It didn’t work after they mucked around with the website. You couldn’t book business class at all for awhile.

...and I asked for the lowest economy pricing. I won't dare to ask for PE or more... o_O

Came across a little pricing anomaly last night when redeeming a GV. The main booking engine produced whatever price it did but the GV redemption came back at a slightly different price. I wonder why?

At least back in time, supermarkets had a checkout scanning policy that if the shelf price vs checkout price were different, you'd get the item for free. It's a pity QF hasn't signed up to this yet... 😂

The work experience kids have run over the itinerary email function. I didn't receive the customary booking confirmation email but my itinerary shows up both in the app and website MMB, and RJ shows a ticket number, so I trust it's all good. But I like to have a printout of the PDF on me just in case but now I can't even get it emailed from the MMB even after manually replacing the system generated email address. The email function has previously worked all ok so this is an newer enhancement, again.

Anyone here with the same or is this a personal issue?
