The "I am in self-isolation" thread

With all this time on peoples hands I think there will be an increase in the number of babies born in 9 months time! Government will no doubt pull the plug on the baby bonus then due to no money left in the till!

Won’t happen. The government will soon announce a plan to recruit a huge army of Social Distancing Inspectors from those casuals laid off by the economic downturn. Their job will be to ensure social distancing protocols are adhered to both outside and inside the bedroom using as a template the huge army of Chinese grandmothers that China used to ensure adherence to the One Child Policy.

Cool thread, I’m a club member! Where’s the T-shirt?

I think I was one of the first into AU compulsory quarantine, arriving SYD just before 7 on Monday morning. Hotel Room on Mon night in BNE was not inspiring, confined to room, and room service all arriving in take away things, as I greeted them in a mask. No glasses or crockery, not even for the welcome drink of house white.:(

Back at home in the boondocks of SEQ much nicer, the drought was gone, the sun shone, the grass had regrown, the dead trees had all come back to life (bar one). Day 1, unpack. Day 2, washing. Day 3, tomorrow, mowing. Day 4, consider turning booked travel into vouchers and make a shopping list.

Future challenges, how to get mail from PO Box, how to get groceries. But can’t solve every problem at once, or I’ll run out of things to do. Plenty booze, ok for frozen meals, rice and pasta, gonna run out of fruit, veg and fresh meat soooon.

silver lining, if we don’t go out, we don’t spend money. Looking forward to next month’s credit card bills :D

cheers skip

And that of course is a major economic problem. Hopefully once you are out of quarantine you will go out and spend some money. Your country is depending on it.

Day 2 and MrSuze and I are getting on each others' nerves, but trying to laugh it off, mostly. Who knows if we will still be together after day 14.

I discovered that doing yoga videos is way hard when you have a fat belly to accommodate.

The cat is whiny too for no apparent reason.

I'm just trying to remind myself that it could be a lot worse, and all the ways that could be.

Currently in Bali (Sanur)... flight leaves tomorrow evening at 21.20 to SYD, then to MEL, then to LST. Will self isolate and work from home for 14 days. Plenty of support for shopping etc. (and have good stocks of TP). It’s going to be weird not seeing another human for 14 days!

Hey, all you pre-retiree couples are getting a serious taste of what it is going to be like in the future.

Should have done what I did at c. age 50 - get divorced.

Happy days... (for me - not you...)

😜 :cool::):p

I'll just leave this here, this is probably one of the most important things after physical health and keeping yourself nourished to consider.

I hope to be self isolating with the family in a few days when back home, but today's decision by the Sri Lankan government has made the path a little murkier... they've closed all international airports from about now until 25 Mar (subject to further extension). So our new return plan of DXB-CMB (transit) CMB-MEL has been scuppered.

It'll be interesting to see how we get back to Aus now.

Normally I'd suggest 14 days would be perfect for nutting out a future oneworld award journey, but can't see much travel being booked until things normalise. And I can't work from home, so it'll also be interesting to see what I can be allowed to do, or what I can help with during the fortnight.

Thanks Flashback

Not 14 days but i have a cold so been leading by example and staying home not to freak people out with my chesty cough, stuffy nose and sneezing. Its currently day 3 of WFH for me.

1st day, as my retired hubby told me, I was "in the way" just by being here

2nd day I stayed in my office while he played guitar, did his flexibility and bands workout, played more guitar and had a Nashville marathon on dvd. I currently have a colleciton of 3 cups and a plate on my desk. Oh, and I had a 3.30pm nap!

Today I put a nightie on and ugg slippers and shuffled 10mtrs from our bed to my work desk..... Im going down hill fast

Edit: Its currently 8.45am and hes listening to original ACDC.... loud... while bleaching the house out and cleaning like Mrs Doubtfire

I read that @JohnM . I am still with MrsCove after 46 years of marriage. Still watchful of those Wilshire Stay Sharp knives of course.
One of my friends is on Silver Singles that his children put him online. He is a 1949 model like you and me. We have met a couple of the ladies.
Only 12 days to go.
Today it will be roast lamb with veggies.
We are still talking......

Day 2 for us - no dead bodies on the balcony yet. We have so much food provided by friends and neighbours that we can stay in isolation for a month (hopefully, of course, we'll stay healthy and not need this).

Spent the morning cancelling hotels in the Seychelles and Mauritius for the post (cancelled) cruise part of our trip. Got to hand it to those big chains (booked direct) - all pre-paid bookings refunded. I know where my loyalty will be directed in the future (assuming we have any money left to travel after the blood bath on the share market). Called AmEx re travel insurance coverage - response not clear - told to submit claim - this will take a bit of time to assemble - still working through "rats & mice" bookings (eg Air Seychelles, car hire, ferry, ....)
