All the others, eh?
To be clear, I meant pricing ex OZ. Impressive research .
All the others, eh?
What you are looking at isn't something isn't exclusive to QF in terms of pricing.
Name me an airline who doesn't price according to the market of origin. It is a well known practise, with many AFF members suggesting you purchase the reverse fairs where possible.
Don't have a go at QF on this one, but instead the entire market for this practise...
All the others, eh?
I just love statements like this!!
...although more than 66% of your findings support sjd's hypothesis? :?:
The hypothesis that it's cheaper to purchase away from your home market? I don't think so ...
To be fair to QF they are not the only airline that prices this way, all the others do to....On the topic of flights which are more expensive if you book orginating in Australia;...
Well Qantas out of Adelaide probably can't compete with the new Air Asia flights to ASIA via KL starting October 31st .......even though every direct flight out of Adelaide I have been on in the last 3 years, has been 90% loaded to absolutely full including the jump seats! The only reasonably priced X Adelaide to Asia fares with Qantas have been via unfilled Sydney to somewhere connections! When you have a family in tow an extra $200 or $300 dollars per ticket makes a big difference!
I think AA have the right idea, as we will be flying to Asia more often, with cheaper fares now available. Have booked the family with AA in late December, where we simply could not afford to go with Qantas peak season prices. An eight hour flight does not need the fancy trimmings, and its great to travel in near new well maintained Aircraft with pleasant customer service oriented cabin staff! Bring on the competition!
Fair enough. I guess you can understand the confusion, given sjd's point was that fares originating in Australia are more expensive.
However, I was extremely surprised to see that the CX fare was slightly cheaper ex-Australia. So a sincere thanks for posting that point!
Well, I'd actually prefer to fly over the continental US, to get the Wifi onboard for that part of the trip. I believe AA is even going to offer it on the transatlantic flights as well.
Price wise, seems fairly competitive vs DXB transfer as well.
The Sydney to San Francisco flight is the one I miss most. The flight through LA and the change-over of terminals to AA to fly the short hop to SF is terrible!

Diary of a little irishman: "The Board has just appointed me (the CEO of Jetstar) as CEO of QANTAS. Must be because of the job I was doing on Jet*. Must mean they want me to do a similar job on QANTAS. Now how to execute...I know ... expand Jet*, shrink QANTAS and eventually merge the two as the new QANTAS, but with Jet* cost structure and employment terms and conditions. Might not happen overnight but ...."
Just a thought...
I can sympathize with others on this. Quite some time ago we lost ALL Qantas flights north from Darwin and everyone of them was replaced by coughstar. We used to have a 767 service (from ADL) to Singapore, which apart from being full service, offered Business Class seats and a cargo hold that took containerized freight - great for mango exports and the like. Qantas, in it's infinite wisdom scrapped all its flights from Darwin north bound and replaced them with a very bad budget carrier. Now we have international visitors, some of whom have paid many thousands of dollars to travel First or Business Class, who get as far as Singapore and are then quite literally herded onto coughstar and introduced to the worst inflight service one can be subjected to.
It is interesting how little Qantas cares about a smaller market like Darwin, as we now have more competition returning to the market with the recent arrival of Philippine Airlines (DWN to MNL daily); Silk Air (DWN to SIN daily), the return of Air Asia to Bali (not bad for a budget carrier) and in November the return of Malaysian Airlines with flights 5 times a week to KL. But not a hint from Qantas about bringing back full service aircraft, even on the heavily booked Singapore run.
While it means I don't get to build FF points with QF, at least I don't have to suffer with coughstar any longer!
