The "I am in self-isolation" thread

N Swan lost me a few days ago when he said that the schools couldn’t close because it would mean too many mothers would need to stay home to look after children. The idea of fathers looking after children appeared not to occur to him.

Well - half way for us - not much to report - still healthy, no dead bodies on the balcony - spent lots of time cancelling remainder of our aborted trip (after 4 days of a planned 6 weeks - cancelled cruise from Cape Town to the Seychelles followed by 17 days land-based travel) - filed first TI claim yesterday - will report back on suitable thread re success or otherwise of this. Now working on 5 week European trip booked for mid-July - assuming it's off, short of a miracle. Looking at buying an exercise bike - will wait until if/when further restrictions are applied - would prefer outdoor walks and tennis (assuming court is still open). Stay safe and happy (it's breaking my heart to see the pictures of queues at Centerlink).
I guess besides essential front line medical troops, supermarket workers, there are still people whose jobs are absolutely essential and that would be those working in travel claims department,. Under the pump and then some

Day 9 and we can see our self isolating has gone well so far. The Wilshire Stay Sharp knives and the 3M titanium bladed scissors have remained in the drawer.
Have enjoyed the AFF humour thread and we watch Donald if we need a bit more.
Worked into the night and the suppliers to our business for February are clear to pay a bit earlier than normal.
Was super impressed with our GP dropping in on granny to give her an early flu shot at her home with SIL present to watch out for complications. He was rewarded with a Diana Madeline for going the extra mile.
We miss the human direct contacts but have accepted phone and email is the safe way now.
Mrscove seems nice and we get to see and hear our sons most nights.

You do realise that what you are doing now isn't that much different once your 14 days is over? Because you are pretty much describing my life right now. Along with everyone else whose work is not either essential or still operating.

Our business is continuing as we supply to the agricultural and mining markets.
Mrscove is warning me about going to work when our isolation is up as I am classed in the high risk group being over 70, heart disease and had pneumonia.
I do hope people start paying attention to what is going on.

In Qld public system,
Well I am going into isolation over the weekend. My colonoscopy has been brought forward to this Monday as the rumour is elective proceedures will cease on April 1st or the first weekend in April.
Won't be out in the garden Monday morning.

the urgent elective surgery is still going ahead but anything that is cat 3 and a lot of the cat 2 are being delayed - people seem to be very understanding of the delay - no one really wants to be in hospital unnecessarily at present

I think the PMs media session a few minutes ago may have just aborted your Monday appointment. Might pay to recheck if you have one now.

So does the IV in COVID-19 stand for Introverts? (I think they got the V and I the wrong way around ;)).

Have just been on Skype with my folks back in Perth, she's just retired from the education sector but still in contact with a lot of those who are still teaching who are saying the same. I said to her that maybe they shouldn't be teachers, as they've got rocks in their head. If they have a look at how other countries have been doing it (UK, for example) they'll see that those that can WFH can and will (and help look after the kids if need be) but those that form part of essential services can still send their kids to school.

The high school I went to in Perth has sent out comms with exactly that arrangement and it was interesting (but expected) to note that those kids that do continue to go to school every day, will still learn by participating in the remote learning program that's been put in place. So the only difference is they're doing it from school whereas other students will be doing it from home.

My niece has autism and it's becoming very difficult to try and explain the situation to her, she wants to go to school and is getting upset she can't. I'm sure once she's older that mindset will change, but alas right now not the case ;)

I'm still surprised to hear that there's no mandated WFH, although is a "please stay at home" message now I believe; conflicting messages mean a lot of people are probably feeling very confused.

Maybe you get toilet paper with a truffle?
I have to confess when I went into the city to have with son I would vist Haigh's so quite aware of their prices .
Just tried to do an online order and almost fainted it was over $400 . I have never even at Xmas time with overseas presents ever had that amount
So sadly my chocolate will have to be hoarded a tad as it is ok the restriction list for woollies. My GP willbe thrilled. Lol

Listening to his TV interviews today , he was adamant that WA wouldn’t make the same mistakes as other states — i think he actually mentioned NSW

It appears that the W.A. Government, at least, is ensuring that cruise ship passengers will not be mingling with the community as a whole.

Day nine: 50th birthday came and went. And it was a lovely day. A couple of unexpected gifts arrived and our friends dropped around with a cake and present for me because they'd guessed I wouldn't have one. I was actually gearing up to ring a colleague at work to ask her to pick one up for me and drop it around because she loves close by when this lovely surprise happened. We chatted briefly through the front fly screen, observing social distancing and then I had a little cry at the kindness of people. At dinner time we opened a bottle of Perrier Jouet I'd bought (thank you Uncle Dan!) for the occasion and Skyped with a few people. A good day.

Since then, I have emptied the spare fridge and been basically using it to manage the (slight) overabundance of food that MrSuze panic bought online when we got home and that arrived on Monday. I have made soups, and a casserole is in the offing today. Also, I made two loaves of sourdough white bread to supplement the brown bread we have and learnt how to make sourdough hot cross buns (this was a surprisingly easy thing to do and I will do it again soon!). Leftover sourdough starter will be used today to make crackers for cheese (you have to feed it up to use it and this creates a lot of waste, which people have learnt not to waste!). Weeding has been done, but the darn green bin is chokkers and I need it emptied before I continue with that endeavour. I have had two phone consults with medical professionals and one with work as I am technically still on annual leave.

Basically, as I am well, I'm getting a pooload of stuff done. Hubby and I have been talking about maybe tackling the cracking of the walls of the house (it's plaster and lathe, and basically every wall in the house moves when the weather changes - we HOPE the house isn't actually falling down very slowly, but it is 93 years old). The only downer is the inability to leave to go to Bunnings, pick up our post and get a walk in. Otherwise, I've started to enjoy it. :)

The thing is, I am pretty much in self isolation now and I have no reason to be other than avoiding contact. I am ordering everything online. This is the new order once you lot are out on parole!
