The Master SQ Guide (Krisflyer, Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing)

Thanks for that. Still feel likr an absolute learner here 😁

If you look at revenue flights SIN-ATH, the SQ website prompts results SIN-MXP-ATH or SIN-VIE-MUC-ATH. You will need to search availability for the SQ sectors and the Star Alliance sectors separately and if you find availability, phone up to get the booking.

I have been upset with flying to Europe via SQ mainly due to the cost otherwise, it does provide decent coverage: SQ to Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, Turkey, Spain, UK, Denmark - so you have to hop and skip a bit to any 3rd destination. Book to the closest city (from this map - https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/us/plan-travel/destinations/where-we-fly/) and then take a train or el-cheapo local airline or drive around as you please!

Flying to VIE next Tuesday - eye watering bleeding $16250 in J compared to $9000 in Finn Air!

Edit: I tried MEL-MUC-MEL - the cost difference was $200, so didn't bother booking separately.

Just to clarify, I was not proposing that @SOPOOR should pay for revenue flights - just that you can use the revenue flight search to find valid routes that might be searched to feed into an award booking.

SQ does not fly to Athens - you will have to find a creative route to get there using Star Alliance partners.
I waa just having a look and its quite surprising (,or a miracle?)
There are flights for redemption under promo 100k down to 70k one way miles in premium economy for the first week of october this year ie 2 weeks time, but to france. I could just arrange a lcc trip to greece from there!

You could - or you could ask SQ whether there is an Aegean flight they could tack on (but probably not if it is a Spontaneous Getaway - I think they have to be specific routes on SQ).

Didnt even know you could do that. I would assume it would have to be over the phone, thanks for the suggestion

Yes - over the phone. You can check availability for that sector by clicking on the tab that says Star Alliance when you get zero results for SQ. There is wide open availability at 14,000 miles each way in Y which you should be able to combine with SQ flights on a Y+ redemption - but as I say, this will probably not work for a spontaneous getaway fare. Call and see - but hurry before the SQ flights go.

Amazing info thanks again!

heya again,

when i go into a redemption booking for 2x family members on a single booking , it says "enter your frequent flyer number for free wifi"

am I allowed to put my Kris number in for both to get it, or is that a big no no?

kind of feels dodgy, and I dont want to jeopardise anything

You will need a KrisFlyer number for each passenger. It’s easy to sign them up.

Looking at a similar redemption booking with SQ to Europe and tagging on a regional LH flight.

There is availability for SQ and availability for LH flight under star alliance tab, but cannot book it online. Calling the call centre all they could offer is 2 separate bookings, that do not make sense in our scenario as 12k KrisFlyer points +EUR120 in taxes per pax is not worth it for a 1 hr hop, especially when it’s 2 separate bookings and we are potentially not protected in a rare case of SQ delay plus have to arrange baggage to final destination (this I’m told shouldn’t be an issue).

Seems quite strange that one cannot book 2x SQ flights and 1x LH to final destination as a single Star alliance redemption. Tried HUACA but no dice. Should we persist until we end up with a different agent or is it them the rules?

I filled last year to combine SQ with other Star Alliance airlines in the same booking and HUACA didn’t work for me - but others say they have had success. I was told it’s only possible with SQ flights that have been released to partner airlines.

I was told it could only work if the SQ flights were savers when I tried last year.

Pre covid I used to book mixed SQ and * itineraries regularly, however now I have found it harder to get saver all the way and link up with a * flight due to release dates or limited saver on some routes

In our case both SQ flights and the LH tag are both Savers. Partner tried ringing this morning and had the same "not allowed" citing some Star alliance agreement to not book such flights as single booking. Frustrating, considering they are available as single booking as revenue fares, and also available as saver redemptions for all the legs separately, but not as a single star alliance award.

I also failed when my SQ flights were Savers. As I said before, the SQ flights apparently had to be discoverable as Star Alliance award availability.

For Australia to SIN you should look at BNE. Booking at the limit we have always been able to book 2 savers on the flight we want. We don’t mind the A350 on day time flights.
Another possibility which we have booked next year is DRW - SIN. 2 savers most days except school holidays but a 737.

As for Greece Scoot flies to Athens. Search Star Alliance awards and often 2 available on TK. Though we have now decided to use QR.

For those of you struggling to add a Saver StarAlliance intra-Europe flight to the end of a Saver SQ award, I may be able to offer some Help. Bear in mind that this advice is relevant to several of my bookings pre C19, but assuming the booking system hasn’t changed since then, it should still work.

Essentially, you must piece the itinerary in reverse. This is entirely counter intuitive for the Agent who’s never done it like this before, so you must hold the agent’s hand, explain why and what you’re trying to do very explicitly and that the intra-EU segment must be entered into their booking system first. Once you’ve locked in the final EU-segment, add the EU-SIN leg, and finally add the SIN-AU leg. If the Agent understands and actually does this reverse sequencing correctly in their system, the Star Alliance Saver award itinerary can be confirmed and ticketed.

The biggest challenge here is getting the Agent to understand why you’re doing it this way (because their booking system is flawed) and getting them to pull the inventory in reverse chronological order to overcome the issue. A lot of patience and persistence is required.
