The "I am in self-isolation" thread

Mr. s. and I are starting self-isolation on Saturday. We are partitioning our house on the weekend so our daughter can continue to live with us as she works with special needs children. Most importantly, I am moving all my knitting yarn to the front of the house. We will now have a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. We are going to try to drive somewhere different every day for a walk and maybe try for a second walk around the block later in the day. Our local deli is starting home deliveries next week; they sell all the essentials plus good quality fruit and veges. This could last up to six months. If the schools close down, our daughter can stay separate from us for 2 more weeks.

I'm seeing the impact of school shutdowns already, while Mrs FB and I don't have any children I'm seeing the impact at work e.g. difficult to schedule meetings because people are having to tend to the kids etc.

In WA we are not allowed to leave our property. We had to sit in the rear seat of the Quicksilver limo and we had family get us provisions before we arrived home.
Tomorrow we will get a delivery of goodies into our carport.
Have a work laptop and time has slowed right down for both of us.

The boondocks, eh, skip? I've been looking for them in Brisbane since 1965, when Billiy Joe Royal sang about them; never found them sadly.
How inspiring do you expect a hotel room to be?
I ‘d like it to be a place that I can escape from to drink my welcome drink of chateau glug from a real glass, then adjourn to the restaurant, to eat something from real china with tin cutlery.
Not house arrest and everything served in takeaway.
A hotel room is fine unless you’re compelled to stay in it.
I understand the rationale for all this.
but glad to be home, not hotel alone
Cheers skip

Is Mrs Cove handy with a needle in that case ?

Lucky we’re not using mobile phone GPS to check who’s breaching self-quarantine like they did in Taiwan...

I believe Singapore is using GPS as well. Both Taiwan and Singapore are doing noticeably better than Australia in managing this virus.

I think its because of citizen compliance

Last night a friends partner, I suspect alcohol was involved, started posting her aluminium tin hat theories and how she doesnt believe there will be increase in numbers over the next few weeks. We have increases confirmations overnight and italy had 470+ deaths in 24hrs but apparently its all made up BS. Considering both of them, like me, tick all the boxes on why you should not get this, age, weight, health, to say Im disappointed that someone we like is with such a stupid person is disappointing

I flew back to Australia today and have a domestic connection in business class on a miles redemption booking. At the transfer desk, I asked to be put onto the earlier domestic flight home, so that I wasn't spending 7 hours in the Qantas Lounge prior to going into mandatory self-isolation.

I got a point-blank refusal at the Qantas Transfer Desk, even when escalated to management - they'd rather have me sat in the Lounge for 7 hours and put me onto the original ticketed flight because "my redemption booking is non-changeable"

Fortunately, the Lounge Angel is more pragmatic and is also struggling to understand their logic of requiring me sit in public spaces for any longer than absolutely necessary and is seeing what she can do....!

UPDATE - the Lounge Angel has weaved her magic and within 5 minutes, I'm re-booked onto the earlier flight! Good to see that common sense has prevailed. As she jokingly said "Nothing personal, but we don't want you here any longer than necessary!!" :)

Absolute madness from the staff at the Transfer desk 🤨 glad to hear that sanity prevailed 🥂

Our second honeymoon continues as we start Day 4.
Hadn’t been thinking about getting a mail order doll........
Mrscove still seems like a nice person......SIL has had her hours cut so she can visit granny at her home when we cannot today. Two neighbours visited granny yesterday which is an act of kindness. Then my sons partner arrived with some goodies for her.
Sharp knives remain in the knife drawer........

Day 1 for us. Whilst I am glad it has worked out well for everyone else so far I have to say it has been a huge struggle for us.

I very quickly got on to the internet before we left and started ordering provisions because unlike many here we don't have family locally that can help us. I ordered a few days worth of baby food off of Amazon for our young one which will get us to Monday when our Woolworths online order (hopefully) comes. Incredibly, it arrived the next day and was thankfully well hidden by our awesome postie and not stolen by zombie hoarders in the 2 days it took us to get home. To tide us over until then, I ordered some long life milk from officeworks which may or may not turn up (mainly for bub but I wouldn't mind a coffee or two), and some meals from lite n easy for us adults which I hope come today - I figured even if woolworths sells out of all food there will still be slightly expensive frozen diet food for sale. This is literally just so we can stay fed in the interim.

If any of these fall through I'll be in minor trouble - I can always find ways around it but that will probably involve using uber eats to get what we can in between large gaps where coles/woolworths online has just not been able to fill the gap. What scares me the most is that just because I've managed to book a window with woolworths online does not mean we'll get all or even any of the items we ordered, and I won't know until next Monday.

If you're wondering if it really is as dire as it sounds, behold:

Anyway, we will get there but the logistics have been a challenge. We are very pleased to be isolating ourselves as we have returned from a high risk country (the US) and are very aware that we could infect others if we happen to have become inadvertently exposed ourselves. The cab experience from the airport was very good, we were assigned one of the london style cabs in Melbourne which meant we could self-load our luggage in the back and the only interaction with the driver was to tap the card to pay which I did carefully as well.

The countdown starts now...

I am getting worried about you Cove. You keep using the word 'seems' in reference to Mrs Cove suggesting doubt and the enduring focus on the knives .......

OMG @33kft - I see you are in Melbourne - perhaps if you post your suburb a fellow AFFer could assist with some personal shopping - I'm in self-isolation in Sydney but would certainly assist another local when I get out of jail.

We also have no family in Sydney (even in all of Australia) but have been overwhelmed by assistance from friends and neighbours - in fact we now have almost too much food - even offers to drop take-away cappuccino at our door and when I jokingly complained on WhatsApp that I didn't have any lime for my G&T - the next morning a friend (from another suburb who is still working - frantically due to her job) dropped a care package at my door.

Great idea luxury-lizard.

Just make sure to keep posting daily @cove. If you stop, it will be a sign that Mrscove has been deceiving you and we need to send in the SWAT team.

We are not self isolating per se, however I am now having to WFH week on, week off. It is just about the end of week one and I have created a new phrase (rule) for the Matt_01 household known as "social silence" which takes precedence over "social distancing". 2 out of 3 in the house cannot seem to get their head around this simple concept.
