The "I am in self-isolation" thread

I read that @JohnM .
One of my friends is on Silver Singles that his children put him online. He is a 1949 model like you and me. We have met a couple of the ladies.

As you know @cove, I went to high school with that friend of yours. A bit of a rascal. I can imagine him thriving on Silver Singles. 😜

I appreciate your periodic efforts in nudging me to SS, but right now I'm managing that aspect of my life nicely under my own steam. ;):)

There are some folks in Tassie calling for the Tassie border to be closed. Will you make it in time? 😀

Clang! Not exactly closed, but all entries into the state from Friday must do the 2 week isolation thing. We're treating you mainlanders as 'overseas' folk, just like we always do.

There's talk of Bruny island doing the same to 'mainland' Tasmanians ;) .

In my neighbourhood, on a long-ish cul-de-sac road, we are thinking of gating ourselves off - not for any virus reason, but we've always wanted to keep the rif-raff out, so here's our chance.

For those that are tired of watching the paint dry.... Zoo Cam!

We're live streaming our zoo so you can enjoy #AnimalsAtHome.
We’ve set up a few live stream cameras from Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo, so you can enjoy the zoo from anywhere.
See Melbourne Zoo's three baby Snow Leopard cubs as they play under mum's watchful eye in their den. Enjoy the penguins as they go about their busy day; look up high and spot the giraffes as they spend most of the day eating; and check out the lazy lions of Werribee Open Range Zoo as they lord over their very own Pride Rock.
Can’t see them? That’s because our animals live in areas that are much bigger than what a camera can capture and they have the choice to wander wherever they please. Check back in later to spot them.

Let's hope you don't live with an introvert as they won't be that happy to have you there. I enjoyed this article on lessons about self isolation by an introvert: This is the self-isolation survival kit introverts have sworn by for years

I'm not needing to self-isolate but, as an introvert, I can relate to that article. I'd have no trouble self-isolating. Kind of like being in 1A on an EK A380. 😜

As the Springsteen line in 'Better Days' goes:

But it's a sad man my friend who's livin' in his own skin
And can't stand the company

Mr Doubtfire Denali says that as I cancelled his Friday Big Breakfast with the Boys due to social distancing, he expects me to make his big breakfast inc toast (we dont own a toaster btw) at 9am tomorrow.

Thoughts and prayers for Mr Denali please

Living in Singapore we use a VPN service instead of subscribing to pay-TV. We use to mainly access ABC iview and SBS On Demand, which I agree has a huge range. Also we access British TV as well including BBC and Channel 4 - haven’t explored ITV. Between those 4 channels huge range of interesting content. We can also access foreign Netflix catalogs this way too ...
Dreadful place, Singapore; makes Townsville or Darwin sound chilly.

Yes, thoughts and prayers, jobs and growth - oh no hang on, that one won't work now.

Cool thread, I’m a club member! Where’s the T-shirt?

I think I was one of the first into AU compulsory quarantine, arriving SYD just before 7 on Monday morning. Hotel Room on Mon night in BNE was not inspiring, confined to room, and room service all arriving in take away things, as I greeted them in a mask. No glasses or crockery, not even for the welcome drink of house white.:(

Back at home in the boondocks of SEQ much nicer, the drought was gone, the sun shone, the grass had regrown, the dead trees had all come back to life (bar one). Day 1, unpack. Day 2, washing. Day 3, tomorrow, mowing. Day 4, consider turning booked travel into vouchers and make a shopping list.

Future challenges, how to get mail from PO Box, how to get groceries. But can’t solve every problem at once, or I’ll run out of things to do. Plenty booze, ok for frozen meals, rice and pasta, gonna run out of fruit, veg and fresh meat soooon.

silver lining, if we don’t go out, we don’t spend money. Looking forward to next month’s credit card bills :D

cheers skip
The boondocks, eh, skip? I've been looking for them in Brisbane since 1965, when Billiy Joe Royal sang about them; never found them sadly.
How inspiring do you expect a hotel room to be?

Self isolation doesn't scare this introvert (and I can do social if I need to) - so many books to read, hard drives full of things I want to watch (and I don't have netflix or anything like that) and plenty of food in the cupboard (without hoarding) - this also means I can be way more selective about invitations.

The only thing that I may be guilty of hoarding is the few dozen bottles of wine and the >30 bottles of spirits but we all have our weaknesses ;)

Starting day 3 of self quarantine. Mrscove seems to be a nice person...............Watched a bit of the footy and no knife attacks so all good.............

Higher chance of that happening if you were over in London. Should be safe in Perth.

Day 10 - Footy was a bit strange without the crowds (AFL, NRL was normal (like bugger all there anyway) and I have only around 600 steps around the house (WFH had me at desk most of day).

It's been a bit like weekends except I have stuff to do all day.

Although I do not miss the 80 minute each way commutes.

Seems the office management may introduce a Mandatory WFH policy from next Monday - at least I'll be able go for a walk or three one the 14 days are up. I have been eating though ... 🍜🍞

Yep - new Tassie rules require self isolation for interstate visitors... becasue I’m returning from overseas, need to self isolate anyway.
