The "I am in self-isolation" thread

If we do that we can differentiate between self-isolation (voluntary), and 'quarantine' (Imposed by the authorities). EDIT these are colloquial terms, not medical technical terms.

I wonder if it would be informative to have a new icon, perhaps like the online now one, to indicate who is currently in self-isolation.

Arrived back home last night 11:00pm from cruise in the South Pacific. Cupboard is bare and our daughter won't come near us as she is expecting 1st c hild in less than 1 month. We were instructed to home isolate 14 days from our last port (and only port) Noumea. (2 x ports were cancelled because on Covid-19) This means that we have to stay home until the 29th March. Unfortuneatley because we have been living up in Tweed Heads as well as Sydney for the last 2 years we decided to cancel our Sydney home internet. We have just been coping with mobile data but the old Netflix sucks up mobile data big time. It looks like I will have to get addicted to the 'Days of our Lives' and 'The Bold and the Beautiful'

Rather than face the resumption of study, I've started sorting digital photos. Two weeks isolation is not going to be enough ...

Get back to studying. We are all eagerly waiting to see the thesis published.

Of course some of us assume the thesis is written in the same style as the travelogue with lots of amazing photos..

If I publish the 'juicy bits'in full (very salacious letter extracts) it will be a best seller

For those who feel they are unable to exercise while confined to a small space, take a look at the (50 year old!) Canadian Airforce exercise plan. You can google it or use something like https://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/~rfburger/5bx-plan.pdf as a reference.

Basically, it was developed to ensure airforce staff could remain fit in just 11 minutes a day, in a confined space, with no equipment.
Well that’s a blast from the past! I started following their plan when I was 17 years old - even had the book (since disintegrated). I still do the exercises (dropped down more than a few levels!)

Self Isolation is a different thing in different countries.

I arrived home from SIN on March 10th and while company policy did not dictate it, I was "requested" to self isolate for 14 days and Work From Home (which fortunately I can do).

Since I arrived home before the specific rules came into force my self isolation is different.

Even with that, the guidelines are specific in that "work, school, childcare, university or public gatherings" are forbidden.

So into day 7 and I have been fine, to be honest I will continue with this as long as I can as I believe the world out there will change significantly in the next six months.

(Although I really did not realise how much soup my wife cooks and consumes during the day ...)
I know how much soup my wife makes so looking forward to it if I need to self-isolate. It was usually a wek-end treat. I have a couple of acres to wander around and work in. Full time job in itself. Get those roundtoit jobs done!

Mr LL and I arrived home after 4 days in Cape Town (pulled the pin on our travels when the first stage (Ponant cruise) was cancelled at the 11th hour. So we're in self-isolation for the next 14 days - we live in a Sydney city apartment - fortunately with 2 very large balconies. A friend who lives in our building (and has a key) pre-stocked our fridge with a few essentials. Two others are doing shopping for us today (one for fruit and veggies, the other for other grocery items) - fortunately we have sufficient paper products to last a few weeks and sufficient wine, beer and gin to last a life-time. Another neighbour in our building has offered to leave cooked meals on our door step.

Too jet lagged today to figure out how to wile away the days - focused on unpacking and laundry today - tomorrow will start the painful task of cancelling the no longer required return airline tickets and 17 days of mainly pre-paid hotel bookings - fortunately a number of these are with major chains who are offering penalty-free cancellation. Then it will be onto compiling a travel insurance claim - will report in a more appropriate thread on our success or otherwise with TI (we checked before we left and were told we would be covered but who knows).

Thank goodness you have sufficient booze 😜🍸🍷🍺

Not in isolation yet, but I was due to fly to PNG yesterday but was told by mine not allowed back in. I had bought heaps of food to take in. Hubby still there but I presume will be back sooner rather than later, so went shopping today to stock up in preparation for the self isolation. Problem now is where to put all said groceries. We are lucky, have 4 acres, pool, Netflix, Stan etc...lots to do around the place, and I’m sure hubby will be doing some work from home. Plenty of space for family to come and sit outside on the deck and we will stay inside and talk through screen doors.

I wonder what will happen down the track when the govt rules mean that people are doing their 2nd, 3rd etc bout of 2 week self isolation because they've been 'in contact' with a confirmed case since their last bout of self isolation ended

Don't see that there is any choice but to suck it up. My daughter is in isolation because she has some flu like symptoms. But because she has not been OS, or in contact with a known carrier, is not being tested for Covid-19. The instruction is to remain isolated until symptoms go, or things get worse., and if the latter she will be tested.

Good thread as it’s really important to keep connected while you self isolate.
Maybe keeping a running online diary of day to day life ?

I don’t have any official reason to isolate, but I now realise that many of the things I actually did to fill my days in retirement involved group gatherings with lots of other people of a similar age, suddenly many of those avenues to interact have dried up

I am going through some of the wonderful Trip Reports that AFF members have written in the past and dreaming of the day I will be airborne again.

Were you on Carnival Splendor with us?
It’s all a bit crazy 😜 for us.
We are travelling all day today:
Hotel, train, airport, aircraft, airport, bus, station, train and taxi so we can self isolate when we get home! Our 14 days started last Sunday so we are clear after the 28th.

Yep, that's the cruise. You are right in the 28th being the final clearance date. However I said the 29th as it is a Sunday. My wife disagrees with the fact that it should start from Noumea. She believes it should start from the time we get home. Despite the cruise line saying there were no reported cases on the ship doesn't mean that there was no positive cases. I know the probability is low so we will come out fighting on the 30th March ( As well we don't want to risk anything with our first grandchild coming into the world) Sorry I missed you... this was out first Carnival cruise and I have to be blunt and say it will more than likely be our last. (not because of the virus or even the weather) We are Princess cruisers and we just found to many negartives. (for another thread maybe)

Quarantine here after our 8 days in Thailand. Good thing it was a fantastic holiday. I'm spending time cancelling appointments I made before leaving and trying to ignore how cranky my husband is getting after only two days!!

With all this time on peoples hands I think there will be an increase in the number of babies born in 9 months time! Government will no doubt pull the plug on the baby bonus then due to no money left in the till!
