The "I am in self-isolation" thread

I think I heard from a Government Health Expert that Day 3 is the earliest day that symptoms may occur, then Day 5-7 are the most likely days and then a run off after then. Hopefully this works for the half-way markers.

I tried to dig up something

We might be having a funeral around here if MrMac keeps offering 'helpful' suggestions as I toil away on the huge gardening project (we moved house 7 weeks ago and embarked on a major prune/tidy up). We were saying last night we dodged a bullet when we auctioned our house last year & bought this very quickly. Reminded us we'd done similar in the past, when a previous house sold very well indeed and the next week the GFC hit. Who knows what we willl have to negotiate in the future but it's not going to be pretty

Note to self: ensure Julesmac and MrMac don't buy a property again.

Hmmm gardening during self isolation. If someone disappeared then who would notice for a long time? ;)

It's all about how you compost.... and some of the compost bins at Bunnings would fit a body

Yes, I remember that. @VPS and I were likewise ramping up our house sales. I can't imagine how RE Agents are going to manage. Their overheads are massive. And sellers spend so much money on advertising, prep etc. While we had put a lot of our house sale into super I was bemoaning that super had crashed. Then yesterday I read that prices would slump 20% which means the young uns might be able to afford a house, and then last night, Wham!

I expect you will get away with it. The police will be too busy patrolling the borders and locking up those not social distancing.
Not sure...son in law's a detective; and as "Pa" is one of the few words our grandson can say his absence might be noticed. Dunno what I'm grizzling about, I've been trying to amend some of his habits for 49 years - but I won't be defeated!

Did anyone else hear the ABC's Dr Norman Swan's 'Corona Cast', where he dealt with exercise? Stated a couple of times that if you are in self isolation, you can't leave the house/apartment - ie not outside.

This was news to me - I have been gardening, sitting on my deck etc, picking veges, chatting to the neighbors across the street ...

So I checked it out. No specific Tasmania guidelines, so we adopt the national ones (opens a PDF):

Outside in one's yard definitely OK - which is common sense, really. Bit shocked that Swan would be ill-informed about this.

I was wondering about this yesterday and hubby goes for a 90min walk in our burbs. Doesnt talk to anyone, doesnt touch anything (handrails ect) so no idea if he should stop or be allowed.

Im planning on fertilizing the lawn, mandarin & lemon trees and Roundup'ing the weeds - its the only "outside" Im planning for the next few weeks.

I've been out in the garden solidly for a week mostly in the back garden. High fences all round, we live in a court and neighbours either sides have their driveways on opposite sides to ours. So the only time we see them is if driving past (cheerily waving of course) and when in the back the only visitors are birds. Fresh air, sunshine and a few jobs to do are a good way of getting through these dark days

You/he are not in self-isolation are you? If no, then quite OK. I think its important to do as much 'normal' stuff as you can, within the current limitations.

He is not digging deep rectangular holes I hope ;)

Was that preventive isolation or for those who test positive? Big difference.

Swan was responding to a question or the issue about how to get enough exercise while in self isolation (non specific). But even if you are in isolation with the virus (I assume that would be the case if symptoms are mild), then I'd struggle to see a uniform prohibition on going outside (but I haven't checked the rules on that). In my case, I wouldn't be talking to neighbours across the road (if they engaged me!!) but I'd be perfectly comfortable within my courtyard. Obviously if in an apartment with the virus, then going outside is probably a complete no-no.

Well - half way for us - not much to report - still healthy, no dead bodies on the balcony - spent lots of time cancelling remainder of our aborted trip (after 4 days of a planned 6 weeks - cancelled cruise from Cape Town to the Seychelles followed by 17 days land-based travel) - filed first TI claim yesterday - will report back on suitable thread re success or otherwise of this. Now working on 5 week European trip booked for mid-July - assuming it's off, short of a miracle. Looking at buying an exercise bike - will wait until if/when further restrictions are applied - would prefer outdoor walks and tennis (assuming court is still open). Stay safe and happy (it's breaking my heart to see the pictures of queues at Centerlink).
